AIBU to question what people mean by calling someone (Hannah Waddingham) a real woman?

A few stories about Hannah Waddingham over the last day or two. Cue a lot of real woman/all woman comments. From men and women. What do they mean? That she's not trans? That she's never had work done?

I mean, Susan Boyle, Mary Beard, Kathy Burke, Jo Brand are "all woman"/real women, as real as Hannah. But nobody would say that about them.

I’m a forriner so a bit brown.

Vikings are forriners in my book. It is how islands evolve ❤️ Populations are not static.

It means she’s not stick thin like loads of other actresses.

I agree. She looks athletic, healthy and bloody awesome

Do all womankind a favour and have a go at articulating yourself better.

Thanks, will try. Essentially, the thread is about HW’s appearance and I was simply offering my own opinion. My point was that if we’re defining femininity according to a single standard or ideal, she wouldn’t personally fit my definition. Simply an observation that ideas of femininity are subjective and vary from person to person. Ok?

Can't women be scary? Plenty of scary femininity. The scary feminine would include Athena, Kali, and the foundress of Wing Chun.

PuppyMonkey · 24/06/2026 12:16

She looks amazing and takes no shit. She’ll do for me.

The thread wasn't an invitation to tear down HW.

How does any of that equate to 'really scary'?

I get some MNetters seem to be afraid of their own shadows, but really?

Founderflower · 24/06/2026 12:24

It means they want to fuck her as they think being curvy and ‘bigger’ means you’re ‘up for it.’

also sometimes used to show how pc they are that they would shag a ‘big’ woman.

Misogyny in action.

Kim5678 · 24/06/2026 12:24

She looks athletic but has an hourglass figure, fairly big boobs and a flat stomach. I think that shape is thought of as traditionally female, (with a sort of 50s silhouette) even though the majority of women don’t have the bone structure to have an hourglass waist

Bbq1 · 24/06/2026 12:25

I think HW is objectively very attractive with a great figure. I do however live very much "in the North" and haven't seen one single person resembling Hannah, never mind multiple!

Lieben · 24/06/2026 12:26

I thought the ‘real woman’ was in reference to her saying she hasn’t had any tweakments.

MaryBeardsShoes · 24/06/2026 12:26

I think she’s gorgeous! I could genuinely look at her all day and not get bored. Hannah, if you’re on this forum; I can provide this service for a very reasonable hourly rate.

Wow. You really think she’s “scary”
looking?

Septa Unella is. Because HW is a very good actor

NormasArse · 24/06/2026 12:26

She asked my DH out for coffee a few years ago.Did his ego the world of good!!

ThatCyanCat · 24/06/2026 12:27

On the one hand, it's true that masculinity and femininity are constructs that change over time and plenty of male and female people don't fit the stereotypes of their sex.

On the other, I'd really love to know what idea of femininity doesn't include a woman as beautiful, hourglassy, glamorous and soprano-singing as Hannah Waddingham.

You think everyone who works for The Female Quotient wants to fuck Hannah Waddingham?

faithfultoGeorgeMichael · 24/06/2026 11:54

Describing her as 'scary' and 'masculine' OMFG 😂😂

You know butch masculine women exist, brassy bold women exist and this is fine and they are not 'scary'?! Violent people are scary you muppet. This is the height of internalised misogyny. Women must be vanishingly tiny, quiet and take up no space at all. Fuck that shit.

100% fuck that shit

What the hell is the female quotient when it’s at home? Op asked what the phrase ‘a real woman’ means.

downloadtoad · 24/06/2026 12:29

Big?! Did anyone see her figure on Benidorm ? Wow !

blythet · 24/06/2026 12:30

I had too Google her - wonder if they’re meaning she’s a proper womanly woman rather than a ‘girl’?

“Real Woman” as a compliment, only exists to insult other women. Take your pick, too thin, too tall, too whatever. A woman is a real woman. The end.

RamesesCollosus · 24/06/2026 12:31

I think this phrase is a throwback to a time when most women in the entertainment industry were very, very slim and then there was the odd one who didn’t quite fit the bill but was still very attractive. I think it’s redundant now because you see all shapes and sizes these days. It was always a horrible phrase imo.
I have to admit I also thought there was something vaguely unnatural and a bit odd looking about HW’s face when I first saw her on the Baileys ad. I think it’s just that she’s had a face lift/ Botox. She is very striking and looks amazing though and I like her energy.

littleburn · 24/06/2026 12:31

I really hate the term. All women are ‘real women’ whatever their body shape or whether they conform to some stereotype of femininity or not.
