To think that retailers should be forced to tell us who they are using as couriers BEFORE we commit to buying something?

Yes this is a first world problem but I am really hacked off that yet again - and for the second time in ten days - Evri has failed to deliver my parcel. I try to avoid them and these two orders were with retailers who usually use Royal Mail (also useless, but at least they have regulators who at least notice that they CBA to deliver on time), so those retailers must have switched to Evri.

Surely it can't be unreasonable to expect the opportunity to see who will be handling the parcel and say 'no thanks'?

Completely agree. Our (most recent of a long line with gaps in between) Evri guy announced to me on 19th Dec that he was off on holiday until 30th Dec.... parcels would have to wait till then (fortunately I'd already switched to collection for other things). And then a few months ago his car broke down and was scrapped, so he asked people on the round via FB to give him money for a new car, and would you believe they did! Over £1k.... I could not believe how they all thought he was some sort of charity delivering parcels for the good of the people...
Anyway, he's quit now.

Wow, they've cheek of some people!

Beingseenisneedy · 06/07/2026 22:32

My issue is websites that say they don't deliver to our area at all.
We're close to, but not in the Scottish Highlands.
Even for those in the Highlands, most couriers deliver there, so not sure why a company would choose not to.

I've spent time looking at a website, selecting and when it's time to check out, nope! Don't deliver.
So frustrating, I just go elsewhere now.

I’ve never had a problem with Evri, our delivery guy is brilliant. DPD I try and avoid and Amazon are absolutely shocking.

Ive read that Amazon drivers are being told to not even knock on the door now just to leave parcels and rely on doorbells.
Then today I saw my neighbour was in, his work van was there, (the driver had to walk past it on the small drive) and he had an amazon parcel leaning against his front door.
It puts me off ordering online ATM. EBay is awful , it's taking over a week for parcels here.

Strawberriesandcaviar · 06/07/2026 22:33

I so agree! around here Royal Mail, DPD and Amazon are reliable, Evri are not.

there is a new site called quibble, I might log this on there

Evri are a shower of shit.
RM aren't much better. Changed my delivery to pick up from the post office, they still tried to deliver home and of course I got the 'we tried to deliver' message. So now I've selected the post office (again!) for tomorrow.

I love that insta reel

Strawberriesandcaviar · 06/07/2026 22:42

Amazon now knock and run. I work about 10 feet from the door and they’ve generally gone by the time I answer

Not quite the same, but the situation I have found myself in twice in the last month is where I thought I was ordering from someone in the UK - .co.uk URL, apparently UK address, courier name I recognise - only to discover when the tracking info starts that the item I ordered is starting it's journey in China. The named courier is only for the last bit of the journey.

I am currently waiting on such a parcel. The website said Royal Mail used for delivery but clearly it has to get here from China first.

You've made me check an order that seems to be taking longer than expected, and it's exactly this!

First time it's happened on an actual .co.uk website and it actually says UK based on the main page.

I did think it was cheap at the time of ordering, but didn't think to check, although nothing says anything about being overseas China anyway.

Had it once with Etsy and haven't ordered anything from there since.

Mine is still in transit, although the tracking info shows it has made some progress.

However, the "last mile" courier has now been changed to Yodel, even though the website explicitly said they used Royal Mail.

Can't believe they're allowed to get away with this.
Hope yours turns up soon.
Mine is due tomorrow 🤞.

When Evri was Hermes I had a lovely lady courier, I could even drop off & pick up parcels from her house, we were on first named terms. Then it changed to Evri & everything changed to shit with parcels going missing. I don't have any problems with Royal Mail or DPD, just Evri.

sparkymummy2 · Yesterday 07:41

I agree that it should be clearly displayed, you shouldn’t have to search for this information.
In my area, Evri are truly awful, I’ve had six parcels from different retailers go missing in the last month alone. I can’t understand the false economy of companies continuing to use them, if they have to continually issue refunds to customers.
I recently placed an order with M&S. Part one of the order came within two days, via Royal Mail. Part two came two weeks later, via Evri. Part 3 arrived after a further five days, again via Evri. Enough said….🙄😩

I completely agree.

Everyone is going to have a different preference as service levels for the various companies differ across the country and by individual delivery driver. It, therefore, makes sense that we’re all going to need this information to make an informed choice.

Personally, my heart sinks if I see that a company uses Royal Mail for delivery.

My heart sinks as well. Royal Mail are impossible to sort out if you are not in, and they have lost my parcals.
With Evri i can pick up at a little shop on my way home from work.

Myblueclematis · Yesterday 08:10

The only courier service I've had a problem with so far has been Yodel. If I was going to buy something and saw that it would be delivered by them, I'd try and find the item somewhere else that uses someone else.

Evri are generally very good and my most used service for deliveries is Royal Mail and fortunately, we have a fairly regular same postman and he always delivers or leaves my parcel in the porch with no problems.

Beingseenisneedy · 06/07/2026 22:28

Wow, cheeky Michelle!! That is shocking behaviour as they get paid for delivering.

Half the town is baffled as to how she is still allowed to "deliver" for Evri. As the 6 weeks holiday is approaching she will not be delivering a thing for the next 6 weeks and instead everyone will need to collect round her house when she decides she will be in. People have complained.

Indaloo · Yesterday 08:17

I actually love inpost. They are amazing.

Royal mail is my number 2 for general items but I choose them for expensive stuff.

If I don’t know who the carrier is I get expensive items shipped to the in-laws village.

GreyCarpet · Yesterday 08:18

My heart also sinks if I see Royal Mail. It takes ages to arrive and I've been sitting in the living room (about 3 feet from the front door) when they've not even knocked the door and just put a card through to say no one was in.

I've never had an issue with Evri! Everything has always been delivered well, on time and carefully. The tracking system is accurate. I've only once had a delivery not arrive when it was scheduled and the tracking system noted it, gave a delivery date of the following day and there it was.

Our Evri driver is so good that Evri is actually my preference! I am aware that is very unusual though.

I used to be a shopaholic- both in store and online. But poor service in both has cured me. Most of the shops (that are left) seem to have ditched customer service and a nice customer experience and waiting for parcels that may show up, and a returns process has finally cured my ways. I don’t bother buying much these days.

likelysuspect · 03/07/2026 19:00

Who were they?

I can't really remember now! Crew Clothing and Seasalt were two of them.

igelkott2026 · Yesterday 08:41

I actually find Royal Mail are good (as long as the parcel is tracked but most are now). You can see when they are likely to deliver and change it to another day if you are not there and worst case scenario if you work full time you go to the sorting office to collect it.

They are pretty good with parcels where I live - it's the letters they save up for a week and then deliver. Although if you have a parcel they will often, though not always, bring the letters too.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 01/07/2026 13:58

This information is usually available in my experience. Using in the delivery and returns section of many websites. I avoid ordering if I no something will be delivered by evri too, but it typically shows in the relevent section of website or when selecting delivery

I find many get out of it by being very vague, such as it depends on the size or your location and not giving you the list of possible options.

lilkitten · Yesterday 11:49

I only like to use Royal Mail, so I order if they say they are sending by that, but some companies chop and change.
For delivery to my work, most couriers don't seem to deliver in business hours. The only ones I can rely on are RM or Amazon (who have us listed as a business, and have our opening hours). Whenever the others have tried, they tell us they will be here at times like 6pm to 8pm, so I have to stay late.
For home, I'm usually not in, and RM will leave a card, but the others either leave it by the front door (a terraced house) or throw it into the garden (so many damages this way - so far £120 of John Lewis goods broken, I can't believe John Lewis use Evri!).
I'm much happier with suppliers who let you choose the delivery option and pay accordingly.
I'd love more of them to offer lockers, as that's much easier for me. I've tried getting Evri to take things to a local shop for me, but despite it saying that they always try to deliver to my house.

oustedbymymate · Yesterday 11:54

Yes!! DHL avoid like the plague

TwitchetyWitcheryWooWoo · Yesterday 12:49

The local Evri couriers in my area are lovely (if the goods actually get to them). Problem here is that goods arrive at Evri’s local delivery hub and then either have an extended ‘holiday’ there (anything up to 2 weeks at times) before eventually getting to the courier or, on a regular basis, somehow getting ‘lost’ at the delivery hub. I now try not to buy if Evri is the courier the company uses. Never had a problem with Royal Mail and like the shops that offer them as an alternative to Evri. Be great if Evri could sort themselves out however that seems like a very long shot for a company that really could care less about their performance.

Gardeningsideeffects · Yesterday 12:51

Hard agree.
I won't buy on vinted unless it is inpost or RM.

Evri takes twice the amount of time and gets thrown over our fence.
