Bums hanging out of the bottom of teeny tiny shorts

Don’t know if this really AIBU or a question!
AIBU to think that shorts have become way too short ?
I have seen a LOT of girls in shorts today - with their bum cheeks hanging out the bottom ! Personally I wouldn’t let my daughter out like that. And I wouldn’t were them myself (I would give everyone nightmares !).
so what’s the consensus on bums hanging out of shorts ?

Are you usually attracted to women?

That's not what she's saying, and you know it. They're frigging ugly.

I think a lot of teenage girls are quite naive about men. When I was young none of us thought a 15 year old having a 20 year old boyfriend was weird. We would have had no idea how many men watch "barely legal" or "step daughter" porn. It all went over our heads.

To be fair, online porn wasn't around until the early 2000s. There's evidence Pornhub etc have tried to push stuff like stepdaughter which isn't want most men usually search for- at least initially...

But too many men have sadly always harassed underage girls. And I think some teen girls are away of that : after all, many women report getting the most hassle when young & in school uniform.

'Female stars nowadays' eh? I assume you haven't seen a photo of any female pop stars since the 1950s if you are shocked by contemporary stage attire and that you have never heard of a popular singer called Madonna who had a few hits from the 80s onwards!
Seriously though, as someone who is a huge fan of many of the artists you name, particularly my queen, Taylor Swift, I think this is a gross and unfair characterisation of these talented women. Female pop stars of today are far more likely to write their own music, play multiple instruments and have a much greater level of control over their image and careers than was typically the case in times gone by. Yes, Sabrina Carpenter dresses saucily on stage, but she is a grown woman and her image in keeping with her fun, catchy and frequently cheeky music.
As for Taylor, yes, as part of the epic Eras tour shows, comprising three to four hours of extraordinary and often gruelling choreography, and dazzling sets and costume changes, some of her outfits were more skimpy than others, but completely suitable for a professional dancer to where while engaging in energetic and complex choreography. Did you want her to wear a full length ballgown throughout the whole show? She does in fact where some long flowing outfits as part of her dazzling and extensive array of stage outfits, but she can hardly be expected to do so for the whole show! People often comment on what a classy dresser TS is off-stage, so she seems like a weird subject for your ire. Not that I think it should matter how any woman chooses to dress, famous or not, as long as they are happy.

Feminism will never be 100% successful while the world is full of women judging other women, it’s fucking depressing

None of your business what others wear. I wouldn’t wear shorts anyway but I don’t care what others do.

MN loves to judge other women’s choices. And there will be comments about fanny flaps etc. I am genuinely amazed that people get to adulthood without realising people can dress how they like

No, it's not that MN loves to judge other women's choices, it's that we all love to judge other people's choices, and MN is an anonymous forum where we can discuss it openly.

Loving all the comments suggesting women wear these for men only - erm, there has been a heatwave going on, it is summer... But no, can't be the only reason, right? The lesbians are clearly not really gay either.

Most lesbians don't dress like this, revealing bums etc. It's almost wholly something girls who are trying to attract boys do : an extreme reaction to the fact boys are more visually triggered sexually, generally speaking. Same reason some gay men dress really skimpily.

I'm in my sixties. This is a look that comes and goes. I remember it in the 1970s.

I'm in my 60s as well, and no one showed their bum cheeks.

“Male gaze” doesn’t mean they are specifically wearing them for men.
It means that these clothes are designed to be sexually appealing.

Thats why they don’t look “right” on middle aged women, because to the patriarchy we are no longer sexual beings.
It’s the difference between being top less or. at a nudist beach and wearing a tiny high cut thong bikini. Naked is not as sexy as a outfit highlighting your genitalia.

The point I am making is that people who are wearing this generally don't care - everyone here bitching about some of them not having the "right figure" for them and that they must be upset that "people on the internet are bitching about them" - really? Do people really think people will be so sad to learn that judgemental prudes they never met don't like the way they look? Pfft. Some of you clearly have had very strict rules on your own joy. It is so boring to see the same worn arguments about everything women do to make themselves cool, feel good, comfortable etc etc being only FOR MEN.

Still waiting for someone to explain why they have the right to police the clothing of strangers just because they don’t like it.

I was on a train recently and there were toddler twins in a buggy and they were covered in snot. It made me feel a bit queasy so I looked away. All sorted.✔️

But why would a young woman not be bothered by a much older man looking at her in a sexual way? That does not make any sense.

They might not mind at all, may find it amusing.

DD bought a pair for holiday from Subdued that are super short at the front but slightly longer at the back so no cheek. They look great. She hates the cheek showing so chose them herself but they might be a good compromise for mums battling with their DDs over how short their shorts are! I think it’s these ones: https://www.subdued.com/uk_en/pc06grq

Low waist shorts

Low-rise shorts, back pockets with buttons, belt loops at the waist, button and zipper closure, regular length, slim fit.

Why did you get so close? Why not leave a few steps empty?

Dumb comment.

Those aren't anything like what we're talking about.

So the solution is for more people to dress like porn stars?

It is silly, and they are silly, but large numbers of the public have no self-awareness or individual thought process.

'large numbers of the public have no self-awareness or individual thought process' . Yes, I think that's generally true.

They’re fine!

My sister wore very short shorts in the 1980s with her bum cheeks on show. My figure was much better but I hated the trend then and I still do. You can wear what you want. I can and will still judge you for your awful taste.

Perhaps it offends public decency

Then it’s a criminal matter
