Why the hell do people kill spiders ! Just put them outside ffs

Grown adults being so disparaging of a recognised phobia is just so embarrassingly pathetic.

Putting an indoor spider outside will most likely end with it dying. Just leave them alone.

There is a little jumping spider who keeps creeping back into my bathroom every time I put her out of the window. We are quite friendly now and she climbs on to the removing cardboard without me having to chase her around the shelf. But I have told her that if she doesn’t move lodgings of her own accord I will have to carry her downstairs and put her in the garden.

Oh all the people on here poo pooing a genuine phobia give your heads a wobble! Is there definitely something you’re not really genuinely afraid of that might seem a bit silly to others?

Failing that the long hose on the Hoover, shoes on incase it comes near your feet. Honestly though it’s probably hiding now which is why I have a policy of not letting them out of my sight until ive dealt with it!

I totally understand your fear, I am the same. I cannot deal with huge ones but have managed to make myself put the smaller ones out. Get yourself a 2m long ostrich feather duster from Amazon. That way you can stay well away from them while rotating the feathers to grab it and then flick the pole outside and it’ll fall off. It doesn’t hurt them at least. If you have to you can just throw the entire duster outside until someone can help you to flick it to make sure it’s gone.

Some people are just insanely scared of multi legged insects. Many years ago I was staying with friends in Morocco (1970s) when a big daddy-long-legs type insect got stuck in the back combing of my friends hair. She went hysterical. Her husband had to hold her in a bear hug while I fished out the insect and let it go. It must be very difficult living in tropical countries if you are scared of harmless flying insects.

Cats are great, I occasionally see my two huddled together and I know they've found a spider.

Failing that Henry the Hoover has a long enough tube that I can stand far enough away.

Living on my own means I have to get rid of them myself, at least my panic attacks have gone down slightly but I still end up all cold and clammy and hyperventilating, occasionally rocking backwards and forwards for 15 minutes afterwards if it's a real beast.

I sympathise , I’d just go in armed with the hoover attachment and suck it up. Keep the hoover on for a bit after to make sure it’s a gonner

Vote Reform if you want your living room back. Vote Restore if you also want to kill the spider.

If you put the place on rightmove just don't photo the spider room....

Why are some of you being so mean ? I thought everyone was scared of something . I am TERRIFIED of rats . And I mean terrified. Even typing the word makes my skin crawl.
So just because YOU are not afraid of spiders does not mean that others feel the same . So immature and egocentric not to be able to understand that others feel and see things differently to you . It's playground behaviour .

What is huge? Spider from Home Alone, ring the bravest person you know. Large normal spider class and cardboard and take a deep breath and scream as much as you need to!!

I’m spider phobic but had to get used to it as I find myself living alone and I can do it now with a few hot sweats and a lot of swearing. Kindly, it could be anywhere now, they are not trained to use doors. I’d either spray the skirtings with Raid that will kill it on contact or just wait for it to reappear and then hoover it up. Longer term you need a spider catcher device.

Generally, they aren't. Arachnophobia (and similar reactions to insects, etc) are a feature of comfortable, Western lives.

True, I’m not at all bothered by spiders but moths and to a lesser extent butterflies send me freaky, albeit maybe less so since being a parent. I know where the phobia comes from and it is about the dust on their wings getting onto me. Even writing that makes me feel sick.
Why you have a phobia and to what degree is an entirely person thing and shouldn’t be mocked or belittled. Feel lucky you’re not suffering.

Aww, @lightclock , I get it. I used to be scared of catching spiders but, when she was little, my niece was even more scared of them than I was. Being the adult, I tried to show her they were harmless by catching them with a glass and bit of card and releasing them outside (mainly to stop the hysterics and screaming). I've worked my way up from catching small spiders to catching big ones. Someone once told me it was unlucky to kill a spider, not that I'd want to kill one anyway.

I see fewer spiders since getting a cat - and thanks to him I'm fairly adept at catching and releasing the 'gifts' he used to bring me (he no longer hunts).

DN is now 36 and still screams when she sees a spider. I bought her one of these types of plug one Christmas and she said it seemed to work -

This is what I do. I use the long attachment and, if possible, get a child to press the button on the hoover when I’m within range, so I just concentrate on the spider, not on technical doings.

I agree, it’s such a bloody horrible phobia. I’m leaving the skinny spiders around at the moment because they eat the big ones. Somehow I’m not very scared of those. If you’re not phobic and love spiders, then you really can’t be helpful to somebody who is paralysed with fear!
