Neighbour shouts for cat every night

feduppn · 20/06/2026 22:30

So my neighbour has multiple kittens/cats and every night she calls for them to come in.
Usually she does this for around 10 minutes at 9pm.

Tonight she has been yelling for a good half hour, my kids are asleep and she yells in the back garden close to the back bedroom windows.

I just don't think this is very considerate.

I have had to resist the urge to tell her to STFU.

AIBU

She is still out here yelling.
I can hear her voice all the way from her back garden to my living room at the front.

Get a life. Her cats might be the only good thing she has in her life. Turn your telly up and let her be, if she is calling more than usual maybe she’s really worried. Be a good neighbour and check she is alright. And 9 pm in summer is hardly late, she can shout as long as she wants. Poor woman. Bet ur kids are annoying to her and her poor cats. Hope they piss on ur grass.

9pm is hardly late. The world doesn’t revolve around your children being asleep!

No but they certainly take priority over some ridiculous woman and her cats.

StMarie4me · 22/06/2026 21:26

Where I live they party till all hours in this weather! One guy sings loudly. Another pays an accordion. Much shouting till at least 11pm.
It’s called life!

TY78910 · 22/06/2026 21:44

Am I your neighbour? 😂😂😂😂

I don’t ‘yell’ though. It’s more of a toned down name call. Soz to the neighbours but the alternative is he stays outside all night or brings rodents in.

RandomUsernameHere · 22/06/2026 22:09

YANBU it must be annoying. Also my cat would never come inside if I called him, he’d probably be more likely to stay outside!

If your kids are only just walking, I'd bet at some point they've been up screaming at some ungodly hour through the night as most babies/very young children do but your neighbour has just had to put up with that at 3am 😂 it's 9pm, it's not even classed as "anti social hours".

Because you asked and some of us think you are. If you choose to live in suburbia, you can’t expect silent evenings (actually you can’t in rural areas either). The woman is trying to take care of her cats and clearly one is ignoring her longer than usual tonight.

feduppn · 22/06/2026 22:53

My kids are in bed for 7pm.

I can hear her shouting at her kids and them shouting back at her though.

Not forgetting her kids would play on my front garden kicking a football at my windows and at my car.

Gosh, what a charmer you are. Why ask the question if you are going to respond like this to any poster who disagrees with you? 🤷‍♀️

Have you read her follow up posts? I don’t see that as an option.

familyicons · 22/06/2026 23:03

You should put on a cat voice and shout". I'm not coming back in ever again."

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/06/2026 23:04

I shout our cat in for bed - he’s always within calling distance and I don’t want him being out overnight. On Saturday night I was also shouting our neighbour’s cat because he’d messaged to say he was away and the cat had gone awol for her cat sitter. We’re a pretty cat-y street. (Neighbour’s cat returned about 8am on Sunday) The kids over the back are often out jumping on their trampoline and making a right racket very early in the morning when I would prefer a quiet lie-in, but I accept it’s just part of having neighbours.

cupfinalchaos · 22/06/2026 23:09

It’s not outrageous to call your cats in at 9 for goodness sake. Just speak to her nicely, say your kids are asleep and could she call a little quieter. End of!

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 22/06/2026 23:20

I would knock on her door and tell her she's waking the children

If you had bothered to read the rude reply from the poster which warranted the response you would see how rude they were to me, telling me they wish the cats piss on my grass . That's weird.

I am baffled by the idea that cats need to be in at night to avoid them getting run over by a car. Surely, they are more at risk during the day, when there are a lot more cars on the road?

This thread also reminded me of a Garfield cartoon, where one character stated all four of his cats were named "Cat". The explanation being that that they never come when they are called, so why bother naming them?

People r a pain the arse Move

TheyGrewUp · 23/06/2026 10:51

This reminds me of a neighbour 40 years ago, when I lived in a block of flats in zone 2 London. She complained that when I came in after 10pm, she heard me park my car and open my front door because her bedroom window was above my front door. I gently suggested it was normal "noose" and if it bothered her she had an equally sized bedroom at the back.

feduppn · 20/06/2026 22:47

@MyArtfulGreySloth - my thoughts exactly.

Personally I think she's bonkers, she leaves the kitchen window open all day and night so they can come and go.
Not sure why she feels the need to shout every night.

Why ask AIBU when you clearly don’t think you are???

BillieWiper · 23/06/2026 10:54

That is annoying. But the cats howling for hours to be let in when she's fast asleep might be worse.

It seems ridiculous to continually call a cat for ten minutes. You'd call it, wait then do so again a few mins later.

Maybe a few times over the course of an hour. Either they want to come in or they don't so calling solidly for ten minutes is pointless?

BettyBettyBoop · 23/06/2026 10:56

You just sound like you massively dislike your neighbour on all counts. Calling cats in at night is normal thing where I live, its nice to know they home safe and not locked in a garage or shed or been run over. She's probably extra worried at the moment as if one of her cats gets stuck somewhere it might not survive long in this heat.

I wasn't intending on getting involved in this thread, but tbh but I wonder if OP is actually real? What on earth is wrong with her neighbour leaving her kitchen window open so that her cats can come and go? Bizarre.

Is the main problem that you hate cats OP? Or is it just general humankind that you find challenging?
