To think that retailers should be forced to tell us who they are using as couriers BEFORE we commit to buying something?

Yes this is a first world problem but I am really hacked off that yet again - and for the second time in ten days - Evri has failed to deliver my parcel. I try to avoid them and these two orders were with retailers who usually use Royal Mail (also useless, but at least they have regulators who at least notice that they CBA to deliver on time), so those retailers must have switched to Evri.

Surely it can't be unreasonable to expect the opportunity to see who will be handling the parcel and say 'no thanks'?

This information is usually available in my experience. Using in the delivery and returns section of many websites. I avoid ordering if I no something will be delivered by evri too, but it typically shows in the relevent section of website or when selecting delivery

LadyRoughDiamond · 01/07/2026 13:59

I completely agree.

Everyone is going to have a different preference as service levels for the various companies differ across the country and by individual delivery driver. It, therefore, makes sense that we’re all going to need this information to make an informed choice.

Personally, my heart sinks if I see that a company uses Royal Mail for delivery.

comeondover · 01/07/2026 13:59

Agree. I've started to think less of companies who use Evri. I've not had problems with Royal Mail though

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 01/07/2026 14:05

Agree. Evri are awful. I don’t know how they get away with constantly not completing delivery or losing parcels.
I do wonder what percentage are successful/ unsuccessful deliveries.

35965a · 01/07/2026 14:11

Most companies do tell you but yes, the ones who don’t absolutely should have to tell us.

I prefer Evri or Royal Mail. I know a lot of people hate Evri but I’ve never had a problem with them, they seem quite good in my area.

Its not though... not always.

I think it’s probably pretty rare that the info isn’t available anywhere, it’s just knowing where to look.

I alwyas hated Hermes and had missed the news of rebranding and ordered something with Evri. Now i know to avoid Evri again.

One of the parcels is from M&S so I just checked their website. They just refer to 'couriers' and they used to use Royal Mail. I will have to move to instore collection - and an 18 mile round trip to collect it.

I’ve never had a problem with Evri, our delivery guy is brilliant. DPD I try and avoid and Amazon are absolutely shocking.

5foot5 · 01/07/2026 14:26

Not quite the same, but the situation I have found myself in twice in the last month is where I thought I was ordering from someone in the UK - .co.uk URL, apparently UK address, courier name I recognise - only to discover when the tracking info starts that the item I ordered is starting it's journey in China. The named courier is only for the last bit of the journey.

I am currently waiting on such a parcel. The website said Royal Mail used for delivery but clearly it has to get here from China first.

Anothernameretired · 01/07/2026 14:34

I think it would be nice to be able to choose like you can on Vinted.
Maybe two options as it's so variable for everyone.
I've had most problems with Royal Mail, because they tell you it's coming and then it doesn't whereas some of the others just surprise me (which is easier in a way).
Also RM don't leave the parcel at the door, which doesn't suit me, but I can totally see that it might suit others.

Beer3000 · 01/07/2026 14:38

One of the reasons I buy from Vinted is the option to pick my courier. I often wish more companies used the same model.

Though, I would pick my nice local Evri man every time. I avoid DPD and especially Yodel (from a depot 70 miles away) like the plague.

QuintessentiallyScottish · 01/07/2026 14:39

I've been thinking about ordering something from a company but their charges are astronomical. If I want to buy a £5 lightweight item, the P&P, going by their website, will be £31.50. They are going by DHL's zone map which is a fucking joke. I considered emailing them to ask if they would still charge that for such a small, lightweight package but haven't quite decided if I want it enough. They must lose a lot of business with those charges.

I had something from another company delivered by DHL recently and the P&P was about £3 or £4 with no additional 'Highlands of Scotland' (I am not in the Highlands no matter what DHL claims)🙄 charge. How does that work?

Fiddlesticks1 · 01/07/2026 14:42

Never had a problem with DPD and with Evri I get parcels delivered to a shop. Saves the worry of something not arriving or being taken from the doorstep.

Buscobel · 01/07/2026 14:49

The Evri person here is excellent. Royal Mail hit and miss and they completely ignore any instruction to amend the delivery, even when they say you can do that. Amazon don’t seem to do next day delivery any more and DHL and DPD are sometimes OK and sometimes not.

If I buy from M&S or Next, I’ll collect from the local Next store and the local M&S Food. Otherwise, I think perhaps delivery to a locker may be better.

No... believe me, I know where to look as I detest (N)Evri ... they just dont state who the courier is. Unless it 24/48 hr Royal Mail or DPD.

Yes. Massively aggravating isnt it?
Pisses me right off.

hahabahbag · 01/07/2026 14:55

Not had any issue with evri since I opted to have parcels dropped off at the coop, very convenient compared to running around after Royal Mail (running around my estate looking for the parcel van is a local hobby as they no longer drop off locally the undelivered ones, 15 miles is ridiculous to pick up parcels)

Purplecatshopaholic · 01/07/2026 14:59

I do think this should be routinely part of the info given to buyers. Trouble is it will vary depending on area. Evri in my area is brilliant, no issues. Same with Royal Mail. DPD on the other hand are appalling and I absolutely would avoid buying anything from a company that used them if I knew in advance.

concertinacornflake · 01/07/2026 15:02

Yes I agree, it's really annoying and avoiding certain couriers is definitely worth doing.

NellieJean · 01/07/2026 15:02

Absolutely. Round here Royal Mail works well because we have a brilliant postman and DHL is always great, they give a one hour slot and stick to it.

JoshLymanSwagger · 01/07/2026 15:03

John Lewis?

Mine arrived by Evri today - they used to use Royal Mail.

My problem was delivery was supposed to be on Friday, then apparently tomorrow - so imagine my surprise when a van turned up at 9.15 as I was going out...5 more minutes and who knows...🤦🏻‍♀️

Edited - DPD, UPS and DHL are pretty good. RM turns up when they feel like it. I try to avoid EVRI and Amazon.

Sartre · 01/07/2026 15:06

I find Evri is area dependent. We had a really amazing Evri driver for years then he suddenly left and we got a wanker who actually stole cash I’d left out around the back under a brick for the bin cleaner. I complained and I presume he was fired or at least moved areas, had a few others since and they’ve all been fine. I think maybe two parcels haven’t turned up in 8 years.

I don’t really have a big issue with any couriers in particular. RM have only been delivering letters including my DS’s magazines once a fortnight for the best part of a year which is frustrating.

VickyEadie · 01/07/2026 15:08

Absolutely agree - I'm fed up of Evri leaving parcels leaning against the front door, not even bothering to ring the doorbell and claiming it was "handed to resident".

Our posties, however, are brilliant. Yesterday, an unexpected bottle of champers sent by a friend as a late birthday present couldn't be delivered as we'd popped out and it needed a signature; they left a card saying they'd try the next day. An hour after we got back, the softball rang and postie said, we'd finished the parcel deliveries and were driving by when I spotted your car was back!"
