AIBU to think neighbours should not be naked in their garden?

For context: Our house is on a new build estate and the houses are pretty close together. It’s fairly easy to see into neighbours gardens because the trees etc are not well established yet.

AIBU to say my neighbours shouldn’t be naked in their garden. They are often out in the garden totally naked taking photos of themselves. They have parties quite often and it’s not uncommon for them and friends to be out in the garden naked / using the hot tub etc.

Am I being a killjoy ? Seems excessive to me.

We all have a body. Just laugh it off. What does it really matter.

Yes you are being a killjoy and a prude

Or maybe - just maybe - a lot of us feel private parts should be just that, private?

I mean, would/do you do this in your garden if people could see in?

FudgeFudy · 26/06/2026 10:30

Fully paid up member of the cool kids crew here - this wouldn't bother me at all. The extent of my discombobulation would be doing a double-take and thinking 'Oh, Dave and Sandra are starkers again'. I know this because this does actually happen several times each summer. I've got kids too and so far they don't seem too damaged by it. I'm hoping they, like me, will grow up to be able to distinguish between a body, which is just a body (we've all got one), and FOUL DISGUSTING DEPRAVED SEX THINGS.

SusanChurchouse · 26/06/2026 10:39

I’m glad I live in Scotland where it’s virtually never warm enough to be naked outdoors. I wouldn’t even wear a bikini in my garden, though that’s a me issue. I like full coverage swimwear that you could wear in a chapel.

I do wonder about Scandinavian countries where nudity is much more normal in public bathing areas. Do people there grow up with a healthier view of bodies?

I wonder what Tom & Margo would have made of it?

(The Good Life)

They did nearly do a swap in one episode and the main driver was Margo from what I remember. If anyone was going to get them all naked it was going to be Margo.

Didimum · 26/06/2026 11:07

As long as they aren't doing anything explicit then I think it's fine, and I don't think anyone has to make a song and dance about children seeing nude bodies either. They are bodies – everyone has one.

Yes I do, the naked body is not a bad thing, it is uneccesarily sexualised and shamed. We are born naked.

I think this is the root of my internal conflict on this, but you've made me feel better about erring on the "live and let live" side @FudgeFudy

@Pinkchickenwinemy dc do not avoid windows either

I wouldn’t think they would, but
most pre and teenagers are staring at screens, not next doors topiary!

As much as I'd hate to see this site in my neighbours garden, there's nothing you can do really. So sorry though! Could be ways to encourage them to go inside...water fight, parties, smokey bbq's, rave music?

I mean. I do. I’m overlooked. I sunbathe, go out naked sometimes. Sometimes DH and I even have naughty time out there…😲😳😉

You sound like selfish exhibitionists...

Most people don't want their neighbours to see them naked or having sex with their partner.

And frankly I don't want to see my neighbours' private parts or them having sex in full view.

No one is talking about sexualisation or shame. But I’d love to know how you think children are meant to be taught that there’re some parts of your body you don’t show to people, if grown adults around them are… well, showing them to people. 🤔

I’m really hoping that pp was joking, but if not I agree with every word of this.

I giggle, as at the first spot of sunshine my dad used to cut the grass then sunbathe starkers (when we had all moved out!). He only did it as the rear of the house is completely shielded by trees, and the front is open south facing with neighbour fields away.

Now we took over the house, I admit that it is quite nice to sit having breakfast in just a dressing gown with a breeze on a warn day.

But in general...I grew up in a very unprudish household - you could walk from the bathroom to your room naked, when we lived abroad most people would be naked sunbathing on breaches. As a kid changing rooms at pools rarely had cubicles and were mostly open plan. Naked doesn't bother me, though I am a person interested in bodies (with absolutely no tingly feelings associated) so I would probably stare enough to make them feel awkward.

My son is 11. He thought it was most amusing.

Im not a Peeping Tom. I’m allowed to look out of a window in my own home and not be confronted by my neighbours cock surely ?? 😆

I’m late 50s and I would also find it very amusing. I wish my neighbours did that. It’s boring here.

FOUL DISGUSTING DEPRAVED SEX THINGS

Best phrase on this thread. 😂

Being naked in public isn’t and has never been illegal.

Yes I see that you are correct, it is where I live (Commonwealth) so assumed we inherited that law from the UK. It’s in the criminal code here and quite handy when you have a nudist living next door. We’re clearly very prudish over here!

babypickles · 26/06/2026 16:42

There is a party planned for this evening.

I know this because one of the other neighbours has become friends with the guys on Facebook.

Obviously I’ll be on some covert mission to ensure I have an ideal view point. Might even get myself some snacks and beverages whilst peering through the window like some weird pervert. Could ask a few people round. Make an evening of it.

They have a garden bar called “The Dirty Dick”.

Should be a fun evening !

😆😆😆😆

If your son is unable to survive seeing a naked body his life is going to be odd indeed. By the way it is probably past your bedtime.

axolotlfloof · 26/06/2026 16:47

It sounds dreadful OP. I think I would move.
They are weirdos and I wouldn't want them exposing themselves to my child, but it's going to be hard to stop them.
