Surely this is going too far. I wouldn’t agree with it if it was the final.

For those who can't stay up to watch the match, the BBC will be launching a special 'Stay Up or Catch Up' offer for its live coverage of England's game against Mexico at the 2026 World Cup.

Why’s Harry pinching his nipples?

Holier-than-thou attitude for saying parents should boundaries in place fir their dcs??

I’m getting very confused here. Isn’t that …. normal???

Not in modern Britain. British kids are known globally for being special snowflakes - its why so many are unemployable.

ProudGreyGuide · 03/07/2026 18:49

It's the Roundheads versus the Cavaliers all over again....;)

Police officers have lives. Their rotas will change at short notice. They probably had plans they will be expected to drop at short notice.
They may work for us, but they’re not at our beck and call. Rather an entitled attitude.

Some might even have had plans to watch the match rather sorting out fights in the street. .

I heard him talking and he was encouraging it and implying that parents who didn't allow it boring fun sponges.

Is he someone you generally take parenting advice from?
If he is, I can see that it would be concerning.

If he's not, then I wouldn't worry.

Mermaidsarereal · 03/07/2026 19:00

It’s ridiculous to think small kids would be able to stay up this late to watch football, they don’t even know what’s going on half of the time.

JJMama · 03/07/2026 19:05

I mean if you’re the sort to listen to random celebs/sports people/influencers to parent your children, then it’s a problem.

The rest of the country is fine.

ovals · 03/07/2026 19:07

The manager was asked a question and responded light heartedly. It’s not a law that you must keep your children up and force them to watch a game. Put your kids to bed, make yourselves a camomile tea and ignore the people having fun. You can have fun in your own way.

At our school we have been told doctors notes will be required for the day after the match for ‘illness’. Any flouting and the child will not be allowed to take part in the end of term party or the organised school trip.

Edited

@Floppyearedlab that is absolutely ridiculous threatening like that ! I would be so cross. If they are sick you wouldn’t be expected to get a sick note normally.

Dawnb19 · 03/07/2026 19:19

It's ridiculous. It's not even the quarter or semi finals. If it was the final I'd probably be ok with the schools opening at 11 or something. They could have a nap before it all starts. Luckily my children have already broken up for the summer holidays as we've moved to Northern Ireland from England but I'd still would have made them go to school the next day.

Not worried at all as my 'kids' are over 30 but I still think he is a dickhead

Our school (primary) have said that they will show the whole match in the school hall on Monday morning.

BigPurpleBookQueen · 03/07/2026 19:30

Finding it all a bit silly for a football match.

be sensible, don’t let children that need to be at school in the morning stay up to watch this!

Aww.thats lovely.

Stoneangel · 03/07/2026 19:34

We are in this position because of feckless useless parents that keep their kids off school with the slightest sniffle all the time. My 10 year old boy loves football. Will he be staying up? No. Will he have a day off school? No. If my husband stays up, he's expected to work the next day. It's life. We are even in the final for goodness sake...

Middlemarch123 · 03/07/2026 19:39

I’m sorry but aren’t we a bit premature here? They’re not in the final, and they are unlikely to get there, but if they do great. Let’s think about the time difference and logistics then, England are playing a team that will probably knock them out. It’s happening at 1 a.m. Adults can stay up, otherwise kids can watch it the following morning, before school if parents record it, and fast forward. Load of fuss about nothing.

That's harsh! And quite a bit racist!

What’s racist about ice cream?

Maninasuitcase · 03/07/2026 20:03

There will be people demanding that the little dears have counselling when England lose!
There are potentially five matches still to play. Are we to have this nonsense for each one. Hopefully England will lose and we can all blame the Ref, manager, selectors, the FA; in fact anyone except the players whose fault it really is.
Don't forget to claim long and loud that, "We was robbed".

mrlistersgelfbride · 03/07/2026 20:03

This England side lack passion, they were pretty rubbish against Congo, and i don’t believe its worth a sleepless night.
I say this as someone who is a night owl and watches a hell of a lot of football.
