To find Wimbledon a complete Borefest

Just that. Nearly everyone I know is glued to their TVs for hours watching Wimbledon. Its sooooo boring. And the voice of the presenter always gets on my. neves. Am I the only one in the country who hates it. And the noise of the ball bat bat bat.

I don’t really watch TV and don’t watch any sport. DH though watches all sport. He plays tennis and watches every grand slam throughout the season.

I find it boring, but he likes it. He even gets
up from in front of the TV, rushes to wherever I am and excitedly tells me the score, who’s won and how brilliant or not they all are. My response - silence!

At the moment it’s -
Cricket
World Cup (the only football he watches is the World Cup)
Tennis
F1

It has to be not good for your health watching all this sport, it’s so sedentary.

And don’t get me started on the inane commentary. In fact that makes me more angry than the boredom I feel about watching sport.

Your response is silence? So your husband is excited about something and your not willing to even chat to him about it.

That's cold

Don’t like watching it on tv but I imagine going would be a nice experience

Going is great.

You dont get commentators! You can move matches (to some degree). You can soak up the atmosphere.

StrictlyCoffee · 30/06/2026 22:36

I’m not a fan really, but it’s easy enough to avoid.

My silence is all part of the fun! His excitement and enthusiasm for something he knows I am not interested is in itself a double act.

I am actually laughing. What am I supposed to say when he rushes up to me to tell me again how brilliant, how fantastic, how incredible and unbelievable Djokovic is for the umpteenth time?

How brilliant, fantastic, incredible and unbelievable Ben Stokes is for the hundredth time.

Shall I go on?

We meet in the middle though because he has little interest in politics and that is where I get on my soapbox. And he just listens.

Viviennemary · 30/06/2026 22:38

And Pointless cancelled as well earlier. It's an outrage.

At least it's only on for two weeks a year.

I find football boring as fuck, and it seems to be on tv all the sodding time, especially this year.

Jellybelly66 · 30/06/2026 22:43

100% agree

HobgoblinNorFoulFiend · 30/06/2026 22:45

Why O why O why can’t there be a separate (free) channel for sports?

This year being a world cup year. There's a correlation there I think 🤔.

Shock horror - different people enjoy different things. I love tennis and cricket, like rugby union, but find football and most other sports deathly boring.

Are we all supposed to start threads to ensure other posters know there are things we don’t like? Isn’t it just easier not to engage with things you don’t want to, and let others get on and enjoy the things they prefer? it’d be a strange old world if we were all clones. Personal preferences are part of personality.

I like the same sports as you, but I also like MotoGP.

It seems to defy the laws of phsyics: it just shouldn't be possible to lean a motorbike over so far that the riders get their shoulder onto the track, at 200 mph.

UnintentionalArcher · 30/06/2026 22:54

I don’t love it but have developed more patience for it as I’ve got older, and can now occasionally get into a match. I prefer it to football, which I find hard to concentrate on over ninety minutes, though there are sometimes exciting moments.

I generally prefer racing-based sports like swimming and athletics. Personally these are more interesting to me because they represent the pinnacle of physical speed and/or endurance and are about what an individual can achieve as opposed to multiple team members relying upon one another. I just like watching who can get from A to B fastest. I find them simpler, and more satisfying. It’s probably not a coincidence that these were my main sports growing up - but equally I was probably attracted to them as a child for the same reasons.

SqueakyFromme · 30/06/2026 22:57

Usually it is, but Cliff had appeared this year. It’s too much for my blood pressure I must say

How would it be funded? It wouldn’t be free!

TallSturdyGirls · 30/06/2026 23:03

Tonissister · 30/06/2026 11:36

I cannot get excited about other grown-ups playing with a ball. Not lots of men being grossly overpaid to kick a ball across some grass, or two to four people knocking a small ball over a net. It staggers me that people find this interesting. Being the person playing with a ball might be mildly amusing. But watching strangers do it? Why?

Total agreement OP.

There's loads of things on TV that are equally dull for me. Shows with plastic people pretending to find love. Shows with plastic people locked in houses together. Shows with celebrities doing the same dull things that normal do in other dull Shows.
Endless dramas of women being killed in increasingly vile ways. Soaps where people seem to shout, die and shag about a lot.

I just let people watch the above and don't pass comment (unless they slag off my beloved sport!)

mondaytosunday · 30/06/2026 23:07

Meh you like or don’t. I’m sure plenty are saying the same about the football.

HobgoblinNorFoulFiend · 30/06/2026 23:17

@Allseeingallknowing @Jc2001 To be honest I don’t really care, I’ve successfully broken my tv habit and now although we have all the channels I only switch it on for a couple of things ever. But I have friends who only have Freeview and they really struggle when it’s endless football, then tennis then running and on and on. I just thought if it was all on one channel everyone could watch what they wanted 🤷‍♀️

piscofrisco · 30/06/2026 23:26

I loathe it. And tennis in general tbh. It’s just so very rarely interesting in any way. And Wimbledon is sort of cultish in the way people bang on about it. My mum won’t answer her phone for two weeks now because she is watching Wimbledon. She’s never played tennis in her life and yet suddenly she is obsessed with it. Sam’e every year. Does my head in.

Whataflippincircus · 30/06/2026 23:31

I love it. I’ve watched it every year for years.

tsmainsqueeze · 30/06/2026 23:36

I can't think of much worse than sitting in a big box of wall to wall people in direct sunlight, trussed up in a big dress watching tennis .
I would absolutely die of boredom.

He must have pretty poor social skills to keep telling you about subjects he can see you can't even be bothered to feign interest in!

Beetrootfrizz · 30/06/2026 12:02

I look forward to it every year and absolutely love it! There were two thrilling matches yesterday where Sinner and Djokovic battled through against much lower ranked players. It was anything but boring!!

I agree! I don't watch any other sport but I love tennis because it's so basic - a face to face battle of two (or four) opponents to the end. It's a battle of strength, stamina, tactics, skill, ingenuity and the great thing with tennis is there's never a point in a match that one player or side "can't win now" - until match point is won it really can be either side's match. With other sports there's time limits or there aren't enough points left available but that's not the case with tennis.

louderthan · 01/07/2026 00:42

Yabvu. I absolutely love it, but I follow tennis year round, watch all the slams and the Masters tournaments.
The early rounds are far from boring if you know a bit about the players and what their stories have been throughout the season.
It’s only on the BBC, I can’t get my head round people whining about it when there are many many other terrestrial/freeview/paid channels available, as well as streaming/DVDs/backgammon/Monopoly etc if you don’t want to watch tennis.
I dunno, it’s almost like there’s an abundance of consumer choice or something.
