We’re going on holiday in 8 weeks’ time and, for reasons I won’t bore you with, have had to leave it quite late to book. We’ve now settled on an itinerary and I’ve found the most amazing accommodation in one of the Nordic destinations we’re visiting. It’s exactly what I need at the moment- an adults-only luxurious villa on a lake with private sauna, veranda, and lots of opportunities to relax. It’s part of a resort so loads of facilities and activities. Food looks great.

I was all set to book and did another trawl through TripAdvisor and came across this picture from a 3-year old review Shock

Now, I’m not the biggest fan of mice indoors but I’m not afraid of them and, realistically speaking, lots of hotels probably have mice but we don’t see them, but a mouse in a hallway or behind the bins is different to one on an actual bed. The review is from 3 years ago and all of the review since rate hygiene highly and there’s no mention of anything else like this.

I’m now thinking of not booking. However, I can’t see any other accommodation options that tick as many boxes for us.

DH is of the view that, while it’s not something we’d like to encounter, a mouse going indoors in a forest setting isn’t out of the ordinary and it seems to be isolated to one review from three years ago.

YANBU- Skip

Can't get a link to work, ignore me!

Don’t eat crisps in bed and you’ll be fine? 😆

Kim5678 · 03/07/2026 15:57

How many years back did you go when looking at reviews? I think I’d stop at or before 2 and decide the others weren’t relevant as they were so long ago. Looks beautiful! I doubt they’d still be in business if they had an uncontrollable mouse problem lasting years

I always read two 5 stars and two from the lowest ratings!

Spot on!

Loads of lovely lakeside options but we’re limited because of not being able to book earlier.

One of my dream destinations have a fabulous time

It’s actually a rat!

I don’t understand what you’re saying.

Are you suggesting that I took this photo and it’s not from TripAdvisor?

Because it literally is. Here’s the uncropped version.

I’m guessing you think that Google reverse image search only brings you up the exact image? Because it doesn’t.

Another one for you. I’m sorry you wasted your afternoon going through every single image ever posted on TripAdvisor ever.

I have no idea why a hotel room guest would have anything with them.

Can you post the link to the food you’re talking about because I have tried searching and nothing came up? The closest suggestion I could find, based on a translation of some of the ingredients I made out (wheat flour, dried yogurt, rapeseed oil) was some kind of a granola or muesli product but I’m not 100%.

You seem to be intent on having some kind of “gotcha” conspiracy (that extends across TikTok and Google by the sounds of things) but it’s not that complicated. It’s simply a photo of a mouse that was posted on a review on TripAdvisor complaining about a mouse.

Can’t you just message the owners asking if the mouse problem has been resolved as you’ve seen a photo of it online? And hope they’re honest.

Do you know how Google Lens actually works? Because you’re treating it like it’s some sort of definitive fact-checker, and it isn’t. It searches for visually similar images that Google has indexed. A screenshot, cropped image, or one that isn’t widely publicly indexed often won’t return a match.
So “Google Lens couldn’t find it” isn’t evidence that the photo doesn’t exist online.

I’m really baffled at your approach here.

What is it you’re actually trying to say, because I’ve shown you screenshots from TripAdvisor where you can clearly see that the photo is from a review.

Posters like you are why I rarely use MN these days. It’s like having to justify yourself constantly in the face of someone relying on AI for “facts”.

I’d be fine if a mouse was spotted but he seems to have been fairly well established. Plus there was mouse poo everywhere.

A mouse doesn’t bother me all that much, but the idea of sleeping in a bed of mouse poo and then questions about the general hygiene of the place would niggle.

I suppose my initially reaction is “it was one mouse three years ago, it doesn’t seem to be a big problem” but I’m wondering if I’m being weirdly laidback compared to how others would feel?

One mouse 3 years ago is nothing to worry about. If there was a proper infestation there would be multiple reviews talking about it.

I was thinking of that (and I think someone mentioned it down thread too), but it probably won’t do much good as there’s no way they’ll email back saying “yes, mice are a terrible problem here”.
I figure the only thing they’ll tell me is that they don’t have a mouse problem, even if they do (which I’m sure at this stage they don’t based on the other reviews.)

I found a dead mouse in our sitting room when I moved furniture a few months ago. I haven’t fled the house yet

No harm in asking though. At least you’ll have your own pics if by chance there is a mouse there. I’m sure they have to abide by health and safety etc guidelines eg no mice there so doubtful there are mice there.

I’ve found the bag.

They’re Taffel Manor dill and sour cream flavored crisps.

You can see that the girl on the bag is the same one as in the review photo.

And happy viewing. You’ll love Cape Fear, it’s right up your alley.

I feel your pain! When we had mice a few years ago, we thought we had gotten rid of all of them until a smell started in our sitting room. We eventually discovered a decaying mouse corpse in one of our ceiling vents Envy

We often have mice in the hice, the cat brings one in, plays with it, gets bored and then its running around. You cant get to them. We often find them dead and shrivelled up under something some years later

It wouldnt bother me, you need to add on spiders, bugs, moths, flies as well. Its nature.

And 3 years ago anyway. My god!!!
