Do teachers feel nervous about these things too?

We are going into Dd’s class this afternoon to take a cake for her birthday to share. For some reason I feel nervous, is this normal? I feel like most people wouldn’t bother about things like this and would just enjoy the moment.
I feel worried about not having enough of everything, cutting the cake properly…

Do teachers feel as nervous about parents coming into the classroom? And would you be nervous?

Share the moment???

Jfc.

Why is that negative?! It was actually really nice to chat with the teacher, to meet all her friends, we don’t know all of them and to see how she is in her classroom environment and ‘Other life’ away from us

🙄 Perfectly clean kitchen here

She didn’t say you don’t have a clean kitchen. But not everyone does. We get given so many home backed goods at the end of the school year and they are all discretely discarded.

Our teachers eat them.

Human bodies are quite captain coping with cake that has been baked at over 180°

Yes any end of term gifts that are food we always check who they came from (some parents are bakers so theirs are always a good one which we will definitely eat!).

Glad it went well OP. I presume this is some private school and some custom that happens in some schools that are abroad as this definitely doesn't happen in the UK. Though we did have one parent turn up with a shop bought cake once and candles and did expect us to do the full on singing and cake cutting with their child (we declined the candles but did sing as we do for all children and did cut the cake for children to take home at the end of the day as we don't allow them to eat sweets/cakes til they ask the adult collecting them).

Hi it's always been common to send a cake in on birthdays here (Scotland). They all have a piece at break time. The parents doesn't normally go in though the birthday girl or boy takes it in. Party or not.

Nothing to be nervous about 😁

Edited

It's never been a thing in any Scottish schools I taught in (NE).
Must be different where you are.

Must be. Also a teacher. It's common here.

I would be elated if parents brought cake to my classroom (although, ideally, they would then leave!)

You think your kitchen is very clean

can you honestly not realise what I meant by you aren’t the most objective on that point??

Is it your daughter’s birthday today?

You agreed wholeheartedly with a poster telling others to lighten up fuckers

simply asking questions and making points about their schools etc

anyway, I hope your daughter is doing something nice tonight aside from watching her mum on this thread

enjoy

It ok, I know what it means, just taken aback by someone deliberately being bitchy for no reason..it’s odd

Dd is playing with her friend, not watching me on a thread

saying that someone who is saying that their kitchen is perfectly clean is not the most objective on that point is not bitching 🤷‍♀️

maybe in nursery, but not in school. I attended primary school in the 90s, secondary school 98-04, been a teacher for 15 years and not once have I seen this.

MyDuvetDay · 24/06/2026 18:24

This wouldn’t even be allowed at my DC’s school. Due to allergies and intolerances, the school itself provides birthday cupcakes upon request. Same exact cupcakes for every child. No parental participation
