Just that. Nearly everyone I know is glued to their TVs for hours watching Wimbledon. Its sooooo boring. And the voice of the presenter always gets on my. neves. Am I the only one in the country who hates it. And the noise of the ball bat bat bat.

OP posts:

yes dull as dishwater

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 30/06/2026 18:05

I used to be glued to it, when there was anybody I really wanted to win. But the last time that happened was IIRC with Goran Ivanesevic. And the female player who was runner up one year, was in tears and got a hug from the Duchess of Kent. I was so pleased when she finally won it.

Nowadays I can take it or leave it (usually leave it) but can’t say the same for dh, who was glued to the centre court match until 10 pm last night.

GobletofFury · 30/06/2026 18:28

Why on earth do you need people to decide whether you are being unreasonable?

You don't enjoy watching tennis. What is unreasonable about that?

I find cricket boring, but I don't need to ask anyone whether I am being unreasonable for this, I just don't watch it. People like different things.

Agree OP. Deeply tedious. And John McEnroe really grinds my gears. Petulant player who should not be rewarded with lucrative commentary work.

I'm a tennis fan, but I hear ya on Mac. Shoulda been pensioned off years ago, he's just repeating himself.

I look forward to it every year and absolutely love it! There were two thrilling matches yesterday where Sinner and Djokovic battled through against much lower ranked players. It was anything but boring!!

Exactly. Sports exciting because it's unscripted. I tend to think people who state they hate all sport are actually the boring ones.
Leave them to their scummy soap operas and Love Island .

sohard · 30/06/2026 19:19

I look forward to Wimbledon every year. Love it!

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 30/06/2026 19:22

I don’t even know how they do the scoring, that’s how uninterested I am. Never, ever watch it 🤷🏼‍♀️

ObelixtheGaul · 30/06/2026 19:28

I used to very much enjoy watching Wimbledon and although it dominates the BBC, it is only two weeks of the year, unlike other sports. In recent years I’ve become far less interested and I think it’s because there are no interesting characters any more. I get that it’s their profession and a multi million pound business, but they’re all so clinical and boring. The personalities of the past are no longer.

Got to admit, I have never been a big watcher of much sport in general, but I found the 'tennis brat' drama entertaining. To be fair, if it happened now, I wonder if it would all seem a bit staged to create drama.

Perhaps it always was. Maybe somebody said, 'people are getting a bit bored by this. John McEnroe is a lovely chap, why don't we ask him to chuck a racquet or two. We could give him a catchphrase, something snappy, like, I don't know, 'you cannot be serious', perhaps? After all, they do it in wresting. Hey, they could have character names like , 'nasty Nastase...'

Auburngal · 30/06/2026 19:54

I call it Bloody Wimbledon. Tennis is a boring sport.
Hated Wimbledon as a kid as that stopped showing Neighbours.

Also living in Leicestershire, we broke up around now as had the Leicestershire fortnight. Before annual leave, various factories (all gone) closed fully for two weeks. So meant people could go on holiday. Usually to Skegness. So the kids summer tv didn’t start until mid July after Bloody Wimbledon finished

PickAChew · 30/06/2026 19:56

Your TV has an off button, I presume.

Sartre · 30/06/2026 19:58

Agree, it just isn’t my thing. I enjoy the Winter Olympics sometimes but that’s as far as my spectatorship goes with sports. They’re all a bit dry for me.

BauhausOfEliott · 30/06/2026 20:00

Harsh of the BBC not to tailor its output solely to your specific personal preferences, but I expect you’ll survive by employing the innovative solution of simply watching something else during the two hours weeks a year when there’s some tennis on.

takingitdown · 30/06/2026 12:04

This is such a boring criticism

Yeah It's amazing how much effort some people put into not liking something rather than not watching or engaging with it.

There are so many channels and ways of watching TV, it's so easy to ignore something if you don't like it.

the80sweregreat · 30/06/2026 20:51

It’s easier to avoid the sport now as many more channels to chose from or watch u tube. I know some tv channels you have to pay for, but it also easier to swerve the summer sports.
When the Olympics was on I used to turn it off and put music on instead or the radio.

canthavetoomanylights · 30/06/2026 20:53

A million times better than football

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 30/06/2026 20:54

Boring and elitist

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 30/06/2026 20:54

It's brilliant 😂

the80sweregreat · 30/06/2026 21:00

I agree that tennis is elitist. You hear a lot about working class footballers , but rarely anyone from Tennis.
I don’t think the Williams sisters were rich , but their dad spurred them on. In the UK it’s still seen as a sport for those with money for coaches and equipment or maybe parents involved with the local club ( like Jenny Murray was )
It feels harder to get into than football is.

EarthlyNightshade · 30/06/2026 21:01

I love it!

It's easier to hate things than to love them so it does not surprise me that YANBU is winning.

VaxMerstappen · 30/06/2026 21:02

Never got the appeal of tennis. Goes on for bloody hours, and it's just people hitting a ball back and forth. I'm sorry, such an activity shouldn't take 3,4 5 or more hours to complete. How does anyone have the patience to watch that?

Cricket is even more boring and goes on for days. Then The Ashes is the trophy with the smallest trophy amount of hours place ratio.

True. Most ball sports are boring as sin and go on for far too long, tbh.

TheChosenTwo · 30/06/2026 21:20

I’m not into the tennis so would never watch it - I’d be bored to tears. Thankfully my tv has many many channels!

I find it very soothing to nap to - the regular noises are great background noise.

MNLurker1345 · 30/06/2026 22:03

I don’t really watch TV and don’t watch any sport. DH though watches all sport. He plays tennis and watches every grand slam throughout the season.

I find it boring, but he likes it. He even gets
up from in front of the TV, rushes to wherever I am and excitedly tells me the score, who’s won and how brilliant or not they all are. My response - silence!

At the moment it’s -
Cricket
World Cup (the only football he watches is the World Cup)
Tennis
F1

It has to be not good for your health watching all this sport, it’s so sedentary.

And don’t get me started on the inane commentary. In fact that makes me more angry than the boredom I feel about watching sport.
