To think Andy Burnham is smug and presumptuous. Just that really and I have no particular political preference, disillusioned with the lot!

Well, I certainly wouldn't. Spouses shouldn't be a target. I mean, look at the way people on here left Starmer's wife completely alone and never said a thing about her appearance.

I thought Starmer's wife often looked very stylish - I'm surprised she didn't get any compliments on here. Lord Alli paid for some of her clothes of course, which caused something of a fuss in the media.

Clavinova · 23/06/2026 11:10

Not on the way they look or dress, no.

So, you wouldn't compliment their look or dress either? Or comment on how much their clothes cost?

Trump's colour is make-up not his skin colour, so what was that comment about?

You previously referred to Trump's orange arse. Do you often comment on makeup? Sounds a bit shallow to me.

Have you been searching my posts 😂

Can you explaing the skin colour comment you made?

Clavinova · 23/06/2026 11:16

IAmBeaIDrinkTea · 23/06/2026 10:49

You really are obsessed with people's looks aren't you 😂

Not at all - I am only responding to posts. By all means change the conversation.

HRTQueen · 23/06/2026 11:22

I think AB is the right person for Labour to win the next election

I do not like how this has come about though and I felt that yesterday there should have been less celebration from the Labour party. It looked unprofessional , the PM has just resigned and they are all crowded together for a selfie ... it wasn't a good look and yes this is the sort of thing that shall irritate people

will it matter by the next election, no I doubt it but he has already got a reputation of going along with public opinion and flip flopping in his opinions so this is something that will have to be managed carefully by his pr team that is hopefully much better than the shambles of a pr team Starmer had

Actually I put 'Trump' and 'orange' into advanced search. And I didn't name you in my first post - I didn't know you were going to join the thread. Our posts crossed when I quoted.

Can you explain the skin colour comment you made?

No need, it was just a quip. I don't want to delve into your fetishes.

Trump arouses strong negative feeling in people. He has tremendous power and people feel he uses this in a way that has a detrimental effect on peoples lives. Sometimes people vent their negative feelings by making derogatory comments about his appearance. Which is a small retaliatory harm in the scheme of things. Especially as he will never know.
To criticise the appearance of a blameless woman for no other reason than she is the soft proxy target for your dislike of her husband is a greater harm, because it perpetuates societal attitudes to women's looks that we'd all be better off without.

To criticise the appearance of a blameless woman

Blameless? Who came up with the 'matching' black and white outfits?

I have most likely said a lot worse about Trump than his orange tan and I stand by that.

I know you didn't name me, you didn't need to.

But you did say in the next post that you were quoting me.

Anyway, I hope no women with ear piercings and different colour hair will cross your path today Wink

I really have no idea. When I use the word 'blame' I'm thinking of actions of a person that have important negative consequences on others. What Burnham and his wife wear have no relevance to anyone's lives.

Lemonsqueezer12 · 23/06/2026 12:43

If I was considered the savior of the Labour party, I'd probably be quite smug as well.

The number of sycophantic MPs on the radio talking about he is the only way who they could vote for, whilst not being able to answer a simple question on what he is planning to do is quite disturbing.

Just spotted this;

Andy Burnham cares way more about his clothes than he wants you to know.

https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/andy-burnham-fashion-style-prime-minister-b2999231.html

You seem a bit rattled by him, obsessionally so.

Worried he’ll be popular?

In what way does this posted seem rattled? I can't see any. Andy clearly is popular hopefully that popularity will get the welfare reforms through. He is far more likely to damage his popularity with his backbenchers delivering what is saying than the country as a whole. Starmer would have been far more successful if he hadn't bottled welfare when he had the change. Andy has said he will cut welfare to fund defence and everyone ones him.

Don't poke the (unusually grumpy) bear, we will be drowning in copy/paste whataboutery.

Greenleavesandsunshine · 23/06/2026 17:02

It would it be great if they could find a poc and put them in as leader, even if there’s no-one suitable. Just having a darker skin colour person in charge would placate a lot of people, regardless of their ability.

😂😂😂😂

poetryandwine · 23/06/2026 17:15

GilesTurnbull · 22/06/2026 12:30

He does look impermeable and not very bright. I’m holding out zero hope.

On what grounds? AB was awarded a 2:1 degree at Cambridge in the early 1990s, when statistics shoe that only 16% of students got a higher degree classification (a First).

How many people slagging AB off here were in the top 16% of an Oxbridge cohort? I rather suspect most of those people are willing to give the man a chance.

poetryandwine · 23/06/2026 17:25

Lyra25 · 22/06/2026 12:35

Why should he be? He’d be an unelected one and on what manifesto?

We have also had four consecutive unelected Tory PMs recently (May, Johnson, Truss, Sunak). Were you on MumsNet complaining about them?

Nonsense. Are you suffering from heatstroke? A bit confused today?

I am a Conservative voting woman who has given birth to two children. I do enjoy challenging you lefties that is true.

May and Johnson both went to the polls.

Burnham himself called for a general election on multiple of the changes of Tory PM. He is a complete hypocrite if he doesn't.

mellongoose · 23/06/2026 18:11

Dragonflyy · 23/06/2026 17:38

May and Johnson both went to the polls.

Two went to country. ALL of them set out their stall in public debates for a membership vote.

Sunak lost his and was subsequently crowned on the “I warned you about Truss” ticket. At least we heard from him prior to his coronation.

Burnham and Labour are so arrogant they think the public don’t deserve to hear from him before he is anointed.

True he was just really quiet waiting for his prediction to pan out and be asked back.
