AIBU to think parents chasing each other round Morrisons is odd?

I just saw a 30-something couple chasing each other around Morrisons whilst their young kids stood watching and giggling. AIBU to think this is mad?

I do think there should be certain hours on certain days of the week where supermarkets should not allow families or children so that adults who just want to do their shopping in quiet efficiency can go there and get in and out as soon as possible. There should also be special rules about no stopping and blocking shelves or aisles and inconveniencing other shoppers.

Many mners are shocked at the existence of children in most locations, restaurants, cinemas, museums, parks…. Often the same posters who also go on about the failure of parents today for using screens! 😆

It’s a bit daft, @HelloDenise, but as long as they aren’t ploughing into other people, I don’t think it’s a big problem - nothing wrong with an occasional bit of fun.

True. I wonder where children should exist. I do get it that there are inappropriate places and I’d not take a toddler to a high-end restaurant or theatre out of consideration for others, but I’ll also definitely not book a nanny to do my supermarket shopping. 🤣

My view on most stuff like this is live and let live as long as you're not negatively impacting others... but I can't imagine that two adults chasing each other around a supermarket isn't at least a bit inconvenient for other people who are just trying to get the shopping done.

If it's quiet then I guess it makes no difference, as long as they're not knocking things off the shelves and annoying people.

Really though, just go to a park.

Imagine needing to pop to the shop to pick something up with a child in tow, only to find that you're not allowed in and have to come back in 2 hours when it's open to kids.

Not all children misbehave in supermarkets. Most do not.

Adults who want to do their shopping in quiet efficiency can go at a less busy time or do so online at home.

It's both odd and annoying self absorbed twattish behaviour. Not a single thought was had about anyone else in the supermarket.

Fuck me, how pathetic and attention seeking! And no, I’m not a misery or a ‘fun sponge’. It smacks of, ‘Oh look at us, aren’t we such cool, funny parents!’ No, you’re ridiculous. Go to a park if you want to act like a child.
Thankfully, I’ve never seen anything like this in any supermarket near me and no, I’m not from a hugely affluent area and I hardly ever go into the Waitrose in my town. Bloody pathetic.

Did you miss the part I quoted about the child possibly having a melt down? Why is it 'bonkers' to avoid doing something that might cause a child to be distressed?

Ah, I wish my late DH was still here.. we were always play-falling-out at the other wandering off & getting temporarily lost in Morrisons.. & might even have a cheeky snog-by-the-freezers. We were in our mid-late forties. Shocking!

Because you can’t avoid everything that ‘possibly’ causes a toddler to have a meltdown. I’m not talking about neurodiverse children that find particular situations stressful, just normal toddlers. Mine has a meltdown in the supermarket one day, in the park the next day, and in our kitchen the third day because he suddenly decides that he wanted his banana cut differently than yesterday. There’s no avoiding it, it’s normal behaviour of a 2-year-old.

Sorry but who cares?! I dance around supermarkets with my son, I’ve even done it with a friend just for shits and gigs and I do not mind shopping with my partner we always have fun in our 40s. I think you’re just ranting for rantings sake.

mIf you want to chase your spouse to entertain your child then a park it is, not a supermarket as that is immature, actually I wouldn’t let kids run around as they could knock someone over and adults are a lot more heavier and slower to stop.
