AIBU to think an Edinburgh festival show about Meredith Kercher's murder should be stopped?

VivienneDelacroix · 06/08/2026 01:04

Aibu to think that this show at the Edinburgh Festival should be cancelled? It mocks the circumstances around the murder of Meredith Kercher and serves it up as entertainment.

Not only is it horribly disrespectful of Meredith's family, but it also belittles the issue of violence against girls and women.

Meredith's siblings are calling for it to be pulled from the festival. There is also a petition calling for it to be stopped.

The misogyny on this thread is WILD.

No, I will absolutely not be signing that petition.

Amanda Knox is entitled to tell her personal story.

I can get my head around Meredith's family reacting as they have, but shame on anyone else who signs that petition.

you don’t understand why her family might be upset about this?!

they walk among us!

That post literally says ‘I can get my head around Meredith’s family reacting as they have’. Where does she say she doesn’t understand why they’re upset?

Amanda Knox doesn't care about Meredith's family at all - she wouldn't have made this if she had any compassion for the pain they are going through.

This is all about Amanda. She has said she did this for her daughter to highlight violence against women. She could have made this in a general way but no, she has insensitively dragged Meredith's murder into it.

Just watched the interview with her on the Channel 5 news. She is prickly, unlikeable and irritated by the criticism she has upset the Kercher family. Her insensitivity is palpable.

Edited

I think she’s entitled to talk about her experience & she has done so a number of times so I agree with the above.

NeartoNewquay · 06/08/2026 18:42

Well I've signed the petition. You have to wonder why she wants to keep herself in the spotlight so much. She absolutely is trying to make herself the victim and shows a disgusting lack of empathy for Meredith's siblings.

Her family have reacted in the way they have because they are upset about the show. How else should they express their upset in a way that poster can get their head around it?!

I’m trying to say this without being rude, but do you know the difference between ‘can’ and ‘can’t’? The poster said ‘I can get my head around them reacting as they have’, not that they can’t.

Talk about it, yes. But to blatantly monetise a young woman’s murder through books and a ‘comedy’ show? Definitely not. Knox loves the attention and the money.

The court didn’t just find her ‘not guilty’, they declared her to be ‘innocent’. She was entirely exonerated.

loveagift · 06/08/2026 18:49

@YoQuieroVinoOops! I think this has confirmed I need glasses because I read that wrong and small text has been looking a tad blurry!

Im still confused why people who sign the petition should feel ashamed though?

MercedesBlue11 · 06/08/2026 18:53

Nope- AK was definitely involved in the murder - if you remember the original trial and the evidence against her. However she has a Netflix doc and more which skews public opinions toward her in a positive way.

I literally said that I can get my head around (understand) the family's reaction. No idea what your issue is.

No, she wasn’t. I haven’t seen the Netflix documentary, but I have seen the judgement of the court in which they entirely clear her, declare her to be innocent and state that there is absolutely no evidence that she committed the murder.

Why are you determined to blame an innocent woman for this crime?

She was not involved.

@11AndCountingI read it wrong & apologise but why should people who sign be ashamed?

The internet contains people who really really liked the idea of a pretty, sex crazed orgy murderess, if you know what I mean. Maybe he/she/it is one of those.

Tbh her unlikeable nature is kind of thr point. It's what got her arrested in the first place, that and having a sex life.

MercedesBlue11 · 06/08/2026 18:00

I remember when Meredith was killed. It was awful. She's not here to talk. The pretty American white girl was always going go get off.
The black guy however..
AK can spin any story she wants. Meredith doesn't have a voice. Her poor family are having to go through the trauma of having that nasty girl who was definitely involved somehow in her death make money.
It sickens me that AK is making a show out of this- she has not a good bone in her.

The black guy did it!

And the white American girl got locked up for years for something she didn't do.

"Rather than merely declaring that there were errors in the earlier court cases or that there was not enough evidence to convict, the court ruled that Knox and Sollecito were innocent of involvement in the murder"

She was completely exonerated of the crime.

AsHot · 06/08/2026 19:26

She’s unlikeable, self-obsessed and has zero class - but then she’s American so that’s par for the course.

Nice bit of nationalistic prejudice there. @MNHQ is that allowed?

@MojoMoon

I doubt anyone is expecting the government to step in and shut down the show, but free speech works both ways. We equally are free to express our disgust and disapproval over the show and a petition is a very good way to do that. Free speech doesn’t mean objectors have to stay silent out of respect for the offensive.

Well said.

And the internet is so large that no matter how bizarre and incorrect your belief is, there will be a group that agree with you.

I mean, assuming this is true, out the company on social media. This is so far removed from the way they are meant to behave.

DP's friend did. And does every time one of them gets in touch after the usual ignoring and blocking doesn't make them go away.

Nobody cares.

She literally says ‘People can say things that make others unhappy. It's a broad church - there are things that make me unhappy that you won't care about and vice versa’
