Bums hanging out of the bottom of teeny tiny shorts

Don’t know if this really AIBU or a question!
AIBU to think that shorts have become way too short ?
I have seen a LOT of girls in shorts today - with their bum cheeks hanging out the bottom ! Personally I wouldn’t let my daughter out like that. And I wouldn’t were them myself (I would give everyone nightmares !).
so what’s the consensus on bums hanging out of shorts ?

But I think that generally, the idea is more "look how edgy and daring and fashionable I am" rather than "I want to titillate you and turn you on".

Why would you conclude that when humans are sexual creatures that have instincts to procreate. Nearly everything we do has something to do with evolutinary needs to have sex.

You can think you're being edgy and daring but you're fooling yourself if you dont acknowledge that part of that edge and dare is that 'I hope someone will see this and fancy me'. Its usually subconcious which is why a parent should say 'you're not going out dressed like that'

Thats why for years and years people had those boundaries

Now apparently, anything goes.

Oh they do but probably not the sort of people you want looking at young women. My daughter was in Harrogate recently and said a woman was walking down the street in a thong bikini!!!

Edited

Dear lord, surely not in Harrogate!

Ah, I can believe it.

Anarchy99 · 28/06/2026 23:07

None of your business what others wear. I wouldn’t wear shorts anyway but I don’t care what others do.

MN loves to judge other women’s choices. And there will be comments about fanny flaps etc. I am genuinely amazed that people get to adulthood without realising people can dress how they like

This is true. On a recent holiday a lady in a tiny thong bikini sat on a wooden barstool. The staff disinfected it after she moved!

Did they know her?

I’m a firm believer in respecting their youth. They’re not trying to turn on weird men, they’re just exploring their choices, discovering their sexual identity, it’s not everyday that you get to be 18 to 22.
I don’t like to seeing young children in skimpy shorts, not even because their bottom makes me uncomfortable, there is just too many sick vile people out there that would use the view inappropriately.
They should be free to dress in the latest fashion without weird people assuming that they’re up for sex.

Anarchy99 · 28/06/2026 23:09

Also what sort of weirdos even notice what others are wearing to that extent? But if you do and it offends you, look away.

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 28/06/2026 23:09

Listen idk how many skinny summers I have left I’m getting out the batty riders

It’s good conversation

Yes, as utterly hideous as this fashion is, it's definitely no excuse for harassing anyone.

youalright · 28/06/2026 21:45

Is this what where talking about as I see nothing wrong with this or are you meaning something different

Ones I’ve seen are much less material than this. Kind of thong like until half way up the butt, so it just looks naked then more material above.

PyongyangKipperbang · 28/06/2026 22:57

WTF has that to do with anything?

Why did you even ask that?

If you're not attracted to women, why would you care so much?

Also, I didn't ask you, why are you so offended?

Harrogate you say? What street was this on exactly? 😝

Her vulva literally in your face??

Do you know what any of these words mean?

LOL

Bums have been hanging out of shorts since the late 1980s.

Daisy Dukes anyone?

Not like that.

VanessaFence · 28/06/2026 23:18

I was one of those girls in the 2000s with jeans cut so low you could almost see pubes and a boob tube. I was only 13 so I didn't realise it was supposed to be sexy, I just thought I looked cool. But my mum said it was unbearable walking next to me as older men would be staring and ogling the whole time.

I feel a bit sad now thinking about how naive I was and how "male gaze" I looked.

I'm always amazed when women say "if I had the figure I'd wear that too". There's absolutely no way I'd want to go back to wearing tight, uncomfortable clothing and getting cat called by some sweaty old pervert.

Wipeywipey · 28/06/2026 23:18

Loving all the comments suggesting women wear these for men only - erm, there has been a heatwave going on, it is summer... But no, can't be the only reason, right? The lesbians are clearly not really gay either.

Illegally18 · 28/06/2026 23:19

PintofFizz · 28/06/2026 21:58

I remember the 1970s.

These were 1970s hotpants. VERY different.

Exactly. They were very different. Shorts can be very attractive even short shorts, but bum cheeks hanging out.... The ugliness.

PinkPonyCIub · 28/06/2026 23:20

No different to wearing bikini bottoms

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 28/06/2026 23:22

GrillaMilla · 28/06/2026 21:19

I'm glad someone has mentioned this.
I cringe seeing women and young girls showing the shape of the most intimate part of their body in public, why would you want to do that??

What's the male equivalent of this, oh there isn't one. Funny that.

Surely very tight jeans or shorts where the outline of the genitalia is clearly defined?!

I grew up in 1970s/80s-my the jeans were so tight you could almost see if they were circumcised,

KeepPumping · 28/06/2026 23:23

ThatCyanCat · 28/06/2026 22:23

Yes. I think a lot of people think we mean hotpants and Daisy Dukes, but we don't. We don't even mean hotpants that show an inch or two of cheek. Honestly, I defy anyone to see what we're talking about in a high street or cinema or train station nowhere near a beach and not have at least some internal reaction. And it's common enough that it's obviously an intentional fashion. I didn't care about scrunch bum leggings (they're ugly but so what) but no, it really is a new thing to have naked arses out in the street. And I really hope it fucks off quickly.

It is a cult, it is social media driven, it is all about attention like "likes" on a platform, there is very little individuality to it, it is like drones or worker bees just following a pattern, there is no celebration of the body here it is just about attention and for many people now lack of attention completely negates any feeling of worth or personality they have it seems?

Lot of budgie smugglers whenever we go to Italy and France, walking around shops with towels over their shoulders too.

There needs to be a massive crackdown on this sort of thing.
