Do teachers feel nervous about these things too?

We are going into Dd’s class this afternoon to take a cake for her birthday to share. For some reason I feel nervous, is this normal? I feel like most people wouldn’t bother about things like this and would just enjoy the moment.
I feel worried about not having enough of everything, cutting the cake properly…

Do teachers feel as nervous about parents coming into the classroom? And would you be nervous?

That is correct but you are misunderstanding. I don't think anyone is annoyed that their school doesn't allow cake. I think it seems to irritate some posters that schools do allow and enjoy it just because it's not what they in particular are used to.

Have a day off 🤣 and maybe some cake.

Literally exactly what you said that some are annoyed that their school doesn’t allow this.

i quoted you.

odd

Hi OP, I know it was yesterday but just interested to know which country you are in. Made me laugh all us Brits getting het up about it and yet it is standard practice where you are.

You are just interpreting what I said differently. No harm done 😊

Why so annoyed that some schools allow birthday cake just because yours doesn't.

you couldn’t give one example. Because there is none.

and then you’ve said that I have misinterpreted this very explicit statement incorrectly.

If you do work, working with you must be tough!

My dc went to school in Australia and this was something that happened there. As it happens my dd is allergic to peanuts so the teacher had a little stash of haribo or whatever it was that dd had instead if the cake was homemade or one from a shop that had nuts in and to be honest, that was great for her as it taught her that she couldn’t just have any food like other people. That’s the reality when you have an allergy.

I am a primary school teacher and I found the informality at school really strange at first but I got used to it. If they forgot anything you could just walk in to the classroom if you wanted and hand it over.

I don’t imagine teachers would feel particularly nervous about a parent coming in.

I definitely don’t mind parents, or anyone else, coming in my classroom. Yr10 to yr13 secondary school teacher.

But surely you’d want parents with a birthday cake to at least drop you a line to ask if ok and when suits @Mere1 ? (I know the op did this)

and what happens if all the parents of year 11 or gcse year decided they’d like to do this… presumably you’d wouldn’t be keen on that? The disruption!

as for Why so annoyed that some schools allow birthday cake just because yours doesn't…. what the heck was that poster on about?!
