For those who consider September 1st as their New Years Day - what do you want to achieve in the final month of August? 🍂🎃❄️🎄🎆

The end of the summer will soon be upon us ladies and gents!

I want August to be a really good month. I want to be in a good place going into September, able to enjoy my home in the run up to Christmas!

I want autistic dd to be in a routine, ready to start her new school. I want dcat to be happy, as currently she hates the heat.

I want to be firmly on my weight loss journey.

You? 💕

Enjoy the long hot summer into September ideally

Boreded · 30/07/2026 16:34

I have never thought about this before. But…

  1. I want to have hit my 50 weight loss goal before my holiday (30th August)
  2. I want my son to have been offered a degree level apprenticeship OR failing that, him be ready to for Uni and the hard work that comes with that
  3. I want to have started being more spontaneous. I don’t leave the house often enough, and have become old before my time. I need to go to the pub, cinema, seaside, all on a whim, rather than having to have it planned a week in advance.

Love this, especially no. 3

Nothing I do is spontaneous! Is ds your youngest? Now he is 18, this kind of life is possible!

Heres hoping numbers 1 and 2 work out for you

I'm starting a new job on 1st September after redundancy and frankly a shitty year.

I am planning a wardrobe cull and filling any gaps as my new job requires a bit more face to face meeting time so need to smarten up a bit.

I am also planning an overhaul of my book cases. Loads of unread books that I need to decide whether to keep and I fancy a rejig of my non fiction books.

I want to start planning our next big holiday which is a US road trip in 2027 for a big anniversary.

We are working with a financial adviser because for the first time in my life I will have an amount of money I don't know how to mange to full effect so looking forward to having a financial plan,

I want to see my friends more. Like @Boreded I spend too much time thinking about doing fun stuff and not actually doing it.

I've never been a 1st September reset type but I am excited for it this year. I will still enjoy the summer for as long as it lasts though. No pumpkin spiced lattes or autumn colours allowed!

OriginalUsername2 · 30/07/2026 16:57

For me I start working on goals in September. Summer is my most unproductive time, it’s coping season for me 😆Too hot to exercise or diet, too much going on outside to concentrate on creative projects. What I can do is read all the books on my pile.

BiteSizedLife · 30/07/2026 17:06

Yes! I get this feeling. La rentrée I call it as per the French even though I have been out of school for decades .

In August I want to finish building up my batch cooked freezer inventory of home made soups and dinner meals to start my weight loss stint.

Kingdomofsleep · 30/07/2026 17:09

Such a nice idea, i will think of September 1st as my new year!

I need to do some major decluttering and this is great motivation

Same, just looking forward to sweater weather

Yes, a level results!

I want to lose about a stone or so. I'm gonna give it my all in August

Get DS settled into Year 2

Have a clear out of toys and bits, ready for the December birthday and Christmas influx.

Try to read and/or write a bit more.

Take proper photos and get them printed and framed - we've started this over the summer holidays but want to carry on.

I also want us to take over the "Sunday dinner" mantel from my parents (with their blessing 🤣)

Keep the house tidy (ish) maybe get a routine going??

Congratulations on the new job! A fresh wardrobe for a fresh start 🥰

Road trip sounds fantastic! Will you go next summer?

I get what you mean - I've gained so much weight because of the heat honestly 😡

September is the perfect time to start working on your goals - its the new academic year after all!

I want to rest, nourish my body, hydrate, declutter my home completely, spend time with my kids, clean out the tortoise and get through all the stuff in the freezer ready for a big batch cook later in the month.

I have been a bit lazy this summer. I just want to get out in cooler weather before it decides to endlessly chuck it down.

Ooo the big batch cook for back to school?

Tortoise photo? (Only if not outing x)

Something about having a clear out before the back to school

I have never considered the 1st of September to be any sort of New Year’s Day but it makes complete sense actually.

Things I want to achieve in August include starting and finishing a big work project, and lose some weight. I don’t know how much but someone told me the standard is 2lb a week? If so, that makes half a stone. I’ll be really happy if I can lose that much.

Then I can start September with a clear head.

ParchedGarden · 31/07/2026 00:49

Can you link to last year’s thread @hotmumshit? Or is it gone, lost down the back of the sofa?

Would love to lose half a stone!

Agree, its the perfet time to reset and refresh!
