I mean really, this is just pathetic. No one is believing that KC couldn’t find a spare bed for his son. AIBU to think that as the parent KC needs to get a grip and grow up instead of just fuelling the drama?

Buckingham Palace says Prince Harry will not stay at palace

Royal sources say the Duke of Sussex had not responded to the offer of accommodation at a Royal residence by the deadline last week.

The Queen and Prince Phillip wanted them to stay at Balmoral, protected from it all but no, the great British public had their pitchforks out and demanded they come back to London, I remember the headlines at the time whipping everyone into a fury.

I think it was awful too and it has clearly damaged them, particularly Harry.

I do wonder (with a good degree of hindsight) whether the Queen could have put out a much sterner statement to the press. Something along the lines of "we are trying to allow the boys as much of the peace and tranquility of Balmoral as possible to begin coming to terms with their loss"

Might have helped. Might not.

What's he problem with a late confirmation though?

Not enough lackeys to get the spare bed ready?
Not enough spare bedding?
Everyone would be gone to bed and the place locked up for the night if he sent his reply after business hours on Friday?

It all.looks very cold and very odd, and I don't think the King comes off looking like father of the year, to be honest.

Lackeys? , do you refer to all people with service jobs this way? Or only those who work for the royal family!

Moving away hasn't made him any less of a target, and it's strange that that isn't appreciated by those in a position to sign whatever paperwork would be necessary to provide appropriate protection.

Lack of appropriate protection funded by the British taxpayer/ reliance on the Fayed drivers and bodyguards ended very badly for the mother and grandmother of two future kings after all.

Moving away on his “freedom flight “ obviously hasn’t made him less whiny or independent either!! 42 and running home to the family he attacked!

We don’t know that it has damaged Harry more than William, just because Harry shouts the loudest it doesn’t mean William’s pain is lesser. As for the Palace not issuing a statement, it wouldn’t have made a jot of difference the media and public were baying with their pitchforks, no one would have listened.

the Royal Family handled their protection privately. In a subsequent televised address on September 5, 1997, Queen Elizabeth thanked the public for their sympathy and mentioned her focus was on helping the young princes.
Years later, in the 2017 BBC documentary Diana, 7 Days, Princes William and Harry publicly confirmed this. They revealed that the Queen and Prince Charles actively shielded them from the media frenzy. The Queen deliberately removed radios and newspapers from their Balmoral estate so the young boys could mourn in privacy without being subjected to the overwhelming public hysteria

Yes! , poor , poor Harry ! The only child to lose his mother! , the only child of Diana! , the only child to walk behind her coffin! , he alone faced mental health issues because of this event ! , all alone ! …….but wait….. he has a brother….. only two years older……who was there too ! ……. Another son of Diana!! ….saints be praised!!

At least the poor boy has an excellent name for the sequel of his book.

Spare Room.

Bestseller. Awesome. Literary genius. Stunning. Five stars.

That made me LOL 🤣

Despite the staggering netflix and book deals he's done he wants you to pay for his security.

The level of entitlement is unreal.

They are a stain on our society and should be abolished.

Only those who work for the royal family. I'd bet the farm that the royal family also sees them as lackeys. They are notoriously poorly paid, after all.

Do tell which part of that extract no mental health professional would agree with?

Every word of it.

Especially the game of chicken - 'I'll do it if you do it'.

How anyone could post that as evidence of anything except a complete disregard for the mental health of the two youths is baffling to me.

Despite the staggering income of the RF, they still expect the taxpayers to contribute to many of their expenses.

You clearly haven’t read the thread which explains why it’s a problem or you are wilfully ignoring the many many posts explaining why it isn’t just a case of making up a spare bed.

No, my problem is that I don't worship the ground the Saxe Coburg Gotha Mountbatten Windsor family's shadow falls on, so I expect a little more human responsiveness of them than many here do. I find it odd that they are clearly widely believed to be operating on a more rarified plane than mere mortals, as shown by many posts here.

If I was KC, I'd have offered Harry a bedroom at Clarence House and put a couple of camp beds in there for the kids 😁. KC could then have spent some quality time with the grandkids. Perfectly secure. What could Harry have complained about with that arrangement?

Would make e collect fodder for snother book ss snother poster suggested

Agree completely

They extort huge amounts of rent from the charities they are "patrons" of.

We would have more tourism if they weren't here, not less.

Staffing for a start.
They'd have told staff on you aren't needed next week at BH your needed elsewhere or Your free to book your last minute getaway.

You can't expect people to suddenly be available at the drop of a hat.

I didn’t read the book but have to say if you write a memoir about your family and basically drag their names through the mud, you’re lucky they still want to have anything to do with you. They offered him somewhere to stay and he didn’t respond on time. He seems to enjoy drama which is quite sad. I don’t recall him being this way in the past, he always came across really well.

I had no idea she'd removed the newspapers and radios. Very astute woman was HMQ.

Everyone forgets William was just a couple of years older.

I don't think there was a right or wrong answer to the boys taking their place behind the coffin. They could regret it either way.
I have no doubt there was more than one conversation about it.

I'm also sure it wasn't confirmed if Harry was going to walk until the start of the procession. I think they had it planned he could go with his Gran right up until the last minute.

Mesk · 07/07/2026 06:46

I think Charles wasn’t the greatest father figure and I doubt he is an engaged grandfather, but the middle aged Harry needs to move on from wanting his dad (and the Uk taxpayer) to pay his way. Charles was right to tell him to sling his hook when he couldn’t make up his mind if he would stay in a Royal property or not, anyway he shouldn’t be allowed to stay in any tax payer funded property, I’m sure Charles has plenty of his own personal properties to offer them.

And the cheek of Harry still falsely claiming the UK, and London particularly, is so racist and dangerous he can’t bring his wife and kids here unless he has Nigeria levels of security.

The lot of them as a collective are outdated and entitled, but Harry and his wife trump them all, his wife was a working Royal for all of 2 seconds, and despite taking the bold step to walk away, they are clinging to all the Royal things they publicly claimed to detest. Meghan, an American, being announced by her British RF title to a room with only one person in it, in America no less, fucking hilarious, Harry expecting, demanding and begging for Royal security that is deemed unnecessary, fucking desperation to look like a real Royal when he is swanning around the UK wasting charity funds and tax payer money and vilifying the people of the country he desperately needs for relevancy.

Yes, so many posts defending Harry, who doesn't even live in the UK, but still expects taxpayer support! That's proper privilege and entitlement! I think his supporters must be high level royalists. Harry is a Royal Prince, and that is enough for them.

I think the reason people forget William was only a couple of years older is that at the time of the funeral he'd had a grown spurt and was the same height as the adults. Harry in contrast was clearly shorter. It's reacting to optics whereas the reality is that William was a grieving child as well. It must have been very difficult for both of them.

Good points. I had to laugh at Meghan being introduced by her title to that interviewer, when there were only the two of them! Comical.

Good points. Also, when Philip was a teenager, his favourite sister, Cecilie, was killed in a plane crash. He effectively had no parents.
He walked behind her coffin, and I'm wondering if he offered support to Harry and William because of his experience?
