To ask what age you started cosmetic procedures?

If you have botox, fillers, have had surgical procedures, threads etc.
I'm 35 and have been having crows' feet Botox once or twice a year for a few years, and I've had nasolabial fold filler twice. This seems to be ok for now, I'm trying to hold off on anything else for as long as possible due to cost and not wanting too much maintenance and upkeep with it all.
Eventually I'm sure I'll start to need more though, I know I'm still young and I'm using spf 50 and retinol currently.

So just wondered what sort of age you noticed the biggest changes and started anti ageing treatments? Please no judgement, I know it isn't for everyone.

It's also going to discriminate against lower income women, who genuinely can't afford these sort of cosmetic procedures. They will stand out as "ageing" and it won't go well for them.

That’s true

Selfseedpoppies · 01/08/2026 14:10

Never and I never will (I'm 48) It makes me very sad to think young women feel such pressure to look perfect they spend money on injecting chemicals into themselves.

Aging is a blessing to be embraced.

Tbf tattoos are very expensive too and you see a wide variety of people with them, often those on lower income such as retail or care providers. There is clearly a way to budget for aesthetic procedures.

This in a nutshell.

You are saying they NEED it ( your opinion not fact ) maybe they just WANT it for a myriad of reasons. I think it's up to individuals to do what they want. I don't care if someone chooses not to dye their hair, not to wear make up , be wrinkled , have bad teeth , not to whatever and there is no way I would mock them or suggest they are somehow deficient in character because of their choice.

It's very odd that the people who decry certain things others do because of misogyny, feminism blah blah but the SAME people try to tell other women what to do and mock them if they don't. That really doesn't make sense.

I started Botox around 35 on my 11s. They had always annoyed me! It would last ages on me as I’d instruct the Dr to ‘freeze’.

I’m 48 now and have Botox all over my forehead. I just love the smooth look. Make up sits great. Lasts about 3 months. Have bits of high-grade filler dotted around. My Dr is a dermatologist so he knows what he’s doing so I just leave him to it. Cost £1500 a year.

TBH I’ve got a rounded face, large eyes, naturally full lips, oily skin, and I’m not skinny - size 12. These things all contribute to a more youthful look even without the Botox and fillers.

Aged 36-40 I didn’t look good at all because life was hitting me hard.

I’ve always kept my face out of the sun too and off the beds. Never used anti ageing creams due to oily skin. Absolute love Korean products so good for me and my oily skin lol! At last oily skin is ‘the look’ 😂

I don’t have the fake look - have friends that do and strongly recommend go easy as their skin has been damaged by stretching with fillers. That look is achieved by cheap fillers and they’re in every month .

Something of a sweeping statement about the lower waged.

I've looked up the cost of these eyelid lifts, fillers and repeat Botox and you definitely need a lot of money.

There is a recent thread here about Botox where the people into Botox were extremely vocal about why they think aging naturally is a bad thing. Corblimeygvnr and others are very very into Botox.

What strange behaviour to go and stalk on other threads. Are you saying that person is me? Similar name?

CarbonArtist · 01/08/2026 14:19

I am 43. I have been having Botox since I was 35 and lip filler since I was 40. Last year I had cryotherapy and IPL to remove pigmentation, which I rate highly. This year I have had profhilo and HIFU.

I do agree with previous posters who have pointed out the negative implications of these procedures in terms of ageism, sexism and classism. I do them because - frankly - I want to look young and hot for as long as possible. Shallow I know, and probably a sign that all is not well in my life but there it is.

Not at all.

Surely that's the same for everything ? Eg hair - can cost a fortune. Clothes could be something else - cheap clothes v expensive. Where does it stop?

False equivalency.
This isn't about looking smart - it's about not ageing.

Do women from other countries obsess about SPF 50 as much as the English on MN? I’d never heard so much about it until I moved to England and started reading MN.

You've never heard about Australians and their sun care regimen ?

Well I think hair is very pertinent to an ageing look. There's endless threads on grey hair, should I shouldn't I etc.

ByRoseBiscuit · 01/08/2026 14:26

I’m early 40s and won’t ever have anything like this done, I just don’t care enough what my face looks like and prefer not to muck around with things that could potentially then look even worse later on

Gagagardener · 01/08/2026 14:27

I'm 77, never had any. Seldom wear makeup. My offspring and their children love me. I have friends who enjoy my company. I feel well respected. Don't think I need it now. Used to think about it about 3 decades ago, but I don't think not having had any has spoiled my life. @Ihavebingowings1 What else could you do with the money?

corblimeymlud · 01/08/2026 14:27

Muffsies · 01/08/2026 12:36

So you can conclude the answer is "no" then, since the measurable benefits of HRT to bone, muscle and congnitive health alone are far in excess of the very reduced risks.

Are you addressing me or the other poster ?

CarbonArtist · 01/08/2026 14:28

Having had lots of these procedures and seen the results on other women as well as myself, I don’t think they work to make you look significantly younger. They take off about 5 years, maximum. Things that work are having a baby face, good posture, youthful styling, being slim and fit. Injectables etc just make you look a bit more coherent, like you take care of yourself.

sidneytweeney · 01/08/2026 14:30

I started Botox and skin boosters at 29. I’m 48 now and look 35- people are genuinely shocked when they find out my real age. The trick is to start before the ageing does 💕

PowerhouseOfTheCell · 01/08/2026 14:30

Started lip fillers at 19, got my boobs done at 26 (one was an A cup and the other a C cup), and I'm in my late 20s and have recently started botox

HostaCentral · 01/08/2026 14:30

Never, am 60. I feel sad that thirty something's feel the need tbh. I feel like a vanishing breed, no expensive creams, no harsh retinols, don't wear make up, sit in the sun. The only thing I use is an SPF15 face cream in the winter, SPF30 in the summer.

The only "beauty" treatments I get are skin tag and keratosis removal because they annoy me.

Lifelover16 · 01/08/2026 14:32

Late 40s early 50s I had some Botox to soften glabellar lines and marionette lines. I was 57 when I last had some prior to a big event, and I looked fresher and less tired in the photos. I was pleased with the result.
I’m 67 now and have a chronic illness and I look much older, and quite haggard. I don’t think Botox or fillers would help any more.

TheBlueKoala · 01/08/2026 14:33

I'm 47 and have never done anything. I think it looks quite ridiculous tbh. It's so obvious and just show how insecure you are about aging. I prefer to age gracefully.

Ok. Let me be clear.
This thread is about invasive and surgical cosmetic procedures.
Having your hair done does not fall into this category 🙄

The problem is no one thinks they have the fake look, when really they do. Having a smooth forehead is not the natural look, even for people in their 20s. People who use Botox etc are just being brainwashed for money. My mum in her early 80s has never used it and looks younger than people in their early 60s who use it all the time. In time regular use ruins your looks, forever.

Vast generalisation based on your own limited opinion.
