Not to want to wash my hair over a sink with a bloody sieve?!

Ok first world problems, but DH, DS, DD and I are staying with my elderly aunt and uncle. They have a massive house with modern bathrooms but DA had just told me that I cannot wash my shoulder length hair in the shower as it will block the drains, “But it’s ok as you can wash it over the sink and catch all the hair in a sieve”! FFS!!!

If I try to do this the water will go everywhere (the basin is tiny), the shampoo and conditioner will go in my eyes if I bend forward, and if I try to kneel backwards it will give me severe neck pain (and water everywhere again).

I normally wash my hair every three days which should have been last night, and we don’t go home until tomorrow. And we’re in the middle of nowhere without a car, though I’m going to have to insist on a diversion on our day trip to buy some dry shampoo.

I’m really annoyed she didn’t tell me this before hand as at least I could have washed my hair just before coming. And what about my 11 year old who has really long thick hair? Mercifully she’s not due to wash hair until tomorrow, but if it had needed washing sooner we’d be stuffed.

I agree it's a mad rule.but in assume she is elderly and set in her ways. And maybe she has had problems with a blocked drains
Its only a day just leave your hair until you get home it will be fine.
I always wash my hair before I go away as I hate washing my hair when I'm in someone else's house. I just accept that my hair might not look it's best but it's not the end of the world.

What a weird and unfriendly thing to say to someone who stays with you. I don’t think you should police guests bathroom use and if you’re that precious then perhaps don’t have people to stay! My long, thick hair comes out a lot in the shower, I wonder if I have blocked the drains of people I have stayed with? I do try to clean out the plug after showering as I know this but some will have gone down I’m sure. And yes our drain blocks sometimes because of this. Some drain unblocker down and it’s fine.

Old people often get fixated on stupid rules to keep their environment working.
Don't stay,tell her her suggestion is not practical so you can't stay- what on earth is wrong with a strainer over the plughole?
the alternative is go to a gym or similar.
I regularly visited my late Mum, but I couldn't shower, drink red wine or take my coffee into my bedroom because she was paranoid about stains. I went less often and only for 3-4 days at a time.

Sorry, OP but this made me lol. It’s batshit. I echo others comments, just wash your hair in the shower and remove any hair from the plug.

She’s elderly and is worried about her drains. You’ll have gone and she’s thinking she’ll be left with blocked drains and overflowing sinks. Even though you think it’s batshit which it is she’s worried so just don’t wash your hair. You’re leaving tomorrow will one day matter ?

I'd head into the shower with a sieve and then just wash hair normally. She'll never know!

I’d just say okay no problem, I’ll wash it before the shower and then go into the bathroom, lock the door, run the sink tap for a bit and then wash it in the shower as normal. I’d just make sure to clear the plughole afterwards.

I would just wash it in the shower. She won’t know

Option 1.Take a sieve to wash your hair in sink. Make sure your aunt sees this. Put sieve over shower drain. Wash hair as normal in shower. Dispose of any stray hairs collected in sieve. Job done.
Option 2. Make a detour and buy dry shampoo.
Option 3. Leave your hair an extra day without washing.

I don't really know why you would actually follow this rule. Just say yes of course but then carry on as normal.

Batshit rules I agree but, you’re going home tomorrow. You and your dd will survive having slightly greasy hair for a day. Just leave it and make a mental note for next time to wash before you set off and take dry shampoo. If all else is going well with the stay then this really isn’t worth creating drama over!

How is she going to know how you washed your hair? Just be meticulous in lifting any hair out of the drain.

I wonder if you've stayed before and the shower drain blocked and long hairs were removed when it was unblocked?

All the solutions about catching your hair and cleaning the drain are totally workable..It's not a pleasant job to leave someone else

put the sieve in the showers plug hole then the hair would catch around it then put any hair in the sieve ? or just make out washed hair with sieve and showerd rest of you ? @RulesControlTheFun

Put the sieve over the shower drain? There should be a filter in the shower drain anyway that you could clean after you shower.

It does sou d a bit mad but as a PP me tioned, if you or a similar haired person has stayed and previously blocked the drain, she doesn't want a repeat. Also, if you're.not going anywhere why does it matter so much. Seems a bit mad also to have such a strict hair washing schedule for you and dd
