AIBU to think neighbours should not be naked in their garden?

For context: Our house is on a new build estate and the houses are pretty close together. It’s fairly easy to see into neighbours gardens because the trees etc are not well established yet.

AIBU to say my neighbours shouldn’t be naked in their garden. They are often out in the garden totally naked taking photos of themselves. They have parties quite often and it’s not uncommon for them and friends to be out in the garden naked / using the hot tub etc.

Am I being a killjoy ? Seems excessive to me.

I don't think some of you realise just how overlooked new build gardens are - you're basically naked in public.

No. It does not.
Neither does standing at your window naked.

It can. Context is a consideration and the impact on people, particularly children, of your exposure when assessing if it is 'indecent' in law.
Standing at a window for a prolonged time naked in view of children will almost definitely meet the test. Walking across your window naked whilst changing highly unlikely to meet the test. Any sexual act that can be witnessed from a public place whilst using the public place as intended, will probably meet the test of being indecent. That would include walking down a road and seeing sex acts, but probably not if you had to climb a tree to witness it. It would be you in trouble then if caught.

All these people saying ‘don’t look’, ‘mind your own business’. Madness
Naked man in supermarket - just don’t look
Naked people washing their cars - mind your own business
Naked people in a restaurant - just don’t looooook!

Seriously.

Pinkflamingo10 · 26/06/2026 00:43

Ew! Unless you have a private garden then wear clothes

Foisting the sight of your naked body on someone, just because you can get away with it is quite aggressive and crosses boundaries. It's not the body that bothers, me, it's the lack of permission: "You have to look at my nakedness because I have decided to make you see".

If you can see your neighbours and their naked guests, when you're doing normal garden activities, you should tell them to put up fencing.

It's not the body that bothers, me, it's the lack of permission: "You have to look at my nakedness because I have decided to make you see".

Whoa. You're heading down the road of slut shaming - wanna make a similar statement about girls wearing stupidly short skirts, or showing "too much" cleavage?

Missey85 · 26/06/2026 00:49

Why are you looking at them? Keep your nose on your side people are free to do what they like in their own garden 🙂

SnowFrogJelly · 26/06/2026 00:50

As long as they’re not having sex in your bushes

Chuck your car keys in the bowl and join in.

😂😂😂

suburberphobe · 26/06/2026 00:57

Not on.

There's beaches in northern and southern Europe - well hidden - that you can strip off on. Sure there are long-grass fields you can do it too. I have a friend who does it in a gay cruising place. "They're all looking for sex, but not with me" LOL

I thought it was not allowed to parade around naked in public.... Well, I know it isn't!

They sound deranged. Are you in suburbia?!

I live in a city, never seen anyone strip off in this heat, or any other, the cops would pick them up. It's a psychological weirdo anyway.

I'd hate to have my children exposed to this.

I agree it can.

My point is that is not, by definition, without additional context, illegal - though that's what a few PP are asserting.

I get quite annoyed by people who seem to think they have an absolute right not to see or hear things they just don't like.

We seem to be moving further and further away from tolerating others.

Wtf, she's allowed to look out of her windows. Stop being so childish.

And the neighbours are also allowed to be naked in their own garden 🙂

I think you're the one who is equating mini-,skirts and cleavage with nakedness, not me.

It didn't enter my mind at all and my post certainly does not lend itself to oppression of the female body.

That's quite a misogynistic leap you've made there.

Any pampas grass out the front of the house?? 😉

Damn, you beat me to it. 😂

suki1964 · 26/06/2026 01:06

So glad we live rural, me and he use the hot tub as nature intended and the odd tractor drive might have had an eyeful

We dont parade around the garden naked, we hang our robes and clime in where and knobbly/wobbley bits are when hidden from general view. We are naked to world for less then a minute

ConstantlyFuriosa · 26/06/2026 01:09

No. Naked. Jacuzziness!

You want to police people and their clothing.

Somehow you seem to think that the line you draw is the "correct line"

I'm showing you that it's a continuum, from total body covering, to full nudity.

Somewhere on that line are other situations that you find acceptable yet others do not. If we adopted their "correct line" then women would be oppressed about their permitted clothing.

Dont know why you think a warning about a slippery slope is somehow misogynistic - or is it just a slur in place of thinking about the issue?

This tickled me almost as much as the Friday Night Dinner references on the dead fox post last night.

I don't wear any clothes (except flip flops) in this hot weather but then I live alone and there is no one to see me. Walking around the house with no clothes on is really liberating in this weather. It gives me a guilty thrill. I do keep a kaftan handy in case I need to go to the door. Yesterday an unexpected parcel came with special delivery so the postie had to wait til put on my kaftan. Your neighbours would not bother me. I have known naturists before.

Dliplop · 26/06/2026 01:51

Since it isn’t me, it’s hilarious! I can see 4 neighbour’s yards from my bedroom window and regularly make accidental eye contact with one from my kitchen. It would be a very bad location for someone to have a naturalist lifestyle. We were proud of one of them having a personal trainer last year, and I assume they’ve seen me in my underwear getting a drink. It would be even more awkward if they were naked all the time. Totally unacceptable to have a naked outdoor party in this neighbourhood.

In my parents’ area where you can see into gardens from some angles but it isn’t in your face, it would be funny but appropriate. If I was 11 I’d peek and laugh

I kind of love your concession of wearing flip flops.
