To think that retailers should be forced to tell us who they are using as couriers BEFORE we commit to buying something?

Yes this is a first world problem but I am really hacked off that yet again - and for the second time in ten days - Evri has failed to deliver my parcel. I try to avoid them and these two orders were with retailers who usually use Royal Mail (also useless, but at least they have regulators who at least notice that they CBA to deliver on time), so those retailers must have switched to Evri.

Surely it can't be unreasonable to expect the opportunity to see who will be handling the parcel and say 'no thanks'?

No... believe me, I know where to look as I detest (N)Evri ... they just dont state who the courier is. Unless it 24/48 hr Royal Mail or DPD.

I don’t not believe you, I just said I think most state the info. Unfortunately for OP she’s using m&s who use a mix of Royal Mail and evri according to Google

WideOpenBeaches · 03/07/2026 13:06

I moved a couple of miles and went from a terrible Evri courier to a brilliant one.
I think it depends on your area.

Arimatata · 03/07/2026 13:08

I knew this would be about Evri. They are useless. It’s hard to understand why retailers use them.

Backedoffhackedoff · 03/07/2026 13:08

But they obviously need the flexibility to use other couriers based on demand? Ie Royal Mail actually deliver over capacity for Amazon, they don’t tell you they might do this.

That. My latest Amazon order was given to Evri, which is unusual. It's almost always Amazon delivery.

However our Evri guy is a superstar, and even though I had a message from Evri at 9pm to say 'sorry, it'll now be tomorrow' he turned up at 9:30pm with my parcel! He's been delivering for my address for several years, and our local Facebook page is regularly full of praise for him.

Wtafdidido · 03/07/2026 15:21

Where I live Royal Mail is a sack of shit. Inpost/Yodel cannot deliver within their target time period and Evri do a fantastic job! So yes because service varies so widely depending on location I think the buyer should be able to choose which provider their packages are sent via and refuse a courier that is crap.

Overtheatlantic · 03/07/2026 15:25

Called N’evri in my house. Although yesterday the Royal Mail sent me an email that they had tried to deliver a parcel but I wasn’t in…. I was sitting on my sofa next to the front door the entire time.

CrispySquid · 03/07/2026 15:29

I completely agree! I don't WFH so it's helpful to know if it's Royal Mail so I know I know I can book a redelivery for a Saturday when I'm in or pick up from the Royal Mail collecting office nearby. Same with Evri. I can redirect to my local Everi Parcelshop for free if they deliver on a weekday and I'm not in.

Less/no options for Saturday redelivery or diversion to a nearby shop if DHL or DPD is the courier so it would be handy to avoid stores who have these as couriers.

suburburban · 03/07/2026 15:43

I’m lucky Evri and RM are good where I am

Musicaltheatremum · 03/07/2026 15:55

I agree, my Persil is still in a warehouse in west Lothian...from 2 months ago....thanks Evri!

BergamotAndCoconut · 03/07/2026 16:00

Completely agree. Our (most recent of a long line with gaps in between) Evri guy announced to me on 19th Dec that he was off on holiday until 30th Dec.... parcels would have to wait till then (fortunately I'd already switched to collection for other things). And then a few months ago his car broke down and was scrapped, so he asked people on the round via FB to give him money for a new car, and would you believe they did! Over £1k.... I could not believe how they all thought he was some sort of charity delivering parcels for the good of the people...
Anyway, he's quit now.

This is what I don’t understand why are sellers using evri if they don’t actually deliver?
I’ve been waiting for lavender water and it keeps getting pushed back. I know eventually they’ll say it’s gone missing.

smoothieooo · 03/07/2026 16:03

I didn't realise you could pick your courier on Vinted! Evri have lost my parcel after saying it's been delayed, delayed a bit more the missing from the penultimate depot (a really nice, bargain top from Mint Velvet). I have to wait until 15 July to claim for it.

DollopOfFun · 03/07/2026 16:11

Yes it depends on the delivery person/area, which is why it would be handy if retailers gave a choice (like Vinted) or at least told you upfront (so you could choose a pick up point, or not order).

Our Evri driver is an absolute tool, you are fortunate if he at least lobs your parcel from within 15 feet. The good thing is that you can hear his shite car music from a mile away, so if you're home, you can at least be on the doorstep to try and catch it.

In the next village, the Evri driver is a superstar, answering messages on the FB page, and just generally being helpful.

Beesclover · 03/07/2026 16:42

Yes, I agree entirely. Evri are absolutely hopeless. I've pinned my home location in their app, and my packages still get delivered to the wrong property. This is bearing in mind that the nearest house to ours is over half a mile away. Their drivers just cba to do their job. I avoid buying from any company that uses Evri.

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 03/07/2026 16:56

I've stopped ordering things online to be delivered to my house as it's just too much hassle.

Apparently that doesn't stop parcels being dumped on my doorstep with my address on but not my name. Customer service for senders is useless. I live on my own and hate opening the door to find a parcel that's not mine sitting there. It puts me and my house at risk but apparently I worry too much.

Orangemintcream · 03/07/2026 17:09

Years ago Evri marked an expensive parcel as delivered when it wasn’t - only after I complained to the store did it miraculously turn up with no explanation whatsoever.

Lost my arse. Deliberate fudging of deliveries to make it look like more had been done for the £££ more like.

But Yodeal outdid them - they said they had left my parcel “in the porch”. I did not have a porch. That house has never had a porch. They had left it on the pavement outside the house then lied about it.

Suppose you’d not get away with either now as they have to take a photo and I fully expect this sort of thing is why.

Couldn't agree more.
That company had to change its name in attempt to cleanse its reputation.

Preworkouttingle · 03/07/2026 17:13

I see your Evri and raise you…. DX Delivery. Enjoy your 3 week old parcel it comes with free pigeon shit from the warehouse.😫

lottiegarbanzo · 03/07/2026 17:14

Agree

RaraRachael · 03/07/2026 17:14

Evri are excellent in my area, Yodel are passable. Amazon are hit and miss.
I won't order from any company that rips me off trying to charge extortionate rates for 'Highlands and Islands " when I live in neither. There's no point trying to explain because they invariably haven't a clue where I am.

I had the same thing. I didn’t know it would be delivered by Evri, because the company passed delivery to a third party, who then passed it to Evri.

When I tried to check the Evri website to see the proof of delivery it claimed they had, it told me the postcode I was inputting was wrong and wouldn’t allow me to go any further. When I complained to the third party, it miraculously turned out it hadn’t been delivered and was instead returned to the supplier. Infuriating.

Megsdaughter · 03/07/2026 18:16

We have no problem with Evri nor Royal Mail. But anything big that has to come by Arrowxl is gaurenteed not to turn up first delivery. I have a message stream with them featuring their last 5 deliveries to me when they have failed to deliver.

Not quite the same, but the situation I have found myself in twice in the last month is where I thought I was ordering from someone in the UK - .co.uk URL, apparently UK address, courier name I recognise - only to discover when the tracking info starts that the item I ordered is starting it's journey in China. The named courier is only for the last bit of the journey.

I am currently waiting on such a parcel. The website said Royal Mail used for delivery but clearly it has to get here from China first.

Yes, I got caught out by this.

If ordering from Amazon now, I check the suppliers details before ordering. I they are not UK based I don't order it.

I know everything probably originates from outside the UK, sadly, but at least if it's coming from a UK based supplier my money is going to a UK based supplier who employs people in the UK. It's not going direct to a Chinese company and not benefiting our economy.

I know that's a bit simplistic, but it's how I feel.

InterestedDad37 · 03/07/2026 18:35

Evri has always worked well for me, as has Amazon (though one Christmas I got someone else's parcel x2), and Royal Mail is great.
But I simply won't buy from any company that uses FedEx! Absolutely useless, made up attempts to deliver, tried to send me 40 miles away to pick it up - never again!

You can't always find out, but I Google 'who do Company X use for deliveries?' and you can usually get an answer.
