Bums hanging out of the bottom of teeny tiny shorts

Don’t know if this really AIBU or a question!
AIBU to think that shorts have become way too short ?
I have seen a LOT of girls in shorts today - with their bum cheeks hanging out the bottom ! Personally I wouldn’t let my daughter out like that. And I wouldn’t were them myself (I would give everyone nightmares !).
so what’s the consensus on bums hanging out of shorts ?

I have never come across a topless woman who has her breasts out anywhere but the beach.
Shops shouldn’t have to display the sign, it should be crime to walk around topless, including while driving a van.

Im not talking about topless women, simply notices about what people wear

Well I thought it was obvious I was simply referring to notices about what people wear and the appropriateness of that. I wasnt suggesting its like for like and that its about women being topless. Its about there never being any notices about what women wear, yet some women (and now girls) wear very revealing and sexualised items.

Not sure I follow. You complain about signs asking men and not women to put shirts on when men and not women go shirtless but you're not suggesting some kind of like for like comparison?

At any rate this hideous trend of naked arses in shops and pubs is pretty new. Hopefully it'll die a swift death (sunburned bums?). If it goes on long enough, shops etc will probably switch to signs saying they have the right to eject anyone who's not dressed appropriately. There are definitely a lot more shirtless men than women with their bums out.

Bar owners want them on the premises for obvious reasons, they might not admit it but it is good for business, men with tops off are generally looking for a fight so they are obviously discouraged because that is bad for business.

"Women get to choose which men they want to be attracted to them "

You mean choose who they go out with? If a man isn"t attracted no amount of choosing will change that.

Yes. I thought it was blimmin' obvious that we were working on the assumption that the man is willing since the complaint was about women liking attention when it comes from men they like as opposed to men they don't. 'Of Course' men don't have to be attracted to or date anyone either but I really didn't think I had to explain that too.

Flaming Nora.

I agree people should wear what they want but within reason.
When I see these young girls walking around with their cheeks hanging out and then the men, young men, old men looking at them knowing exactly what’s going through their minds it makes me feel quite sick. Doesn’t take much imagination.
No way would I want my daughter being thought about like that.

If that's your concern, then why do so many teenage girls and young women not share that same concern?

Ok, fair enough.

Good point, because they obviously don"t give a flying toss about that concern do they?

Because they’re young, rebellious, and they know what effect it has, but they don’t care?

As many other posters have said though unless you are the "Daisy Duke" type it isn"t having the desired effect, people are making fun of them on the internet now? It is the lack of reality filter that is the fascinating part really, a bit like a fat bald bloke on the beach with a hankie tied round his head thinking he looks like Jason Statham?

But why would a young woman not be bothered by a much older man looking at her in a sexual way? That does not make any sense.

Really surprised Gloriia hasn’t rocked up all guns blazing to obsessively focus on how appalling the language is used be a few

I hate it. But I also think women should wear what they like. But I also think it’s for the male gaze. But I also… what can you do?

I don't think anyone should have their bum like that. There need to be basic dress standards. Men shouldn't be able to wear whatever they want, either. If a gay man wore shorts like that to appeal to men, that would also be unacceptable .

RebeccaRedhat · Today 19:24

My daughters classmates wear them. Some of them are still only 9!

Brings to mind the 80"s TV show, Mini Pops, quickly cancelled after complaints but there is a line and beyond that line things just get very odd and creepy.

Gosh I remember the days when my Dad accused me of trying to get out of the house without remembering to put my skirt on - his way of telling me my skirt was about as long as a belt!

Sadly, three children and 4 decades later I have neither the confidence or the size 8 body to dare to wear anything that left so little to the imagination. But if I still had both, I'd be wearing teeny-tiny shorts if I wanted to.

Loving all the comments suggesting women wear these for men only - erm, there has been a heatwave going on, it is summer... But no, can't be the only reason, right? The lesbians are clearly not really gay either.

“Male gaze” doesn’t mean they are specifically wearing them for men.
It means that these clothes are designed to be sexually appealing.

Thats why they don’t look “right” on middle aged women, because to the patriarchy we are no longer sexual beings.
It’s the difference between being top less or. at a nudist beach and wearing a tiny high cut thong bikini. Naked is not as sexy as a outfit highlighting your genitalia.

I think YABU to be this bothered by a child’s bum

Really? We're not talking about pre-pubescent children at the beach/park or in their garden!

Please do elaborate on 'a certain type of woman'.

I'd like to know as well!😅

Yes, really. Teenagers are still children.

Lesbians don't in my experience (bi) tend to wear revealing clothing like that, including in settings where they're trying to attract someone.

Whereas gay men are more likely to. No one should wear clothing showing bums etc but part of this is due to people trying to attract men (women and gay men) being more likely to wear revealing stuff as men's attraction is more visually triggered (many exceptions ofc)

they are disgusting, sitting their butt cheeks everywhere in public.

I think a lot of teenage girls are quite naive about men. When I was young none of us thought a 15 year old having a 20 year old boyfriend was weird. We would have had no idea how many men watch "barely legal" or "step daughter" porn. It all went over our heads.

I've said several times that it's a horrid fashion but it absolutely does not give people like you carte blanche to call them merchandise. They're guilty of wearing something tasteless and inappropriate and many of them are too young to really know any better. You are sexually deriding them and declaring them objects for sale because you don't like it, and that's worse, plus you have no excuse.

I knew better at that age! But of course parents may have given a bad example, also peer pressure & social media.
