School skirts with pockets

Am I missing something here? Nowhere, I mean nowhere, can I find traditional grey school skirts with pockets. Proper ones, in the seam, on the sides, not decorative ones at the front.

Morrisons had them last year but I've been in this year and they're the same as everywhere else. Pocketless!

Hey! I’m just wondering if you’ve managed to find any skirts with pockets at all? I’m on the same mission!

Out of interest, why would a child need pockets? I can’t think of anything, except maybe a tissue, that a child would need constant access to.

@ViaRia01 It’s the latest fad. You see it all the time on the style threads. Plus there are even bridal gowns with pockets! It’s totally silly.

Men would never succumb to such a silly frivilous fad as putting their keys and phone in a pocket to save lugging a bulkier handbag!

If secondary school, OPs dd might want to carry her phone in her pocket instead of her bag, or she might have an inhaler she needs quick access too. My dd has to take medication prophylactically, it is much easier for her to have it in her pocket than in her bag, which she has managed to lose before now!

Most schools wouldnt allow phones in pockets anyway.

Tissues are pretty useful and a very good reason for having pockets! Kids get snotty...

A tampon on or pad so they can quickly go without rooting around in their bag.

Pockets ruin the lines of skirts. That’s what bags are for.

Perhaps a child cares more about practicality than whether her 'line' is ruined. What bullshit, do you think boys have to care about whether having stuff in their trouser pockets affects the way their hips look??? From how young an age do you want it hammered into girls that how they look is the key priority over comfort and practicality?

@JC89 yes true, I was just genuinely curious as OP is on a real
mission to find pockets and I wouldn’t have thought it essential (even for the snottiest kid!) to have a tissue in a pocket at all times. So yes, pockets are handy for tissues but does it really matter if the skirt doesn’t have one. That was what I meant anyway. But as PP hace pointed out they do become rather more useful for secondary school so that would make more sense to me

No one questions why boys’ trousers have pockets. Do they need more tissues?

Love skirts and dresses with pockets myself! My dcs are both older, but their secondary school pleated skirts had one hidden pocket sewn into the seam near the side zip. Thought that was brilliant! (But the skirts cost £35+, so meh.)

@BogRollBOGOF And how silly do they look. Oh wait, they get their wives and girlfriends to carry their stuff. Girls with bulging pockets look as bad as boys stuffing things into them. Boys take bags to school too!

Kids who have diabetes have access to their phones so they can monitor their blood sugar if they have a pump.
To the pp who said kids wouldn’t be allowed medication….you are wrong, some schools like DD’s absolutely allow her to carry her EpiPen. She has it on her every waking hour (you really think every classroom has an EpiPen available? If a kid goes into anaphylactic shock, you don’t piss around trying to locate the person who has the key to the first aid room ffs, it’s not a primary school where everything is within shouting distance!) she also has her inhaler on her, and 1 x antihistamine. I’m not getting into the rest of her medical history. Suffice to say there will be kids in some secondary schools who have to carry medication on their person / in their bag. A pocket to carry your inhaler in, is very useful.

If girls just wore trousers for Heaven’s sake, a lot of silly nonsense as well as practical worries would be eliminated. .
