Bums hanging out of the bottom of teeny tiny shorts

Don’t know if this really AIBU or a question!
AIBU to think that shorts have become way too short ?
I have seen a LOT of girls in shorts today - with their bum cheeks hanging out the bottom ! Personally I wouldn’t let my daughter out like that. And I wouldn’t were them myself (I would give everyone nightmares !).
so what’s the consensus on bums hanging out of shorts ?

Agree it isn’t a good look, not particularly classy but then it usually isn’t the classiest women doing it… My teen DD’s hate it too so it isn’t a young person thing, just a certain type of female thing.

There's no evidence that women wearing revealing clothes causes paedophilia.

I think what she meant is creepy men looking at the kidw wearing them. Especially as kids as young as 11/12 do wear tight denim.shorts and some do show part of the buttocks.

Like a recent thread explains there is less respect for others in general now. I see people wearing clothes that show the outline of their boobs/bums. No there is nothing wrong with their bodies but some things are private and I think it's rude to impose it on someone else. But I've realised it's what's easiest to buy, trendiest or easiest to put on that leads people to buy those kinds of clothes. I don't like any clothes that even show the outline of my bum. So for example, I wouldn't wear leggings without a long top or dress. My bum isn't flat, so I wouldn't wear jogging pants either. I only wear skirts if it's warm and I'll have a long top over that too. I wear natural materials that won't cause me to sweat though.

Sounds good. Sounds like how I dress.

I swear this is a kink genre on mumsnet. Didn't we have this just last week, and the week before, and the one before?🙈

It isnt women. It is girls. Children and teenage girls.

we have the same at school. The skirts are so short we can see butt cheeks.

Yes sad that. I went to the high school the other day to drop off something my own girl had left at home. The amount of girls in tiny short skirts just barely covering the bum at the top of the thigh and then also many girls had their bums on show. It was really sad.

Before my son finished his gcses 2 years ago, a round robin email was sent out basically saying that, can all parents ensure their daughter's are wearing past the knee length skirts. That girls are struggling with sitting down and going upstairs as its showing their private areas.
Quite mortifying really.
Of course, it hasn't changed. They're still wearing them like that today.

I saw a creepy old man ogling a 14 year old girl wearing perfectly normal length not tight denim shorts on the weekend.

Certain type of female 😂

Is it school holidays already? These threads are getting boring and smack of the Christian Puritanical US propaganda. A lot of first time posters doing odd pearl clutching and talking about "fanny germs" doesn't sound like MN.

Creepy men ogle women wearing puffer jackets too. That is a them issue, not the women they ogle.

Dirty old men are the issue here. Not the faux "concern" for the women.

mydogisthebest · Today 07:09

Over the weekend I saw lots of women of all ages wearing very very small shorts. Some I am pretty sure were knickers.

I thought they look tacky and somewhat pathetic.

Yes I wore mini skirts but not so short that my bum was on show. Some women need to get some respect for themselves

It annoys me as it’s one extreme to rhe other .. girls/ women so desperate for male attention they want to attract it by wearing unattractive and obviously sexually provocative clothing because some 16 year old has seen it on SM . To women clad in head to toe cover ups because a religion has been interpreted this way by .. men ! Who mostly ignore the same religion requirements for themselves..
common denominator here ..

Playing devil's advocate here... What's wrong with wanting male attention?

Most species have mating behaviours, to signify that you're up for it. So long as no one ASSUMES you're up for it and everyone behaves respectfully, what is actually wrong with trying to attract a man if you want to have sex with one?

CoffeeAndCats3 · Today 07:15

Greedybilly · Yesterday 21:18

Fashion dictated by the male gaze innit? I mean - are men doing it?

Oh sure let's blame the men again. Typical mumsnet.

No-one is 'dictating' that women should wear these type of shorts. Girls/women are doing it because they like the attention they get from men. It's entirely their choice to let it all hang out.

DallazMajor · Today 07:19

NoSausage · Today 00:01

Well then I'm sure you're very relieved to have the freedom of choice about what you can and cannot wear and are pleased everyone else has the same choice to do what suits them best.

Quite.

Warmlight1 · Today 07:32

On balance aesthetically I prefer this to trousers which hang halfway down the leg- which will never be right albeit there is adequate bum coverage.

Yodellayhehoo · Today 07:32

youalright · Yesterday 22:09

Do you mean these. Then I agree these are a bit much to be wearing round aldi 🤣🤣

Thats something you would wear in front of your husband to show your gagging for a good doggy. 😄 🤣

Women often say they can wear what they like but still object to flabby men going shirtless, builders crack jeans etc etc.

So if he was slim or muscular then it would be ok.

I hear this argument being made a lot but it just doesn't match up with my experience at all. I used to get cat called all the time as a young girl and it definitely correlated with what I was wearing. I remember wearing my pube-skimming low rise jeans back in the day and getting hollered at by men in cars 3 times in a ten minute walk. It was only then that I realised they might be a bit revealing.

I got cat called last year for the first time in about 10 years (you can imagine my shock). Got home and realised my top had gone see through in the wash.

Of course women should be able to wear what they want but we're being dishonest to young girls if we tell them it makes no difference.

What ‘certain type of female’ is that then?

SatsumaDog · Today 08:35

Not my cup of tea, but it seems to be the fashion. These things tend to go in cycles.

Well, builder‘s crack…

I recently had to sit down on a seat (yes, had to. It was certainly not optional) after having just seen the previous occupant drag half his arse over it. It was quite grim!

Hah, yes, that's pretty unwelcome as well! Luckily, no one is trying to argue that's an empowering choice, and people all seem to understand that no one wants to see it!

It matches my experience though. I've been harassed and yelled at wearing long skirts with long sleeves, full business trouser suits and all kinds of conservative and even ugly stuff. There was an uptick if I was wearing something sexy (although I was also much younger then) but I absolutely got harassed, a lot, when nobody could possibly argue that it was about my clothes. Actually, the only times I ever got groped were when I was wearing trousers and a fitted top.

wishingonastar101 · Today 08:46

I saw a girl in big knickers in Tesco. And there were teenagers in bodysuits in the shopping mall. It's too much.

Myblueclematis · Today 09:00

On Saturday afternoon driving back home from town, a young woman was walking along the road with her very short jeans type shorts that had the button undone and the zip halfway down so you could quite clearly see the top of her pants.

Both me and friend in the car noticed as we drove by, it was very hard not to.

I really don't understand why you would go out like that no matter how old you are, classy it definitely isn't, vulgar it certainly is.

BeanQuisine · Today 09:38

It is an unsavoury sight, I agree.

Bringflowersofthefairest · Today 09:40

I agree people should wear what they want but within reason.
When I see these young girls walking around with their cheeks hanging out and then the men, young men, old men looking at them knowing exactly what’s going through their minds it makes me feel quite sick. Doesn’t take much imagination.
No way would I want my daughter being thought about like that.
