AIBU to expect that parents keep their children’s pushchairs and prams clean?

Our local FB page had someone posting to see if there was a pram/pushchair cleaning service locally.

To my amazement there is!

£25 a single pram, £35 a double and £50 for a travel system.

AIBU to expect that parents would just keep on top of this?

It’s just another thing for parents to outsource.

Yes, I’m waiting with bated breath @Allonthesametrain

Oh an audience...

Completely aware this whole post is trajectory nonsense but to play along for those who actually believe and defend it's nothing other than pure laziness/boast oh I have someone to clean my pram...cringe!
Well to simply say it takes minimal effort to wipe down a pram when it gets a bit messy, just part of normal responsible parenting.

Back at ya, what's the problem you have with taking a few minutes now and again to ensure your pram is hygienic for your own DC?

It's quite ironic really, we (well not you) clean the
perambulator yet our DC lick shopping trolleys/anything.

BravasPatatas · 28/06/2026 19:33

I also pay to have my car cleaned and I could easily do that myself. And my windows. And my house. And my oven.

Well I do all of this myself, we are different.

BauhausOfEliott · 29/06/2026 00:55

Allonthesametrain · 28/06/2026 19:46

Of course but having your pram cleaned is another level 🙄 Though i jet wash my car myself so keeping a pram clean isn't difficult.

What’s being difficult got to do with it? Cleaning a house isn’t difficult either, but millions of people still pay someone else to do it, simply because there are a hundred and one more enjoyable ways to spend that time.

Why do people think spending time on mundane shit is some sort of virtue? It isn’t. Scrubbing a pram isn’t a morally superior to putting your feet up with a cup of tea and a book while someone else, who needs the money, does it for you.

Allonthesametrain · 29/06/2026 00:58

Honeyhonay · 28/06/2026 19:49

No one said it’s difficult. You’re being weird.

It's weird anyone would have a pram washed. I feel disappointed in myself for even interacting with such a facile and goady topic. It was late, I had a few drinks and couldn't believe this nonsense lol 😆

But paying someone else to clean a pram IS ensuring it’s clean for the kids.

What does it matter if it’s lazy? The end result is the same: the pram gets cleaned whether you do it yourself or pay someone else. There’s no inherent moral or practical superiority in cleaning your own pram / car / oven / bins / dog / whatever. If you enjoy doing them or have no choice, by all means crack on, but it doesn’t make you a better person than someone who pays for it.

No, what’s weird is that you care so much about it.

Ponderingwindow · 29/06/2026 01:33

Let’s be realistic. Is it really parents who are cleaning the prams the majority of the time or mothers?

When you criticize the outsourcing of tasks the fall predominantly on women, that criticism takes on a political meaning. You aren’t really criticizing lazy parents. You are criticizing mothers for not being super women.

You are telling mothers that they can’t outsource a task to help balance the many demands on their time.

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 29/06/2026 01:33

HelpMeGetThrough · 28/06/2026 13:50

You’ve got to be a lazy fucker to use a wheelie bin cleaning service. Quick blast with a jet washer sorts that out.

That is assuming you have access to a. Watersourse and jet washer.

Not everyone has much /any outside space.

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 29/06/2026 01:59

I'd pay for that service it were available.
Despite having a jetwasher... Go me !

It's such a bloody faff... And in these temperatures it's rank.. And I get soaked...

And I have a tiny amount of free time daily.... I actually want to get rid of all these jobs you could easily do... But I don't bloody want to... Cos all these 15 min jobs take up all my free. Time.

HoppingPavlova · 29/06/2026 02:04

Why would you care either way? How is it affecting you?

I wonder if you ever catch yourself banging out posts like this…. Dripping with judgement against people who do things differently to you @Allonthesametrain but all very harmless, and catch yourself and think….

“when did I become so bitter and judgemental”

Thankfully you are a tiny tiny minority on this thread but I bet even that fact passes you by.

BelleEpoque27 · 29/06/2026 06:55

Lazy fucker here. I don't want to clean the wheelie bin, it's gross. Also we have a weird set up and I'd have to move the car to get the bin close enough to the hose to wash it (don't own a jet washer), and I know I would never be arsed on a Thursday evening when I've just got home from work and it's hot/raining/dark.

Much easier to pay the price of a coffee for a local small business to sort it.

I would assume people are getting their prams cleaned for a new baby, or when they're selling them second hand, not as a monthly job - it's a great idea.

laurini · 29/06/2026 07:15

Why would i bother myself if someone else can do it. Life is hard enough so if money isnt an issue, then why not?

Sartre · 29/06/2026 07:23

Same reason I pay for a bin cleaner and occasionally a gardener I guess, people are busy and have better shit to do.

DecisiveAction · 29/06/2026 07:26

My ndn leaves her pushchair outside uncovered in all weathers and seasons. It must have mould on it i assume? Insects etc? Sometimes we get fox shit on kids stuff in garden eg slide so hopefully they don’t ever decide her pushchair is also a toilet ! She clearly isn’t bothered at all 🤮

BravasPatatas · 29/06/2026 08:34

Allonthesametrain · 29/06/2026 00:47

We are indeed. And neither of us is better than the other.

So no cleaners, no window cleaners, no car washes, no bin men (because you could go to the tip every week), no gardeners, no grocery deliveries (because you can just go to the supermarket yourself), no painter decorators (because you can do it yourself) etc.

Katemax82 · 29/06/2026 09:11

There should be (and probably is) a cleaning service for everything

What about disabled/ elderly folk? People who live in flats? People who haven't go a jet washer or outside tap.

@Ponderingwindow - you have said what I was thinking, 100 times more eloquently than I did!

Brillaint to think a pram cleaning buisness exists.
I hated pulling tge buts off ours to clean it in the toddler era...some of us hate cleaning as we age..
Love modern life.

“Another level”… of what?

Another level of absurd/lazy really...

Such a basic task, couple of minutes daily ro keep a pram clean for next day, rather than letting the grime build up to being outsourced in the need for a deep clean.

Best to apply a bit of common sense, effort, hygiene to get rid of germs and bacteria daily is surely much better?
