Bums hanging out of the bottom of teeny tiny shorts

Don’t know if this really AIBU or a question!
AIBU to think that shorts have become way too short ?
I have seen a LOT of girls in shorts today - with their bum cheeks hanging out the bottom ! Personally I wouldn’t let my daughter out like that. And I wouldn’t were them myself (I would give everyone nightmares !).
so what’s the consensus on bums hanging out of shorts ?

If you're not attracted to women, why would you care so much?

Also, I didn't ask you, why are you so offended?

I am not offended, just digusted with the implications of the question.

And on a public forum anyone can answer, you must be new to this.

JuliettaCaeser · Today 00:16

Of all the things there are in the world to worry about strangers fashion choices are pretty low down the list.

JuliettaCaeser · Today 00:18

It’s hardly a new thing either is it? 1960s?! Anyone remember the 90s lambada craze? A certain type of woman has always tutted about young girls outfits

Good points, there must be horrible pressure if you don"t fit the body standards that so many are obsessed with now, as someone said earlier, it is like feminism never happened, but it is young girls who are turning back the clock not men, the slight twist is that they are doing it to assert sexual power and dominance over men (and to compete with other girls) the problem is though that if your whole self worth is based on how many people are checking out your arse you are going to have problems adjusting to areas of life where a personality is required?

😂 when you say it like that, it is very odd. It's like saying, lads I can wear whatever I want and you can't stop me so I'm going to parade around with my butt cheeks hanging out. But if you comment on it or come on to me too aggressively, it's game over for you. Ya, I think gender dominance is a part of it alright. I hope they are actually wearing it for themselves like they say

narcASD · Today 00:21

I don't like it, no need for everyone to see your arse, same with topless men, put it away

LancashireButterPie · Today 00:26

I think it's lovely that women in the UK can wear whatever they like without judgement.......oh wait.

Do you mean these. Then I agree these are a bit much to be wearing round aldi 🤣🤣

Those are going to need a boil wash... 😬

TrishM80 · Today 01:26

Unfortunately, feminism has somehow taught generations of young girls and women that parading around in public half naked is "Empowering".

When all it does is make young girls and women look cheap and nasty.

Jhm88 · Today 01:50

Apparently, it's liberating to have your bits out in public. It's even liberating for teens and tweens to dress this way and have grown men gawping at them, or even taking secret pictures. 🙄

TheMrsCampbellBlack · Today 02:28

We used to call them Daisy Dukes and I wore them out clubbing with those awful white mens bonds singlets tied up under my boobs and boots. I had a banging body then lol. Now at 54 I can't get more than a calf in them. I can't say I would have worn them in the day but times they are a'changin.

I am 58. If I had a bum that looked good hanging out of teeny tiny shorts I would do it. Sadly if I did people would think I had a growth on the back of my knees.

If they have it let them flaunt it. Why, as women, do we feel it is okay to criticise other women!

Why is it not ok to for women to criticise women? Is this across all aspects of life or purely confined to those areas you deem inappropriate?

OtterlyAstounding · Today 05:35

I don't want to see the arse cheeks of men and teenage boys hanging out of teeny tiny shorts while they strut about the high street, or their bulges in skin tight leggings, and my bar is set no differently for women.

Obviously though, it's women and girls catering to the male gaze or generally putting their value in their sex appeal, not men and teenage boys who expose themselves like that.

Equally, I don't want to get an eyeful of either men's or women's nipples while out and about.

The bare minimum for civility should be entirely covering one's bottom, one's genitals (in such a way that people can't see the clear outline of said genitals), and covering one's breasts (male or female). It's really not a big ask.

Anarchy99 · Yesterday 23:09

Also what sort of weirdos even notice what others are wearing to that extent? But if you do and it offends you, look away.

Given the number of times it's been made clear on this thread that young teenage girls are the worst for exposing themselves like this, I always wonder if people who say 'just look away', enjoy looking at young teenage girls' bottoms.

I have to think that they don't really want to look at the half naked bottom of a young teenager, and yet I'm left wondering what point they think they're making by saying if someone is so 'offended' then they should 'look away'.

It implies that they aren't offended, and don't look away...

(And I don't believe that they somehow just don't notice when someone of any age has half their bottom uncovered on the high street).

Lemonymint · Today 06:18

I just can't help wondering how anybody persuaded young women that it was empowering to expose their buttocks to public view. Why would anybody believe that? Anyway, I feel public buttock baring and display is something best left to other primates like baboons.

There’s a sign on my local supermarket door saying clothes must be worn no swimwear - apparently they have had issues this week, including a lady in just a “very skimpy” bikini hence the notice (I’ve been away through the hot spell)

Yes, and the swimwear they are referring to is 3 triangles and a shoe string!!!@

I saw a girl in Nando's wearing these, bum cheeks clearly visible. I've got knickers bigger than those shorts. She was only about 14/15. But thanks to mumsnet I see it's applauded that a young teenager walks around like that so men can gawp at her because she can wear what she wants and it's nobody's business 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think YABU to be this bothered by a child’s bum

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · Today 06:54

yes, these!! And no, the shorts from the 70ies don’t seem to have looked like that.

They showed a lot of leg but not 3/4 of the wearer‘s arse!!

Yesterday in town a girl aged about 16 was walking towards me with her boyfriend. She was wearing a pair of those “arse cheeks hanging out shorts” but had the zip and button undone so I could see the top of her pants.

I looked at DC who was with me and we were no the aghast.

The only word for that was grim.

Thats been a style for about the last 15 years to have the zip and top button undone over turned and showing off sexy underwear to boot. Its foolish and unnecessary.

Please do elaborate on 'a certain type of woman'.

Rubyslipperswitch · Today 06:57

I think it looks tacky and must be incredibly uncomfortable/sweaty to wear in hot weather.

I also wonder why some women and girls feel the need to expose half of their backside.

It makes me sad that they think that's what they have to do to look 'attractive' and follow the herd in the name of 'fashion'.

It is like they are dressing like they are in a bad rap video and I can't help but think that there is nothing empowering about it and that it is just another case of pandering to the male gaze while thinking it is about body positivity.

That’s their choice. We all wear things we regret. I personally couldn’t care less.

I’m torn between people should wear what they want and sod the male gaze and we shouldn’t be showing off our bits for men to ogle!

Exactly.

Shes not putting on those because theyre comfy. Ive seen girls on tiktok putting on the booty shorts and turning round to show off before shaking their bums and hooking a leg up

Well, builder‘s crack…

I recently had to sit down on a seat (yes, had to. It was certainly not optional) after having just seen the previous occupant drag half his arse over it. It was quite grim!
