AIBU to question Snag Tights using very plus-size models?

Snag Tights have women who are morbidly obese modelling their products.

AIBU to think that this isn’t ok?

Obesity shouldn’t be celebrated. It’s a dangerous medical condition.

I didn’t realise snag was a plus size site but irrespective we shouldn’t encourage this kind of “body positivity” it’s wrong.

Being unhealthy isn’t a vibe. I’m not fat shaming I’m not skinny myself but some of their models are clearly on a shortcut to a hospital bed.

I think they’re just showing that they make tights that fit big people. Big people still need tights.

Yes obviously they are doing that. But it’s still wrong when the models are hugely overweight. Same as showing an anorexic model would be wrong.

It shouldn’t be glorified especially when they are clearly over egging the poses etc.

In a heatwave thinking about tights isn’t top of my list of thoughts.

PurpleCoo · 24/06/2026 17:49

They cater to plus size, so of course it makes sense to have plus size models. That being said, it doesn't seem very balanced and most of the models are in the much larger sizes.

I love snag tights but haven't really seen models in a/b/c sizes. I am a size 10 hourglass with large boobs but a small waist and bravissimo don't really do clothes any more. I'd wondered if snag clothes might meet my needs as it can be a struggle to get swimming costumes or certain styles of clothes that are flattering and have room for larger breasts without flapping like a tent on the waist. Snag don't seem to show many models in 'regular' sizes though, only plus sizes. I think they should show both.

After decades of everywhere only having photos of people who are size 6 then now you understand how hard it is when your body type isn’t represented. Your body type is shown in 95% of adverts. It’s hard to feel too bad for you!

WarthogWoman · 24/06/2026 22:47

BringBackCatsEyes · 24/06/2026 20:58

Some of the poses are semi porn, or at least clearly made to look overtly sexy. I’m sure people are getting off on the morbidly obese woman bending over in her thong. You don’t need to be in that position to model the clothes.

No one complains when skinny women are shown provocatively posing in their underwear

I wasn't asking for, nor expecting anyone to feel bad for me. What an odd thing to say.

I am also baffled why you think my body type is in 95% of adverts? I disagree. There are hardly any places that cater towards smaller frames with large breasts. Most places seem to do smaller frames with small breasts or plus size people with large breasts. Most clothes are cut with these body types in mind. You order clothes and it's impossible to tell if your breasts will fit in them or not, or if they do the clothes are enormous everywhere else. I have struggled all my life to get clothes that fit properly and end up spending a fortune on specialist swimming costumes for example, to get ones that fit properly.

What fashion retailer has such images?

Does it really matter? This brand uses this style of photography of their products. That's their choice of marketing.

Oh no, I don’t mind men wearing tights at all! It’s the men pretending to be women that I have issues with - which I consider to be a ‘kink’!!

Plus the period pants Snag have used men to advertise.

It matters because PP said no one would complain if it was thinner models posing in a sexual manner, and I am wondering where I can see examples of this from a mainstream retailer.

I understand that it's Snag's choice to use morbidly obese models in sexual poses to market their products and I stated that I imagine people are getting off on this - it's really not just about 'showing what the products look like on larger bodies'.

Tlittle · 25/06/2026 11:32

Us fatties also wear tights. I myself was more cringed out by the photos sent in by customers of guys wearing snag tights.

LovingTelescopes · 25/06/2026 11:51

GreenFootstool · 24/06/2026 17:41

Snag have done this for years. Even fat women want to be able to buy clothes funnily. And the fat shaming of the women modelling their wares has been done to death.

I'm more concerned about their attitude towards promoting fetishes and the doubling down they did when they were called out for supporting strangulation during sex. Shitty business but not because of the weight of their models.

How did they support strangulation during sex?

It's not the type of thing that comes up in everyday life like, "I support Brexit" or I support the Green Party".

Did they just come out and say it. In what context? My mind is boggling!

LindorDoubleChoc · 25/06/2026 11:53

I boycott Snag because of their revolting advertising.

Oh get over yourself.

  • anyone can see the difference between showing that their tights fit fat people and glorifying it as a lifestyle;
  • everyone also knows that being overweight is a health risk. They will probably have been told this by doctors and other health providers repeatedly. A few pretty ladies wearing tights isn’t going to alter that;
  • I am much more concerned by people who are constantly being pushed forwards who have had Botox, various disfiguring surgeries, and clear mental health issues being used to flog shite products;
  • it is refreshing to see people who don’t conform to a near-anorexic body type being used to advertise products for once.

Plus praise be for tights that actually fit! Whatever you think of the advertising the tights are brilliant.

As mentioned upthread, Snag did a whole thing where they sold patches that said "choke me", and when a number of women (including victims of DV) said that this was inappropriate, Snag labelled them kink-shaming bullies.

There are several Mumsnet threads about it and Snag's absolutely awful response is still on their Instagram the last time I looked.

BettyJoanPerske · 25/06/2026 12:18

YABU, simply because when people say the same about ultra skinny models, everyone says that it isn't a problem.

How do you expect larger women to know what clothing will look like on them, if they are only ever modelled on size 10 women, @DallazMajor?

Perhaps you think fat women should be locked away from all public gaze u til they lose weight. Or maybe they don’t deserve to have clothes that fit them and make them feel comfortable and happy? That last one is something that a ‘friend’ once said to me - she did not understand that a happy confident person is more likely to be able to look after their health and weight than a sad, depressed one.

Clarkeytin · 25/06/2026 12:30

I think it must be funded by mounjaro and wegovy.. this whole ‘ let’s normalise being fat’ movement is closely followed by ‘ let’s normalise spending loads of money not being fat any more’.

load of tripe, isn’t it.

advertising is now brain dead. Have you seen all the lipstick ads showing lip colours for light skinned women, plastered onto very dark lips? It’s Al Jolson. Nobody is going to want to look like that. It doesn’t ’ promote Diversity’ to ridicule dark skin. Bizarre.

TrayBakesAreSweet · 25/06/2026 12:30

I don’t like their advertising strategy at all. But that’s more to do with the fetish element of it. I don’t care what size the models are. Showing an obese woman in tights that fit doesn’t automatically suggest that obesity is somehow being celebrated or glamorised. Obesity is a disease which anyone could tip into, given the right circumstances, and I think it’s important that women feel comfortable in their clothing no matter what size they are.

Thanks @FrenchBunionSoup Disgusting.

StoptheworldIneedtogetoff · 25/06/2026 12:36

Just looked at their website out of interest.

They also have disabled people modelling their products, is that ok with you OP @DallazMajor ?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/06/2026 12:40

@Clarkeytin - it isn’t ‘normalising’ obesity - it is acknowledging that obese people exist, and that they’d like to know what clothing will look like on their body type. Do you want us all shut away from the public gaze?

Gettingbysomehow · 25/06/2026 12:56

Im size 8 to 10 and the clothing items Ive bought from them supposedly my size didnt fit me at all. The pink jumper that I really fancied would have got three of me in it. I had to send it back. Same with the hoodie...massive.

GoneWithTHeWindJammers · 25/06/2026 13:02

They have got striped "pride" tights

Omg. I didn’t know this. Bloody hell, what a totally vile, irresponsible , toxic company.
Horrible.
