Is this a ‘Soft life’

Wellthatwasabrupt · Today 19:25

And would you want it?

Has Dh, one young Dc and dogs, lives overseas by the beach and countryside, nice house with pool and sea views.
Works 6 hours per week from home. Does all drop offs and pick ups, food shop, dinners, majority to do with Dc and sorting bills. Has a cleaner.
Dh works Mon-Fri -finishes 4.30, no one works weekends.
Days are free based around Dc school drops, coffee with friends, Pilates, yoga, studying or reading if you like, watching Netflix all day if you like, shopping, beach, pool, garden

Would you call this a soft life? Would you like it, be honest?

I would love it

I dont like working to be honest.

IAmNotMyJobTitle · Today 19:27

I’d get bored

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · Today 19:27

It sounds idyllic but I dont know what this Soft Life thing is, is it off of the tiktoks?

ComtesseDeSpair · Today 19:28

I wouldn’t want that life in particular, but I prefer choosing my own working commitments and devoting time to the things I enjoy over having to work relentlessly and scrape by.

Life is whatever an individual chooses and makes work financially, practically, and for their own fulfilment, it doesn’t need to be designated “soft.”

vincettenoir · Today 19:28

It sounds good to me on the surface (although I prefer the city). I guess I don’t know enough about the full circs so say if it’s a soft life.

DaysIllRememberAllMyLife · Today 19:29

I don't know what a soft life is but it sounds a nice life. I would want 2 children though not jist one.

parietal · Today 19:30

Sounds very chill but I’d get bored. I’d need more work or volunteering or massive amounts of gardening or some project to keep occupied.

Marroon · Today 19:30

I prefer a life more based around friends and family. Yours/ the content of your post seems quite isolated, there’s no mention of connections. Sitting at home watching Netflix while my DC are in school wouldn’t be of interest to me.

Why do you need opinions?

Really? but there’s so much variety. Time for hobbies, exercise, socialising, family time AND some work. Yeh there’s some drudgery with the housework and cooking but she also has a cleaner.

It sounds idyllic to me.

Me too. Also it would be tricky if they broke up.

My main issue with this kind of life is...sure you have coffee and pilates with other mums in the same position, but no one has anything to talk about. Everyone craves the fulfilment that comes from productivity so you either go down the try-to-sell-homemade-candles route, or become bossy at the PTA.

FrannyScraps · Today 19:32

I'd need more children. I have 3 and wouldn't have fewer than that.

MandemChickenShop · Today 19:33

any job is better than having to watch Netflix

Why would a woman have nothing to talk about simply because she only works part time?

ofcolitas · Today 19:34

I'd like it but I wouldn't say it was a soft life. Don't really think you can have a soft life if you've got kids

She reads.

She studies.

She works (albeit for 6 hours).

There’s more room for self improvement in this life than most treadmill lives where we give our best selves to our employers and run on empty the rest of the time.

Op, how do I get this life? except with more kids.

mynameiscalypso · Today 19:35

I’d be happy for a month or two but then I would struggle. Work is important to me and good for my mental health. I also, naively or otherwise, feel like my job makes a positive contribution to society.

JugBouquet · Today 19:36

Who’s funding it?

DaisyChain505 · Today 19:36

It sounds wonderful. But it’s ok to have that life and still feel like you’re not happy or something is missing.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · Today 19:36

I’ve never heard the term sift life before.
From the outside it looks idilic.
However, relying on a man ( or woman) for your finances is suicidal. Unless of course they are a multi millionaire and you can guarantee that you will get half if you split up.
Nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors.
If all is well though, yes I would love it.

JugBouquet · Today 19:37

And no, I wouldn’t. It sounds purposeless and as if the person is killing time.

Bellaboo01 · Today 19:37

No idea what a 'soft life' means but, it sounds lovely and each to their own.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · Today 19:37

xx soft life xxx

EverMissWicklowSometimes · Today 19:37

Sounds great apart from the dogs!

WyrdHag · Today 19:37

I'd like it without the husband or child but I'm 50 so...🤷🏼‍♀️

BennyHenny · Today 19:37

I’d be bored witless but I thrive on being busy and love working and having a seperate life outside of the home. Am sure plenty of people would love it though.
