AIBU to question Snag Tights using very plus-size models?

DallazMajor · 24/06/2026 17:32

Snag Tights have women who are morbidly obese modelling their products.

AIBU to think that this isn’t ok?

They have got striped "pride" tights

And?

Malasana · 25/06/2026 14:08

All body sizes and types need clothes. Everyone would like to see what something may look like on their particular body type. Everyone deserves to be represented.

Is that a problem?

It’s just out of date. Since QT+ hijacked pride it’s been discredited. It’s no longer a ‘ community’ when you’ve been hijacked by terrorists who threaten violence and upset community members with no concern at all.

I haven't seen any of that locally, so clearly it isn't universal. And I know too many trans people to think they're all the same. Bit like, well, people, really.

Pinkissmart · 25/06/2026 16:14

OP, what do you think will happen

Hankunamatata · 25/06/2026 16:14

So fat people should be hidden and not shown clothes that fit them?

People come in all shapes.

Snag has issues. Model size isnt one of them

It matters because PP said no one would complain if it was thinner models posing in a sexual manner, and I am wondering where I can see examples of this from a mainstream retailer.

I understand that it's Snag's choice to use morbidly obese models in sexual poses to market their products and I stated that I imagine people are getting off on this - it's really not just about 'showing what the products look like on larger bodies'.

What makes you think Snag are a mainstream retailer rather than a niche lingerie company though?

They have no bricks and mortar shops, they aren't advertising on TV etc.

I'd call them an alternative clothing retailer. And many alternative clothing companies use marketing very differently from the big boys of the high street.

I'm not a fan of the company, I abhor their attitude to many things, advertising period pants to men was another nail in the coffin as far as I'm concerned but I'll defend their option to use even the fattest women in society to advertise their wares if they wish.

Having been over 20 stone at my worst, seeing other large women made me feel more comfortable shopping with them because I could see they'd put effort into making things fit bodies like mine.

PinkyFlamingo · 24/06/2026 20:16

Well aren't you lucky not to need plus sized tights then. I'm in Tunisia just now and their chub rubs are a godsend under my dresses.

I buy quality, dear.

Heronwatcher · 25/06/2026 12:00

Oh get over yourself.

  • anyone can see the difference between showing that their tights fit fat people and glorifying it as a lifestyle;
  • everyone also knows that being overweight is a health risk. They will probably have been told this by doctors and other health providers repeatedly. A few pretty ladies wearing tights isn’t going to alter that;
  • I am much more concerned by people who are constantly being pushed forwards who have had Botox, various disfiguring surgeries, and clear mental health issues being used to flog shite products;
  • it is refreshing to see people who don’t conform to a near-anorexic body type being used to advertise products for once.

Plus praise be for tights that actually fit! Whatever you think of the advertising the tights are brilliant.

Rude. I’ll get over myself when you stop talking shit. It’s dangerous promote obesity end of. It’s like saying “everyone knows that drug use is dangerous so let’s start using crack heads to advertise some tights”.

The poses ... unsavoury.

Clearly, a website which wants men to leer at the 'models' - if you can call them that.

DallazMajor · 25/06/2026 17:18

KimTheresPeopleThatAreDying · 24/06/2026 19:26

So a larger woman shouldn’t be allowed to see what their products look like on a body like hers. Got it.

I don’t think it takes a vivid imagination to know how you would look in a pair of tights.

However do you cope when you have to see "very plus-size" women out and about in every day life? Gasp.

It doesn’t bother me in the slightest.

Isn’t a big part of their market ‘chub rub’? It makes perfect sense then, that they use fat models.

this is another thing that annoys me. Why do they have to be called “chub” rub shorts. I have always had leg chafing no matter what weight I was. Im a pear shape I have thick thighs.

You're not their target audience then. It's as simple as that.

Bellic · 24/06/2026 20:47

If they’re purely for obese people doesn’t it make sense that they use obese people in the advertising? If they’re not purely for obese people using overtly overweight people is usually just cheap virtue signalling and a big no from me.

I was trying to help my partner find some swimming trunks a month or so ago and came across an advert for a full range of sizes but the picture has a very overweight model. It’s was extremely unappealing and a straight no from me.

They arent purely for obese people.

I don't think that there is a mandate that means you have to call them that. You could call them anti chafe shorts or whatever you like really. The world is your oyster.

You know too many trans people? Are you in the drag business?

That this is your first assumptions says a great deal about you.

No, my DC are all some form of not straight. So we hang out with a range of people in that community frequently. Including trans people.

What I actually said, just to make sure you understood me and weren't wilfully distorting what I said, was that I know too many trans people to think that the stereotype of trans people is anything more than well - a stereotype. Along the same lines as 'Mexicans are all rapists', 'Muslims are all terrorists', 'Feminists are all lesbians'. Like all stereotypes, it's bullshit. I take people as I find them and don't make assumptions.

They arent purely for obese people.

Boo hoo.

It's a marketing strategy. If the product doesn't appeal to you, don't buy it.

You can buy M&S anti chafe knickers if you want to be prim about the name.

Or Underpops from Popsy if you wish to be twee about it.

So why does it bother you to see them advertising clothes that are in their size?? What for you is an acceptable size to be advertised?
