To love it when colleagues bring their dogs to work and want them to do it more often?

I work in a factory and people sometimes bring their dogs in (not on the factory floor of course but in the office side or other rooms where they can safely be - today there's two in the women's shower room) and I love it so much as do many others. But I suppose there's a chance there's some people in the building that don't like dogs/scared of them/are allergic so don't like it, though no one has complained yet.

Most of the factory is on holiday this month so I am strongly encouraging people to bring dogs in while its quiet and less people to potentially be bothered, so I can get some canine cuddles when I need a break from work.

So glad I don't work with you.

The dog in my office led to me being carted off in an ambulance and spending three days in hospital due to a massive asthma attack. So it’s a no from me. He was gorgeous though and everybody loved him

LeedsLoiner · Yesterday 08:15

Oh goody another “let’s start a wind up “dogs versus people” thread” complete with “dogs in the women’s bathroom”.

I don't love dogs. I tolerate them when I have to. I have no interest in them, having "canine cuddles" or interacting with them in any way. The job of a responsible owner is to respect that and keep their animal out of my personal space. And to train their animal so it can be left at home (or paying for someone to look after it) rather than being taken into the showers at work, ffs.

I completely agree.

Responsible dog ownership is about what's best for the animal. A dog being stuck in an office, or a noisy factory, with no access to the outside and surrounded by strangers is purely for the benefit of an owner, rather than the dog.

YANBU but Mumsnet was the wrong place to ask this OP 😂

JoshLymanSwagger · Yesterday 08:16

No thanks.

I'd be straight to HR and asking why dogs are being allowed in the workplace and what they are doing to prevent it.

Only assistance dogs should be allowed.

moggerhanger · Yesterday 08:16

I think it depends on the dog. Polite, well-behaved, friendly and clean dogs - bring it on. Smelly, barky, badly-behaved dogs - no ta.

MandingoAteMyBaby · Yesterday 08:16

They should be in a cage out the back. Horrific to bring bloody dogs to a place of work.

OvernightBloats · Yesterday 08:17

It's not so fun when dogs are brought in and you work in an enclosed space. I work in a place where the windows can't be opened - it is a large space but still the smell of unwashed dogs is unpleasant.

Thankfully, it doesn't happen often that dogs are brought in. Air freshener comes in useful! I do like dogs but they don't belong in the workplace unless there are exceptional circumstances.

The trouble is every owner believes their dog is well behaved, friendly and clean. They're in denial of course. But no one is going to admit they have an out of control, smelly dog.

It absolutely does not depend on the dog.

Every owner who thinks it's in any way appropriate to bring their animal into work is going to say it falls into the first category. Because they are so blinkered about their pet and thinks everyone should love it the same way they do.

Thepeopleversuswork · Yesterday 08:18

Dogs are one of the most polarising topics on Mumsnet: a lot of people are affronted about their very existence.

I love dogs but I think you’re being naive if you think everyone would embrace this.

BiteSizedLife · Yesterday 08:21

I absolutely adore dogs and do wish we had a dog friendly office.

Monty36 · Yesterday 08:22

I wonder whether your factory has the appropriate insurance to allow dogs on the premises ? If something went wrong, someone became ill or indeed a dog bit another dog or human ? Staff or visitor.
I would not encourage people to bring a dog into a factory. In a heatwave especially. They are not toys.

Jumbaree · Yesterday 08:23

I wonder if someone could sue OP for constructive dismissal? If someone decided that our office was dog friendly I’d be looking for a new job immediately. Totally unacceptable.

I think they may have known that 😂

I minded very much when a colleague brought her two dogs. Her office smelled and the dogs frequently escaped and left deposits in the corridor.

I hate it, and when junior would have been too intimidated to point out that I’m mildly allergic and rather scared.

yanbu to enjoy it, but in most workplaces, yabu to encourage it

Got your own dog or just visit your friends who have dogs.

I’d love it. Always makes my day when I meet a dog on the train on my way in to work.

09s · Yesterday 08:33

My boss brings her dog into the office and I’m supposed to go all soppy over it or something. Can’t stand dogs, smelly yappy thing it is. Find it really annoying that she does this and we all have to sit in the tiny office with its fishy food stinking away on the corner

Monty36 · Yesterday 08:35

What sort of dogs might come in ?
There is a world of difference between breeds. And how well trained do you know they will be.
It is showing no consideration to other people or indeed any dogs.

Livelovebehappy · Yesterday 08:36

I would love that, but youre posting on a site where dogs arent really liked so youre going to get some very angry comments on here.....

But there's really not a difference. They all smell, they all bark, they all might be badly trained or perfectly behaved. OK, smaller ones take up less space and that's about the only difference.

Kidsandhouse · Yesterday 08:41

I don't love, or even like dogs.

So that's a no from me.

Thankfully my employers have more sense than to allow this.

If there was a bring your dog day in my office, I'd stay home. And look for another job...

There is a world of difference between a small well behaved spaniel ( not a yappy one) and a rottie or pit bull.
And breed matters.
