AIBU to expect that parents keep their children’s pushchairs and prams clean?

Our local FB page had someone posting to see if there was a pram/pushchair cleaning service locally.

To my amazement there is!

£25 a single pram, £35 a double and £50 for a travel system.

AIBU to expect that parents would just keep on top of this?

Unless you live on a very crowded terrace in a very crowded city, where everyone’s bins are out the front, and washing your bin with a hose would just end up splashing passers by with bin juice & there’d be nowhere to slosh the dirty water away.

Everyone where I lived used a wheelie bin cleaning service - it was about £20 a month and they cleaned every time the binman came so nobody had stinky bins in the summer. They have a machine on the back of their lorry that picks your bin up and hoses it down upside down so nobody gets splashed.

To be fair, that sounds a pretty smart bit of kit.

Why do it yourself if you can afford for someone else to do it … keeps a local business going, sounds fine to me.

I want to get one of those companies in to clean my Oven, but too ashamed of the state of it.

I do have a cleaner and someone who does me ironing .. because I’m lazy

Same! My oven is shameful. I take ironing to the dry cleaners. Life’s too short to do stuff you hate. I did keep my prams sponged down though but I don’t think they had a cleaning service when my sons were small x

MagnesiumBathSalts · 28/06/2026 14:03

I would absolutely pay for this. It saves time and effort and I’d rather pay someone else to do it

NuffSaidSam · 28/06/2026 14:06

Parents should keep them serviceable of course, but no harm in using a company to do a deep clean now and again!

We used a similar service to clean a wooden highchair. Obviously we wipe it after use, but the company take it all apart, steam clean the wood and put it all back together, it was like new afterwards.

It's no different to people paying a car wash or having a cleaner or taking the dog to be groomed. I could cut my own hair, but guess what?!?! I pay someone else to do it! And I'm not even a millionaire!

NeighbourProblems3 · 28/06/2026 14:06

Yes, they should be in a reasonable state, I guess that’s why this service exists. Great idea really, especially if it was in storage between two children and needs a proper refresh. Out of interest OP, why do you find it strange to outsource pram-cleaning but not other cleaning/house jobs such as cleaning the oven/fridge/bathroom/windows, doing ironing?

somanychristmaslights · 28/06/2026 14:17

There’s so many services available to us that we could do ourselves and we just don’t. Eg car washes, cleaners, ironing services. If people want to pay for someone to clean the pushchair, that’s entirely up to them!
my sons pushchair was a weird material with little grooves and it was really hard to keep clean. Someone took it off me in the end, but that could have done with a professional clean with the right little brushes to get into those annoying grooves.

ThatMintMember · 28/06/2026 15:14

Sounds like a great service. I've got a pushchair that's been in the garage a few years, would love to get it deep cleaned before the next baby arrives! I don't even know which bits are washable. It's not filthy but would be nice to feel it's like new again.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 28/06/2026 15:21

I have a machine washable yoyo - it only goes in like once a year - I think I’ve only every washed the wheels once cus they had dog poo on them - but other than that I’m not cleaning it tbh - it’s been 5 years it’s on its second kid and it’s grand 🤷‍♀️

You’ve got to be a lazy fucker to use a wheelie bin cleaning service. Quick blast with a jet washer sorts that out.

My late dad used to pay someone to clean his wheelie bin-he was a physically disabled fucker….would that meet with your approval?

maudelovesharold · 28/06/2026 15:28

You shouldn’t be. I’ve done it more than once. They’ve seen it all before, and worse, and they want your business!

Don’t be. Yours can’t be worse than mine has been. Best money I’ve ever spent is oven cleaning.

Honeyhonay · 28/06/2026 15:30

What an odd post. Do you take issue with people paying for other services like washing their car, cleaning their home etc?

Urgentbiscuitrequired · 28/06/2026 15:31

I don't see the issue. Have you ever:

Gone to a car wash
Got clothes, carpets or upholstery professionally cleaned
Used a dog groomer
Used a gardener/window cleaner
Used domestic cleaner

Even if you haven't to the above, plenty of others do. How is this different?

BrownBookshelf · 28/06/2026 15:32

Bit bemused that anyone would have an expectation about whether someone wants to perform a mundane task or pay someone else to do it.

Also yes, Team Professional Oven Clean here! The firm I use are amazing. They take the panel thingy out.

TheTortiePuffinNeedsHerBreakfast · 28/06/2026 15:38

Lots of people are time poor, especially if both parents work and they have small children. Outsourcing a range of chores gives more family time.

Most people don't have a jet washer. Lots don't even have a hosepipe.

FWIW my bin is clean as it's bagged rubbish only and we don't eat meat so it never gets stinky.

Backedoffhackedoff · 28/06/2026 15:49

You “expect?” WTF? Why would any adult give a shit what you expect from them?

How long do you think a quick blast with a Jet wash takes?

I’d rather be a lazy fucker paying £3 aweek to have the bins cleaned than faff about with a jet washer.

The extra bonus is they bring the bin back from wherever the binmen leave it as well.

Well worth its money.

BillieWiper · 28/06/2026 15:53

Why does it bother you? If there was an advert for a service that you do not require then you just ignore it. Not be shocked that such a service exists or that anyone may or may not want to use it?

I’m disabled, not lazy and I don’t own a jet washer.

WhatAMarvelousTune · 28/06/2026 15:55

YABU to “expect” this sort of thing, yes. Do you also expect people to not hire cleaners, or really anyone who does anything the person could do themselves but just doesn’t want to?

I wouldn’t pay someone to clean a pushchair, but I don’t care if other people do.

No hope for me then. I.use:

Ovenclean
The window cleaner
Wheelie bin service
The jet wash man - who also does the gutters
Have a cleaner who irons
Have a gardener
Have a Pond man
Have the car valeted monthly
Have a man who puts up and decorates the christmas trees

I'd have had a pram professionally cleaned if I was passing it on.

BrownBookshelf · 28/06/2026 15:56

I suspect the poster who said a lot of people getting a deep clean will be 2nd hand purchasers was correct. It makes sense.

miserablecat · 28/06/2026 16:12

I was surprised that such a thing existed (it was advertised on a fb page years ago) mainly because I hadnt really thought about it.

There are lots of services that I didnt know existed until I moved to a more MC area (pushchair valeting, bin cleaning, dog poo clearing from garden, present wrapping, sewing cub badges, name labels etc) They wouldnt exist if people didnt use them so they must have a decent client base.
I dont use them but it doesnt bother me that other people do. Cleaning the car seat after the kids had vomited in it was one of my least favourite tasks ever!
