To feel really worried about climate change in this heatwave

This heatwave has been caused by climate change but there seems to be hardly any discussion about this at all. It seems that people are focused so much on getting air con or massive paddling/ swimming pools without thinking how that might be actually contributing to the problem. People outside the school gates idling their engines to keep their air con turned on whilst creating more pollution.

I think I remember reading somewhere that we've released 6 million years' worth of CO2 in the past 150 years. Something needs to stop but consumption and car use seem to be increasing.

Am I the only one to be concerned about this and that we're just slipping into a future of more dangerous heatwaves?

The size of cars around here is ridiculous. I remember years ago when somebody bought one which looked something like a van to my eyes. They had 5 kids to ferry around. Now people are basically driving tanks to pick up a few bits.
Greed.

I watched a short film on planets the other day. It appears we aren’t happy messing up the earth and have moved on to space. The amount of space debris due to satellites and such floating about is staggering.

What do people expect to happen with the environment? Everything we do causes some pollution? Do you just want to exist like a wild animal?

Everybody could have enough. It's greed driving this.

People need to stop buying shedloads of tat and stop constantly updating their homes and gardens with even more industrially created crap

Mounds of Halloween shite and the consumer fest that is Christmas for starters.

As well as human excrement left up there.

I have nor will I ever celebrate Halloween by buying plastic shite. Nor do I buy Christmas crackers and assorted festive crap.
It makes me heave. Go to the tip early December as people prepare for the next influx of crap.

I’m worried about it, but there’s no point because anything our country does it a drop in the vast ocean. When the time comes, humans will either adapt or be taken care of permanently by Mother Nature.

This is such a stupid and insular argument.

It's because our country is not the only country that we need to do our bit. (We are responsible for a bigger proportion of global greenhouse gases than the proportion of our population compared to the world's.)

"When the time comes"?

When what time comes?

There's not some magical moment when "the time" becomes unbearable. Every degree warmer the world gets will see more climate-related suffering. Every nation should reduce their carbon emissions. Every step that does that is a positive for the whole world

I've been surprised how few insects there are around this year. Normally the conservatory is buzzing with bees and wasps but very few so far. I guess at least it means I won't get a garden full of wasps when the plums drop.

It will take you 10 hours to get there, and the same back.
Hardly a saving in traffic over going to a hotel anywhere in the UK.

When you get the hotel maybe have a crisp glass of English sparkling wine from Kent. The vineyards there are booming due to the increased temperatures and English sparkling wine is starting to be ranked amongst the best in the world.

Probably worth making sure the hotel is a bit of a way back from the beach though ...

We are the problem but not the solution, as we are ALL too selfish and don’t care ENOUGH!!!

Not mass suicide but Voluntary Human Extinction. Everyone stops having children and we die out naturally.

Can you imagine the incalculable human suffering that such a scenario would lead to?

Where do you think human excrement was deposited prior to toilets?

How do you think animals go to toilet?

It would prevent future generations from suffering. Is it ethical to keep having children whilst we continue to destroy the planet?

Due to the cold the excrement does not decompose, leading to contaminated water sources and severe sanitation issues.

Letting everyone on Earth die slow, horrible, wretched deaths in order to protect unborn generations is unhinged.

What do you actually think is going to happen? NO ONE wants to tackle climate change enough to make a difference. We will continue to destroy the planet. We will
probably run out of drinking water at this rate.

Lots of people want to tackle climate change enough to make a difference. More will join them as climate events become more severe. It's not inevitable that the tech bros and trillionaires are in charge forever.

There’s a difference between people wanting to tackle climate change and what is actually happening. Climate change is unequivocally getting worse driven by human activity.

Shanon1974 · 24/06/2026 21:32

I would just ask why air con is a problem but central heating isn't? I see them very similarly, try to use as little as possible for climate reasons but ultimately they serve a similar role & keep me going

Thalafor · 24/06/2026 21:38

The trillionare in question is actively commited to tackling climate change

Yes, in many ways, but also decarbonising the economy through micro-generation will accelerate as its costs lessen and oil and gas costs increase.

Why would this happen exactly? They're only unborn if no one brings them here-the minute you do they are just new suffering humans.

I've already seen a couple of slow wretched deaths and that was with 8 billion humans here to supposedly prevent it (though not sure how)
