Bums hanging out of the bottom of teeny tiny shorts

Don’t know if this really AIBU or a question!
AIBU to think that shorts have become way too short ?
I have seen a LOT of girls in shorts today - with their bum cheeks hanging out the bottom ! Personally I wouldn’t let my daughter out like that. And I wouldn’t were them myself (I would give everyone nightmares !).
so what’s the consensus on bums hanging out of shorts ?

Nobody wants to see bottom biscuits.i would wonder why they were doing it especially very young teenagers.

Chatterlyssecret · 28/06/2026 23:33

Not a good look when their tampon string is visible.

Heatwave so need to have your sweaty arse out?

People do (shockingly) wear fewer clothes when it is hot.
Let's ban topless men first.

My2cents1975 · 28/06/2026 23:35

I agree with the pps pointing out that it is a public health issue. When these kids sit down in public goodness knows what they are picking up...fungi, parasites, bacteria, or viruses.

And with the rise in homelessness and cost of living issues where personal hygiene is an issue, I dread to think of the germs just waiting for the right bum to latch onto.

Good on the staff for disinfecting that stool for the next person!

NoSausage · 28/06/2026 23:37

Love the trend.

Its at least practical in the sense of shorter shorts being cooler than long shorts, whereas cleavage has no practical benefits.

So my opinion is m that if you don't have a gripe with cleavage, you cant have a gripe about cheeks. Noone is wearing them in the office, are they? Unlike cleavage 👀 which is outdated in my opinion.

I was one of those girls in the 2000s with jeans cut so low you could almost see pubes and a boob tube. I was only 13 so I didn't realise it was supposed to be sexy, I just thought I looked cool. But my mum said it was unbearable walking next to me as older men would be staring and ogling the whole time.

I feel a bit sad now thinking about how naive I was and how "male gaze" I looked.

I'm always amazed when women say "if I had the figure I'd wear that too". There's absolutely no way I'd want to go back to wearing tight, uncomfortable clothing and getting cat called by some sweaty old pervert.

This is exactly my point. Young girls don't realise that there are so many awful men out there (I know I didn't!), they think they're just following the latest fashion trend. I had grown men cat calling me when I was 14 and in school uniform never mind my bum showing. Also, if my sons had decided to wear what's basically a pair of small pants outside at that age I'd feel exactly the same. I actually think people would be more outraged, but it's as if because it's young women it's totally fine.

Not sure how you can police what age you are allowed to sell certain clothes, though. I also feel it's mostly crop tops for summer in shops for pre teens too which my daughter hates. But they're 'fashionable'. Until there aren't any perverts who like looking at teenage girls, I don't think this is a trend that should be encouraged for young teens.

Nah I’d rather not see a sweaty smelly arse crack thanks

What are these special germs and fungi that only jump up your tiny shorts amd through your knickers but don't transfer between people on public toilet seats?

durdledoris · 28/06/2026 23:41

Yes l have got knickers bigger than the shorts my teenager wears but l'm sure my mum didn't approve of what l used to wear at that age either

Also, ding ding ding for blaming the homeless AND cost of living crisis for fanny germs in one post.

Outstanding efforts. Truly. 🤣

Teenageboymum · 28/06/2026 23:42

Completely irrelevant but… my knickers cover more than that 🤣

The 1970s one show buttocks too.

People upthread said they wore even shorter in the 70s.

They really weren’t.

Strawberriesandcaviar · 28/06/2026 23:32

😂😂😂😂

Cheeky.

u3ername · 28/06/2026 23:47

I normally don’t care but I was shocked today by an obese young lady who had A LOT of uncovered bum right in front of my car window in an Aldi car park for some time (I was waiting for dh with dc in the car).

She was wearing something supposedly like a scort but it was ridiculously small and tight and I will indeed have nightmares as will probably my dc.

It was public indecency. But who to report to and what could they do?!

Human evolution has officially turned into regression.

TeaBiscuitsNaptime · 28/06/2026 23:48

I don't get it either but it makes me feel old tut tutting at it. Id imagine it would be a bit of pressure on young girls who don't have the body to pull it off. In warm weather or if you're doing something active then sure why not but every weekend... doing normal activities... I don't know, I don't quite get it. It certainly doesn't look that appropriate for young teens. My sons female friends have been dressing like that going to school discos from age 13 on

DallazMajor · 28/06/2026 23:48

I mean what if you sharted?

How often do you shart for this to be a legitimate concern 🤣

FlamingoFloss · 28/06/2026 23:51

It’s not a good look. I do think people should be able to wear what they like..but…really? Have some decorum

Quite frequently. I have Chron’s.

KeepPumping · 28/06/2026 23:55

ThatCyanCat · 28/06/2026 22:58

But I think that generally, the idea is more "look how edgy and daring and fashionable I am" rather than "I want to titillate you and turn you on".

Doesn"t work though if everyone else is doing it, you can"t be "daring" if everyone else in the street has their arse on display, at that point you just become a sheep with it"s arse hanging out like all the other sheep?

Illegally18 · 28/06/2026 23:56

Frenzi · 28/06/2026 21:00

I am 58. If I had a bum that looked good hanging out of teeny tiny shorts I would do it. Sadly if I did people would think I had a growth on the back of my knees.

If they have it let them flaunt it. Why, as women, do we feel it is okay to criticise other women!

Because the human race likes to observe and discuss how other humans live. And this is a S and B board on a forum aimed at women.

Danikm151 · 28/06/2026 23:57

I was walking down the road with my 6 year old when, in his very blunt way, he exclaimed “Mommy I think that girl’s shorts are broken. I can see her bum!”
She quickly attempted to cover up 😅

Good points, there must be horrible pressure if you don"t fit the body standards that so many are obsessed with now, as someone said earlier, it is like feminism never happened, but it is young girls who are turning back the clock not men, the slight twist is that they are doing it to assert sexual power and dominance over men (and to compete with other girls) the problem is though that if your whole self worth is based on how many people are checking out your arse you are going to have problems adjusting to areas of life where a personality is required?

Well then I'm sure you're very relieved to have the freedom of choice about what you can and cannot wear and are pleased everyone else has the same choice to do what suits them best.

Kim00000 · Yesterday 00:06

Yes people can wear what they want, doesnt make it nice for people to have to look at though! and just as people can wear what they want people can find it eww to have to look at! totally agree OP
