Just that. Nearly everyone I know is glued to their TVs for hours watching Wimbledon. Its sooooo boring. And the voice of the presenter always gets on my. neves. Am I the only one in the country who hates it. And the noise of the ball bat bat bat.

I love Wimbledon fortnight. It's the only sporting event I enjoy and watch.

Soooo boring. I don't even switch it on.

Brainstorm23 · 30/06/2026 12:36

It's the fact the presentation style / visual language of it hasn't changed in decades which annoys me. It's a rally which ends in a winner shown in vertical format.

They'll then replay the winner in slow motion. Then they'll be a slow motion replay of the winning player doing a fist pump or some other exaggerated celebration. Then they'll cut to the players box for a shot of stern looking blokes in baseball caps and the players family.

Then a cut to a random old tennis player followed by a celebrity who "loves their tennis". All the while Andrew Castle is wittering on and mangling all the players names. Repeat endlessly for two weeks.

I cannot get excited about other grown-ups playing with a ball. Not lots of men being grossly overpaid to kick a ball across some grass, or two to four people knocking a small ball over a net. It staggers me that people find this interesting. Being the person playing with a ball might be mildly amusing. But watching strangers do it? Why?

Total agreement OP.

Some things don’t need explaining. The fact millions of people watch support on telly around the world tells you that there are a lot of people who like watching other people play sports and as sports have a lot of consumers, those who play make a lot of money. So not really overpaid. They entertain the world. If you have a talent like that, you can also make that kind of money.

Don’t like watching it on tv but I imagine going would be a nice experience

Yes, it’s incredible going 😊

TheGriffle · 30/06/2026 13:18

I hate Wimbledon after a childhood of it on my television every year and my mum being practically unavailable for the whole two weeks!

DD is going with her school this week, not because she likes tennis, but I wanted her to have the experience of going there, the crowds, the excitement etc and when she’s older she can say she’s been to Wimbledon. I’ve primed her to eat strawberries and cream and to try and buy a tennis ball used the day before as I heard on tv they sell them the next day.

Shatteredallthetimelately · 30/06/2026 13:19

Not my cup of tea, neither is the world cup.

But others that can't get to see them live look forward to these events being televised.

Mischance · 30/06/2026 13:21

I love it!
But the football is a blight ... I have never in my entire life watched a match!

Why don't you try it? Maybe pick a local team and go along. It might give you an understanding of why other people love it, even if you don't.

ExtraOnions · 30/06/2026 14:03

With the red button being available, I do think it should just be on one channel at a time

Urgentnc · 30/06/2026 14:06

Boomer55 · 30/06/2026 11:33

I’m lucky - I love football, tennis, rugby and cricket - so great for me at the moment.

On the other hand, I hate soap operas, and these reality shows, so I just avoid them and just watch something else. 🤷‍♀️

Same here. Had a real dilemma last night deciding whether to watch Djokovic or the football .

IceLollly · 30/06/2026 14:10

I only like the Olympics. All other sport is boring.
DH endlessly talks to me about the football (I don’t care) my BIL messages me about whether I’m happy/sad about how England are doing in the WC, he doesn’t believe after 30 years I don’t watch it/I couldn’t give a shit.

WhatAMarvelousTune · 30/06/2026 14:12

Am I the only one in the country who hates it

Yes. You’re very unique and special.

the80sweregreat · 30/06/2026 14:14

I used to like it and the tennis thread on here is good fun, but I’ve not been that fussed these past few days plus hardly any Brit’s are left and I don’t know who many of them are.
I agree that the tv channels should put everything on one channel ( or a special channel ) as it’s not fair on people who don’t like it and I noticed it’s wall to wall sport the next few weeks. The other channels are pretty dire too, just repeats mostly. You don’t get any good or new programmes on till the autumn unless you pay for Netflix etc.

TonTonMacoute · 30/06/2026 14:15

Me too. I find tennis the most boring sport on the planet, and football a close second. A Wimbledon/World Cup double whammy is a it of a nightmare scenario.

MyArtfulGreySloth · 30/06/2026 14:15

Totally agree

My dm sends me messages about the football too. She has been told countless times that i couldn't care less about football.

cupfinalchaos · 30/06/2026 17:43

Totally agree and I have to go with dh every year!! It does seem like everyone loves watching sport be it tennis or the World Cup. So fed up and to add insult to injury I get called spoilt for saying I don’t want to go!

Ihateboris · 30/06/2026 17:44

You're not alone. I just don't get the hype.

Miranda65 · 30/06/2026 17:48

I love it, and I go there in person, and I watch tennis all year round.
But the point is to look at how many TV channels/streamers there are these days.... I don't like football, but I haven't seen a single ball of the World Cup, it just hasn't impinged at all. Use your power of choice, OP, and watch some of the many other options available to you.

LesSanglotsLonguesDesViolonsDAutomne · 30/06/2026 17:52

Shock horror - different people enjoy different things. I love tennis and cricket, like rugby union, but find football and most other sports deathly boring.

Are we all supposed to start threads to ensure other posters know there are things we don’t like? Isn’t it just easier not to engage with things you don’t want to, and let others get on and enjoy the things they prefer? it’d be a strange old world if we were all clones. Personal preferences are part of personality.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 30/06/2026 17:58

I love the tennis!

PrimeSeason · 30/06/2026 18:00

Hard agree. It makes literally no difference to my life who wins or loses. Has no affect on my life at all so why should I care.
