AIBU to expect that parents keep their children’s pushchairs and prams clean?

Our local FB page had someone posting to see if there was a pram/pushchair cleaning service locally.

To my amazement there is!

£25 a single pram, £35 a double and £50 for a travel system.

AIBU to expect that parents would just keep on top of this?

YABU to have any expectations about what other people do with their prams.

scalt · 28/06/2026 16:18

My parents probably never cleaned any pushchair of mine. Maybe that’s why my immune system is rock solid.

BravasPatatas · 28/06/2026 16:23

We used the same pram for all 3 kids, with a few years between each. We had it cleaned professionally before the birth of the 2 subsequent children because it had been stored in a garage, and we didn’t want a newborn going into a dusty pram. What’s the issue?

hellofrommyothername · 28/06/2026 13:47

I don’t think I’ve ever cleaned my pram other than the sheets inside it… oops

Me as well. It never got dirty. Just the wheels / frame, I’d give them a wipe down when muddy.

Happyjoe · 28/06/2026 16:26

No worse than car washing and that's totally acceptable. For the record, I always clean my own car.

Caffeinepleasenow · 28/06/2026 13:44

I would expect a professional clean to be much more thorough than would I would have time/products/equipment for at home.

Yes. My local one is great the buggy comes back good as new!

TISagoodday · 28/06/2026 16:33

Maybe a kids been sick in it and they have a flat so they can't hose it down in the garden to get it properly clean or be able to dry it properly in a damp house? Maybe their mums just died and it's the last straw to clean a pushchair but it needs to be done thoroughly so it can be stored in the loft and not go mouldy for the next kid.
Who cares?
We have no idea what goes on in peoples lives and why they might need to use such a service.

Fififlamingo · 28/06/2026 13:47

Unbelievable - a quick wipe down with a soapy cloth and job done. Have had three children and have never had to engage someone to valet the pushchair 😟

Yeah.

It’s wheelie bin cleaning services that really make me wonder. I don’t think I have ever felt the need to clean my wheelie bins. They don’t smell either.

Brunchatstephanies · 28/06/2026 16:37

Some buggies and prams are the price of a small car. A service like this could bring it up as new. Makes sense.

Are you comparing new with scrap

HideousKinky · 28/06/2026 16:40

I don't understand why you would care about the services other people choose to pay for?

BravasPatatas · 28/06/2026 16:41

It always baffles me that people are bothered by other people spending their own money on a service that they value. I couldn’t care less if other people want to pay to have their bins cleaned, for example. It doesn’t affect my life.

BauhausOfEliott · 28/06/2026 16:44

What a weird thing to be judgemental about. What difference does it make to you how other people clean their kids’ bloody prams?

I mow my own lawn but I don’t get my knickers in a twist because some people prefer to pay a gardener to do it.

LOL. Of course your bins never smell. I expect you also shit rainbows and piss Chanel No 5.

8misskitty8 · 28/06/2026 16:54

Lucky you if all you had to do was give the buggy a wipe to keep it clean.
A quick wipe doesnt get rid of vomit or explosive poo.
Dd2 had reflux and was always being sick usually an hour after a bottle so curdled milk everywhere. Despite hiring a carpet cleaner the carpet had to get replaced once she was on solids and had grown out of it. We also had to replace a buggy as it was wrecked.

You’ve got to be a lazy fucker to use a wheelie bin cleaning service. Quick blast with a jet washer sorts that out.

Counterpoint: you’ve got to be a tighter than a duck’s arsehole to waste precious time dragging a jet washer out of the shed and hooking it up and arsing about spraying water into bins when a lovely bloke can come round and do it for less than the price of my Sunday newspaper.

I own a jet washer but why the fuck would I want to use it for a job someone else will do ten times as quickly for £3 a go? Jeez. I’d prefer to spend the £3 and have some joy in my life.

The few things that go in the bin that might smell (eg bones) are wrapped up. Milk bottles, cans etc get a quick rinse. It’s not difficult or even time consuming.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 28/06/2026 17:12

Not everyone has a suitable outdoor space in which to scrub clean a pram (or a wheelie bin for that matter). If you don't have a garden with easy access to a tap then what are you going to do, scrub it down in the middle of the living room?

If you have the time, the ability, the equipment and the space to clean your own stuff, then you can do it yourself. If you lack any or all of these then you pay for someone else to do it, surely?

Dontlletmedownbruce · 28/06/2026 17:12

Sounds like a good use of money if you have it.

LightlyRoamingOcelots · 28/06/2026 17:13

No need to be judgemental @Nevergotdivorced . Parenting is hard work and if both parents are working full time too then surely it's important to spend as much time as possible together as a family outside of working hours, so why on earth not spend some money reducing the amount of time spent on chores if there's an outsourcing option. It's perfectly possible to make your own jam and bake your own bread and grow your own vegetables too, as well as cleaning your own car and your own windows, but various families choose to utilise professional services instead, this is no different.

I am a lazy fucker. Cannot be arsed to remember to get the jet washer put every 6 weeks on a Friday evening, attach it all, blast the wheelie bin, put everything away, go shower as blasted bits hit me in the face/neck/everywhere. Then cook tea/drink wine.

Instead...Darren drives around after the bin lorry every 6 weeks and does the remembering/blasting/cleaning/replaces bin in its home...for £3. Yep.

I'll be lazy.

Pushchair wise. I think I cleaned mine when I was going to sell it.

Waitingfordoggo · 28/06/2026 17:14

You can expect whatever you like but you’ll probably be disappointed. I think I occasionally wiped food off my kids’s pram/buggy, but I never gave it a proper clean until I came to sell it/pass it on; life’s too short.

luckylavender · 28/06/2026 17:14

Judgey.

Didimum · 28/06/2026 17:15

Bet your great fun in real life.

Yellowpapersun · 28/06/2026 19:07

My friend runs a successful business cleaning prams and pushchairs when her children are at school. She gets them immaculately clean and you should see the state of some of them when they arrive! Covered in sick and other smelly stuff! The service is in great demand, the waiting list is weeks long.
