Count Binface has been out bigging-up Clacton and drawing attention to its potential.

It’s a really positive campaign.

I don’t think he’ll win but I’d love it if he did. I think he’d be brilliant.

And if he doesn’t, I think other candidates could learn a lot from his approach.

Tice's constituency is a very rural area where transport is a problem, so it's not really surprising.
The main road into Boston has buses only every hour and the main Boston Pilgrim Hospital has a similar service from Lincoln.

Also DV and animal cruelty with Mr Punch - seems he's a real shady character. 😮

Maybe the people could ask their MP for help with those transport issues?

When Prescott was in charge of transport there was a lot of money thrown at rural services (all over the country, not just Lincs) but it turned out not to be cost effective.
Private companies couldn't make it pay either.

The money spent on subsidising rural transport was never supposed to be a profit making scheme, it was a social one and successful at that. It enabled, as such non-profit making schemes often do, people who were previously isolated to participate in work and leisure. Obviously the ring fenced money for the rural bus subsidy scheme was withdrawn under the coalition government who knew the cost of everything and the value of nothing.

So, a little more nuanced than your version of money being thrown around and still no profit!

@ClarkeandNewman I can remember it meant we got 6 buses each way between Skegness and Lincoln on a Sunday instead of 3, hardly 'ripping up trees'.
They were not used much, so so much for people who were previously isolated to participate in work and leisure.
No-one wanted to go cauli-cutting or digging tates in the boondocks on a Sunday.
Two people used them to go to Skeggy on a Sunday to play bingo

That depends on how you measure "sucessful".
Taking 2 regular old dears to the bingo and back on a Sunday in a double-decker isn't the height of efficiecy IMO.

Some people did use it for a day out to Skeggy in the summer, but in the winter it was empty. Even the aforementioned ladies didn't risk it.

Do you think public transport is adequate in the UK, outside large towns and cities? Are not "old dears" as entitled as anyone else to be able to travel around and socialise?

'No' and 'yes' but someone has to subside this laudable aim.

Rural transport demands in seaside and farming areas is seasonal and needs to be flexible.

I wouldn't say it was laudable. I'd say it was essential and inevitable, given climate change. Maybe it's time to stop thinking of everything in terms of balance sheets.
