People trying to carry on the drama after a heatwave

I know this is probably a stupid thing to get annoyed about but aibu to think it’s ridiculous when people keep trying to carry on after the heatwave is over.

Over the past few weeks we’ve had two mega heatwaves here, well over 30 degrees. I really struggle with the heat myself. I can happily sleep with the bedroom window open all year round and never have more than a 9 tog duvet on as I run hot.

But even when temperatures have dropped to a perfectly reasonable Summer temperature.(it’s 19 degrees here), some of my friends are still complaining how hot it is and that they can’t cope.

Dh is refusing to put the 4 tog duvet back on the bed as we will be too hot apparently and has not only the windows but the front door wide is open.

People are asking if the schools will be back open.

It’s forecast to be 25 degrees tomorrow even during the hottest part of the day.

My friend got annoyed with me when I said it had cooled down, she said it hasn’t. Surely there’s an enormous difference between 34 degrees and 25 degrees?

Aibu to think some people are just trying to carry on the drama?

Who is asking if the schools are still closing?

Some of my friends are still saying it’s going to be so hot.

It’s forecast to be 25 tomorrow where I am.

It’s a massive difference. I even hauled the duvet over me at one point last night. The woods were heaving with dog walkers early this morning because it was a lot cooler. Got out of the shower and felt the breeze coming in the windows was cool!

It is a massive difference isn’t it.

But people are voting iabu. Who is not coping in 19 degrees?

It’s 19 degrees here and people are saying it’s too hot and they can’t cope.

I mean even if the temperature is down, our house is still hot. Weve had both front and back door open all day to get the breeze in, but living room is still hot. Tbf i havent complained todsy, ive enjoyed the wind and breeze, but i defo wont be having duvet on...just use a sheet to cover me.
I guess everyone reacts slightly differently.
Also maybe qe are so used to talking about the heat, we dont know what else to say 🤣

It’s strange, isn’t it? It’s like people get it in their heads that it’s baking hot and then don’t notice when the temperature physically changes. Today has a particularly fresh breeze.
It’s mid July and where I am in the UK, we have had three baking hot weeks this summer. Everything else has been a mix of sunny and warm eg 23/24 degrees or pouring with rain (the first two weeks of June). I’m not denying climate change but these are definitely specific heatwaves rather than a constant baking summer for three months.

Backedoffhackedoff · Yesterday 20:49

The schools haven’t even been closed this time have they?!

strange friends you have

I'm still moaning but it's 27/28/28/29/26 this week with me

BeSunnyLemonSheep · Yesterday 20:50

YANBU. It’s heat. People should just grow some balls and deal with it.

hugasaurus · Yesterday 20:50

I’ve noticed this too, OP! Like 20-25 degrees is lovely summer weather really, you would be delighted with that on holiday. It’s a massive difference to 30+. But some people are apparently struggling to cope with summer weather in the early 20s, which is a bit weird, really.

thejelliclecats · Yesterday 20:50

It’s still baking here in Cumbria, 32 at lunchtime when I popped out, and about 24 now in the garden.

We also have another week of it to go!

Oh definitely, I’m not denying the extreme heat we’ve had or climate change. Temperatures over 30 degrees have felt awful.

But it’s people not seeming to notice when the temperatures have dropped by over 10 degrees that I can’t understand.

Ours closed during the second heatwave.

I think maybe everyone is just absolutely knackered?
3 weeks of nearly constant very hot weather, disrupted routines & sleep, end of term chaos, world cup chaos/late nights etc etc. I think everyone is just bit frazzled??
I know I am. In bed already!

Summerbreezeplease · Yesterday 20:54

I’m obviously not talking about people who are living in areas still baking in 30+ degree heat.

OP posts:
backformoreofthesame · Yesterday 20:55

I guess people get tired and so less tolerant after a few nights of poor sleep

and perhaps their homes are not cooling as fast as they would like - it’s still over 20 inside here despite being mostly below 20 outside for a few days

Exactly. 20-25 is quite normal for July and it’s hard to understand how people cannot notice any difference.

ThunderThunderThunderThunderCats · Yesterday 20:56

How far north are you? It’s 9pm and still 26 degrees here! Also in a well insulated new build so the heat inside is more like 32 degrees!

Ineffable23 · Yesterday 20:58

I've still had the windows etc open as the house was still 25 by the evening today. But the weather is gorgeous temperature currently, vastly more useable than 30+.

lovecotswoldsliving · Yesterday 20:58

We are forecast to have 30 degrees all week here. That’s not exactly cool!

We still have two days this week that are predicted to be 30.

Is it a bit like being a cake? You bake it, take it out of the oven, half an hour later it’s still hot. Are we, in fact, actual cakes? Do we need more time on the cooling rack?

Maybe! Perhaps some people take a while to cool back down.

Taking ages for my top floor flat to cool down. Black cladding Window restrictors We had a tree for shading but the HA chopped it down because it cost less for them to do that rather than come back now and again to trim the branches. Flats now have to have a fire door as a front door. Allowed no gaps so no ventilation. This flat has been hot since 16th June. Because this fucking sauna doesnt cool down in between these heatwaves so its been a constant heatwave in here for the last four weeks

Shhhhitsmagic · Yesterday 21:11

It's strange. It's currently 21c in S Yorkshire and I've got my blankets back out!
