I saw a mum casually sitting down while her child of about 5 or 6 scootered up and down the platform. Going quite fast as well. AIBU to think this is stupid? I really don't understand it.

No, ITA with you OP! Tube platforms can fill up very quickly.

We were in Birmingham city centre on Monday - the pedestrianised part. There were no end of people on scooters, weaving in and out of pedestrians. We wished the police would come and sort them out!

Although you'd think falling under a tube train would be quick, it's less so if you get wrapped around the wheels. Or so I am told.

AFAIK, no-one is allowed to ride a scooter on the platforms (nor up and down the train, which I witnessed a small child doing once). A shame there aren't more station staff to stop it happening.

Wonder if you were at same mainline station as me , for the first time ever I heard a public announcement about children not being allowed on bikes and scooters inside the station.
To be fair I thought that was a given .. maybe not !

The London Underground is brilliant for scooting. So many smooth tunnels and walkways. If they stopped the trains running and switched off the electricity, it could be the ultimate tourist skatepark.

The staff should have come down to issue words of advice.
ie pack it in.
They should be monitoring via cameras.
For all sorts of things.
But there are so few of them now.
I think. Hope. I would have pressed the information point to request staff attendance.

I recently drove behind a boy on an electric scooter for half a mile or so. It was in a town and he was riding on the main road doing 30 mph (that was the speed limit and it’s what I was doing).

He was perhaps 13 or 14 and wearing no helmet or protective clothing - just shorts and a tee shirt. I hate to think what would have happened to him if he’d come off.

Fucking hell. What if he tripped and fell on the tracks or bumped into someone who fell on the tracks? Honestly some people are totally moronic and oblivious.

Almost certainly, you would have got a gob-full. I've had couple in similar circumstances but I would rather that than wonder if I could have made a difference.

Absolutely. When I stopped the car I phoned my daughter, who is a secondary teacher, to ask whether they cover that sort of thing in PSHE.

Apparently they do, but they are still aware that pupils put themselves in danger in that way.

I saw a 6 or 7 year old with roller skates on in a rush hour tube train on the other day, with her father. Someone gave her a seat. When they got off she rolled along the carriage, her father lifted her off then she roller skated along the platform. Idiocy.

This is lunacy. I’m quite relaxed about other people’s kids and their antics in general but this is bloody stupidly dangerous 😩
I do dislike scooters in most settings though! I wish they would all zip off together down a cliff (not with anyone on them of course!).

They're enough of a menace on pavements in town centres, scooting (scootering?) on a rail or tube platform is downright bloody stupid.
