AIBU to think parents chasing each other round Morrisons is odd?

I just saw a 30-something couple chasing each other around Morrisons whilst their young kids stood watching and giggling. AIBU to think this is mad?

Team supermarket chase/tig/hide and seek/peekaboo.

It's bad enough when you have to dodge children charging around in a shop. I don't want to have to look out for full grown adults too. A supermarket isn't a bloody playground.

All fun and games till someone gets hurt.

Disturbia81 · 02/08/2026 01:15

God let people have fun in this world. Surely the only people who get bothered have underlying bitterness or jealousy issues.
When you’re with the right person, even shopping is fun. Choose products together, plan stuff, take the piss out of funny names of things etc

Or disabilities that being knocked over wouldn't have a great outcome.
Osteoarthritis for one that's a right laugh.

Kokonimater · 02/08/2026 01:54

I think that’s lovely. Having fun and making their kids laugh.
lighten up op

Well said. Boy there are some miserable people in the world , especially on MN.

I would have laughed and enjoyed the sight of people having a bit of fun.

Thepossibility · 02/08/2026 04:12

Unless they were bashing into people this would make me smile. A family being happy is a nice thing. There's enough doom in this world, small silly things make life brighter. I've been known to have a little dance to the music in the supermarket to make DH or the kids laugh.
Sue me.

How dare you dance in a supermarket! 😉

A supermarket should be treated with reverence like a cathedral. Best to speak in whispers with a serious, furrowed look on your face and walk like a robot.

How dare anyone have an iota of fun. Silliness should be banned. Security needs to drag these reprobates out. 😂

glaciercherry · 02/08/2026 04:40

That’s cute. Nice to see people still having fun as adults

JapanesePotWeed · 02/08/2026 04:40

Probably just the parents who raise those obnoxious teenage fuckwits who charge around supermarkets and pull stock off the shelves, play football with loaves of bread, shake and throw fizzy drinks, do races in shopping trolleys, throw toilet rolls at customers... VERY funny if you were to ask 🙄

Where on earth do you live? I visit my local supermarket several times a week and have literally NEVER seen any of those things happen.

I work in a large supermarket in a City Centre.
The behaviour I see day-in, day-out is appalling.
Something like the OP describes could really anger or upset me as it can make my day harder than it already is. People like that show a complete disregard for their surroundings and staff who have to work around their 'hilarious' antics.
I've hurt my back with how many times in a busy Saturday shift I have to body-brake a rolling cage with heavy load just to allow some entitled prick to have their laaarf

I wish I could use a Taser. Just for a laugh

Yes I see now how I have sinned. I also happen to bring DH and/or kids to the supermarket on occasion when it happens we are out together and need to purchase food which is apparently also absolutely not on. Silent, solo marching through the aisles only. No smiling obviously, that's performative.

sashh · 02/08/2026 06:20

OP

It could be worse, I'm in the Midlands, so here the race is combined with cheese rolling.

I think it’s really odd when a couple go round a supermarket together (with or without children)

I mean, it’s a chore. Surely just one of you does it whilst the other does something equally domestically useful elsewhere.

I've seen people shopping with a parent, assisting elderly relatives, going with a friend etc.

Is it only romantic couples that aren't allowed to shop together?

Agree.
Imagine if loads of adults were doing that with their kids in the supermarkets. Shopping would be hellish! At least there’s the option of online shopping.

We end up together as a couple of we happen to pop in on our way back from somewhere impromptu/not planned or if on a self catering holiday

That's so dramatic! Because someone thinks it's odd to behave like that in a supermarket doesn't mean they're bitter and twisted and hate life and people for Christ's sake!!!!!

Bore off. The world is full of misery and crap, two loving parents having a laugh with their kids is exactly what I wanna see.

We do the weekly shop together every week, family of 3 with one small child. Unless one of us is busy. It takes us 30 mins and we sometimes to it on the way back from doing something else like a sunday walk or day out.

Sometimes we just all go together and do only that, we enjoy it together. It’s not a chore to gather food that we will cook with and enjoy in the week, it’s a privilege.

Unknownpublisher · 02/08/2026 08:48

Well you really wouldn't have liked it when my friend and I decided to have a trolley race in Morrisons.
It was 9pm though and we were tipsy, the staff seemed amused and asked for our ID. We're in our 50's 😂

I’m sure they aren’t going to rugby tackle you in the tinned veg aisle.

But if they didn't chase each other around the supermarket, how would we all know what fun people they are?

This. ⬆️

Why do people always have to imagine a different scenario, it was one couple, not loads. Not likely to be an outbreak of couple chasing across uk supermarkets.

HelloDenise · 02/08/2026 09:00

I remember once seeing a little girl doing cartwheels in the aisle at Aldi. And kids on scooters in a supermarket.
