Surely this is going too far. I wouldn’t agree with it if it was the final.

BBC ARE REPORTING THE MATCH HAS BEEN PUT BACK TO 7PM DUE TO STORMS

There will be people demanding that the little dears have counselling when England lose!
There are potentially five matches still to play. Are we to have this nonsense for each one. Hopefully England will lose and we can all blame the Ref, manager, selectors, the FA; in fact anyone except the players whose fault it really is.
Don't forget to claim long and loud that, "We was robbed".

You OK?

Not confirmed but a strong possibility

Allonthesametrain · 03/07/2026 20:17

Common sense, get up a couple of hours earlier to watch recorded, what we're doing. I need to be in work as a teacher and DD in school. Earlier night, alarm set, not that hard.

Unclench. This country used to be able to have a laugh. Bring back Vindalooooo na na I say.

I love that song and also that woman, falling around in heels and leopard print in the music video, is an icon I want to emulate.

JoshLymanSwagger · 03/07/2026 20:19

THE GAME HAS BEEN MOVED TO SUNDAY 7PM UK TIME DUE TO THE WEATHER.

Not shouting - just trying to, y'know, update everyone. 😁

Wait until it is officially confirmed, just in case

If it's true, then FIFA have been on Mumsnet.

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 03/07/2026 20:39

Just watching the news. See England's match has now been moved to an earlier time. Possibility of a heavy storm.

Fat Les is pleased. He says he can now make all the England team players a massive Vindaloo for supper. Complete with Carlsberg Special

Expect Harry Kane will be carrying the team yet again. He is the only real, world class player they have.

Big it up for King Harry

How are you getting from what was written that they don't need to get a doctor's note? The initial post about the school said they'll require one, there was no suggestion that any other proof would be acceptable and no basis to presume it. That's the problem.

The post said that if they stay off then they need to provide a drs note. If they don’t provide one they will not be allowed to attend the school trip/ disco.

The school knows anyone keeping their child off will not be able to get a drs note. Even if they can see a dr no dr will give a note for tiredness due to football so basically, it’s bribery. Your child stays off they lose the end of year events.

Yep. Although if they do try and enforce this, there's a risk parents will keep their kids off that day as well.

GoneWithTHeWindJammers · 03/07/2026 20:53

This just means we will be out of the World Cup earlier. Instead of going to bed, excited that they will wake up Monday morning, hearing that England are in the Quarter finals, children will go to bed Sunday night miserable.

Washingupdone · 03/07/2026 20:57

The game could be played earlier as there is talk of the forecast of bad storms so play could start at 7pm Sunday evening

Flyingintotheunknown · 03/07/2026 20:59

The school cannot enforce it. A doctors note is generally for employment purposes, not as an excuse for school head teachers on a power trip to start putting extra strain on GPs when GP services are already extremely stretched to the limit. GPs generally do not as a rule write Drs notes for school children. And even if they did, the child would have to be off for a week before they could write one. A sick note is a legal binding document and cannot be requested on a whim just because a school is on a power trip and trying to manipulate and bully kids and parents. Unless schools have evidence to back up the fact they suspect a child/ parent is fibbing about an illness when the child otherwise has good attendance the rest of the time there is very little they can do.

GP appointments are fully booked for weeks in advance so expecting a parent to magically up a Dr’s note for one day off is completely unrealistic anyway.

At least they won’t wake up in the morning being all excited only to find out England lost and then feel miserable for the rest of the day.

GoneWithTHeWindJammers · 03/07/2026 21:05

I am watching the Aus V Egypt game and BBC are now saying might be rescheduled. The commentator said something about the FA needing more time. Doctors notes may still be needed for Monday.

downloadtoad · 03/07/2026 21:11

Looking more and more likely match time being moved to 7pm our time, lots of people on Reddit gutted they ain’t going the pub til 5am now 😆

Lunaloud · 03/07/2026 21:12

Nrtft

i really couldn’t give a shit about football or England playing, but I do understand that for some reason English people are dammed for being patriotic and dammed if they are not..

Local schools around here have given the kids various options, DDs school will be airing a replay at 9 am for children in the hall if they want to watch it, football shirts allowed, 2 other schools are giving the kids a free pass that the won’t get a late or absence mark if they make it into school by 10am.

Its the end of the school year, it’s all about fun games, trips, plays, taster sessions, hardly any work happens, dd14 spent her whole day today firstly helping out at a local schools primary for sports day then chaperoning a group of year 4 children from another primary school around her high school. So as a non England or football supporter I don’t see the big deal about being relaxed on the issue.

The ones who suffer are the children. Especially if they were looking forward to the trip or disco. A shame really.

At our school we have been told doctors notes will be required for the day after the match for ‘illness’. Any flouting and the child will not be allowed to take part in the end of term party or the organised school trip.

As if GPS aren't busy enough FFS. They'd get bloody told off in my practice.

I heard him talking and he was encouraging it and implying that parents who didn't allow it boring fun sponges.

Ah, come on now 😂

You heard a journalist asking him what his message was to parents who have children who want to stay up, and you heard him respond - with a massive grin on his face - saying that children should watch it….and you thought that was a serious response??

It was a silly question, and Thomas Tuchel responded with an equally silly, frivolous response. I’ve attached a still of the press conference - it’s not a serious expression 😂😂

It is mind-boggling that some parents seem to have taken his comment seriously, and feel attacked because the England national coach hasn’t validated their parenting choices.

It’s as if no one is allowed to make jokes any more. Not everything has to be earnest. I’m sure Thomas Tuchel never expected people to be looking to him to uphold parenting standards.

Are you actually being serious?
Do you usually consult the current England football manager for parenting advice?
