FOOTBALL!!!!

twiddlingthumbs69 · 18/06/2026 16:30

Why does bloody football need to be on every channel. Why can’t they have a dedicated channel for it instead of messing around with the tv schedules for weeks on end!

Contrary to what the BBC etc would like you to believe, we don’t all love the ‘beautiful’ game, or even like it!

Grown men getting paid millions of pounds to run around after a little ball for 90 minutes and fans (agreed not all) that get all emotional/het up/drunk/aggressive and aren’t happy unless they’ve had a fight over it.

It’s pathetic!! AIBU

It's on 2 channels.
How many channels are there on freeview now?

AlbertaGeorgia · 18/06/2026 16:58

It’s once every four years, a very large number of people enjoy it, the TV schedule isn’t built around your likes and dislikes, and there are literally hundreds of other channels and streaming options. There’s also an off button on your remote.

sittingonabeach · 18/06/2026 16:59

My elderly DM who doesn’t have any streaming channels, so her choice is more limited, is still managing to watch other programmes if she doesn’t want to watch the football

GreenWheat · 18/06/2026 16:59

Oh yawn. Yes, YABVVVVVU to moan within days of the opening of a major global tournament that happens once every four years. There are people in their 40s who have never had the chance to watch Scotland take part, ditto some of the other smaller nations.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 18/06/2026 17:08

You could always watch Netflix

It's not even on two channels at the same time. The OP is being petulant.

LuckyHazelFox · 18/06/2026 18:02

There was always going to be this thread. I can't stand Wimbledon, so I avoid it and don't moan about it being on.

PistachioTiramisu · 18/06/2026 18:12

I agree with you OP, but were are not in the majority! I hate football so much - ridiculously overpaid men kicking a ball around for 90 minutes does nothing for me and no I don't care whether England win or lose.

Growlybear83 · 18/06/2026 18:15

I hate football with a passion but I don’t begrudge the coverage on main channels for a month once every four years! The same with Wimbledon - I can’t think of anything I would rather watch less than tennis, but it’s two weeks each year, and there are lots and lots of other channels to watch.

You agree with her entirely false comment about how many channels it's on? Are you also living in 1962?

We're not interested in watching the football in our house and have found it remarkably easy to avoid doing so.

YANBU.

I'm so glad my DH feels the same way. I would have no respect for him, otherwise.

No but i wish I was!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 18/06/2026 19:10

I am loving the footy. I am a woman, don’t drink and don’t have fights lol.

Roll on the Women's World Cup next year, hope all the home nations are there.

As for men's football and tv coverage, what I don't want to see is Wayne Rooney as a pundit, the man who thought it ok to visit a sex worker.

The England squad actually donate their international pay to charity. It’s only once every four years while Eastenders, Emmerdale and Corrie are on all year round.

MiddleAgedDread · 18/06/2026 19:16

I know it’s not on every channel, it’s just everywhere - every morning news show, local radio, social media feed from people/groups I don’t even follow,, even the fecking gym music this week - and I’m sick of hearing about it. No other sport gets as much air time and most other sportspeople are paid a hell of a lot less then footballers and deserve the same amount of recognition.

twiddlingthumbs69 I am so in your camp! It’s soooooo boring and all the talk and chat show predictions do my head in. I come home from work every afternoon to look at something semi intelligent only to be faced with pundits talking sh*t.

We don’t all like soaps, or Dramas, or shite where they’re marrying someone they’ve never met and become surprised when it goes tits up, or dating shows where the contestants only offer to society is how fast they can get their knickers off. So, being that I don’t like those things, I opt out of watching them by doing or watching something else!

AlexandraImogenSloppe · 18/06/2026 19:30

Whilst I’m not a massive football fan it’s not interrupted my life at all; and I like that the World Cup brings lots of countries and people together and gives many people lots of pleasure. How can you complain about that?

I'll probably watch and enjoy the final.

GreenWheat · 18/06/2026 19:33

Get ready OP, the next men's Euros are in the UK. Not only will it be all over the TV, we will be awash with actual fans! 😁
