My new NDN has three dogs. Help?!

As per the title, we moved in a few months ago. We’re a couple with one small dog, and next door is also a couple with 3 large dogs.

They have no control over the dogs at all. One in particular, can scale the fence and jump into our garden, 🤷🏻‍♀️ which he does on a regular basis. One of them is trying to dig a hole under the shared fence. They all bark constantly.

I’ve approached them and asked if they could do something about it, and the response was that the dogs are young and will settle down.

About 20 mins ago, one of their dogs got into our garden, came into the house as the back door was open, and ran amok barking, jumping and dragging dirt all over our new carpets. I was genuinely scared as was my small dog. 😞

I’m now sitting with the doors and windows closed, when I would like to be sitting in my garden.

What the hell can I do? I’m so pissed off.

Just do it.

I'm not even sure if trellis officially counts as increasing the height - I think that's more about massively tall panels or very high brick walls.

It does count as increasing the height unfortunately. But someone would have to actually complain for the council to come round and your neighbour probably isn’t bothered enough to complain.

If it gets picked up buy the j police or dog warden they will have to pay a fine. And if it isn't chipped and wearing an ID tag more fines...

PrizedPickledPopcorn · Yesterday 18:49

They can get a dog ASBO. A dog in our village had one, as the owners were letting it play on the green with the local kids, meaning any child afraid of dogs could no longer play outl

Thanks everyone, I’m not actually sure on the breed - they look like Doberman crossed with something, I think. They’re not “bad” dogs. I love dogs! They just haven’t been taught how to behave.

I couldn’t in good conscience put them out on the street/ front door in case they were knocked down or something. I know I probably sound like a pushover, but I just want the owners to take responsibility; I don’t want the dogs to be harmed.

Put it out in the front street.
When get have to chase round the neighbourhood for it they may take better care.

The OP is clearly an animal lover as she has a dog of her own.

She's not going to do this.

On the contrary, it just makes you sound normal.

Well then this is never going to stop, if the owners dont care and you dont do anything why would they change anything?
This is basically your life now until they move or dogs die

pilates · Yesterday 18:55

Every time they jump into your garden knock on their door and ask them to collect dog and stress this cannot continue.

Appreciate that, thank you.

I’d be worried for your little dog if more than one got into your garden. Spray them with something every time you catch them in your garden something stinky.

DDivaStar · Yesterday 18:59

Add trellis, strong trellis. If anyone questions it show them pictures ofvthevdog in your and the state ogmf your house after it got in and say you’ll happily take iy down when the dog no longer jumps the fence.

I mean, it makes you sound normal. You get another level of dog hating batshit on Mumsnet.

Sounds awful though, hope you get it sorted!

Don't let your little dog out in the garden alone until you get this problem sorted, I'd be worried about him coming to some harm. I know of a case where 2 dogs jumped the fence into the garden next door and killed the little dog living there.

Pistachiocake · Yesterday 19:10

Buy them some contraception-if they're this bad with dogs, imagine if they have kids. They're shooting up in the garden? Throwing grenades over your wall? Oh, they're only young, they'll settle down.
Seriously, keep a log of any problems in case you want to seek help from the council..

pigsDOfly · Yesterday 19:17

Just looked online OP.

There is something called coyote rollers, they are PVC pipes that can be attached to the top of the fence that roll round. So if a dog tries to get over the fence they can't get a foothold.

Of course if the dogs are jumping clear over the fence that's not going to work.

Shelleyblueeyes · Yesterday 19:18

Gila15 · Yesterday 18:28

Thank you, I did think about a trellis of some sort, but it’s a new build and we apparently can’t increase the height of the fence at all.

I'm sure trellis is fine. I think that means you can't go putting up a new 8ft fence or similar.

Everyone has trellis on new build developments it's fine.

Sonic bark deterrent? Someone mentioned then on there recently. I think some types work well and some are rubbish perhaps. I’d be looking at something like that for sure though. Should hopefully shut them up and stop them coming closer/into your garden or house. I’d also deny any knowledge of them if the neighbours kick off about their dogs being targeted 🤷🏼‍♀️

LittleRobins · Yesterday 19:18

Wow that’s miserable, I’m so sorry to hear what you’re going through. You must be on edge all the time. I don’t even know how I’d handle it so I’m fairly useless here but I do hope you find an answer. Goodness me, the self-righteousness of some people.

converseandjeans · Yesterday 19:22

The dogs sound bored - do they not go on walks? YANBU that all sounds quite stressful.

Open the frount door and put dog out on road? Not your dog not your business

Fucking he'll. it's not the dogs fault how could you even suggest something so cruel??

Dog warden is a good idea, I’m just so disappointed that this is happening. I wanted to get on with my new neighbours and now I dread stepping outside.

Have you told your neighbor about this latest incident?

maxslice · Yesterday 19:23

I am a dog and animal person generally. But no, just no. That’s unacceptable.

ChocolateCinderToffee · Yesterday 19:24

I'd turn a hosepipe on it, honestly.

swoopandscream · Yesterday 19:25

Put some kind of obstacle right next to the fence where the dog can jump over. I’m imagining a pergola pushed right onto the fence line, then the dog would be jumping up and bounced back by the pergola roof.
