Inconsequential but HIGHLY irritating things your DH does

I’m not talking ‘fails to do any housework’ or ‘won’t parent his own kids’ but minor irritations that make you want to scream but you can’t because its so petty. For me

Refuses to use the automatic windscreen wiper. Instead he waits until he has no visibility and then manually flips the wiper on once. In heavy rain he’s doing it every couple of seconds. Just put the bloody auto wipers on!!

Unloads the dishwasher but leaves select things stacked up ‘near’ the cupboard or drawer they live in rather than putting them away. Apparently they are left there to ‘thoroughly dry’.

Rage!!!

My DH has this obsessive habit of balling up his pairs of dirty socks before he puts them in the washing bin each night. When I ask him why, he says it's to help keep them in matching pairs so they don't get lost. I tell him it's pointless and actually quite annoying because need to stand there un-balling them all before I put them in the machine, so they get separated anyway. I still have to match them all up again once they are washed and dry. I've told him this hundreds of times over the years, but he just can't not do it. 😂

If you ball them up after you've washed them, he probably assumes that they stayed that way all through the wash.

No jury would convict (image uploading…).

OMG!!! 🤣
Why is it always a knife? A single knife plopped into cold greasy water that will make your cardigan sleeve all wet (shudder)

His time management drives me crazy. Gets up early, watches news, has coffee, leisurely breakfast, all good. Needs to leave 7.40 to drop the kids to school. In this situation, is going for a shower at 7.35 reasonable?? Is it???

Keeping receipts of all purchases and scattering them randomly all over the place. I'm not talking about anything expensive and under warranty, but supermarket, bakery, that kind of stuff. They all ask nowadays if you even want a receipt, why say yes and then throw it on the kitchen counter or on top of hallway shoe cabint for eternity or until I throw it away?

Oh god, the keeping you waiting thing. Every single fucking time. It doesn't matter how long I take to get my act together, he will always somehow find a way to keep me standing around waiting for him. He's completely comfortable with wasting my time . Expects me to just sit around like an unused appliance until he's ready.

I've left without him. He doesn't do it now 😁

@cookbookjunkie and @YourShyLion - Getting onto the Great Teatowel Debate.... I have tea towels which are washed frequently in a hot wash but which are very rarely used. I am a fan of leaving things to dry, except when something is needed urgently. Three reasons:
I do think it's more hygienic
We have a dishwasher so there isn't that much
Most importantly - for me - I had an XH who would use teatowels for anything and everything he wanted to... including wiping his (dirty) rugby boots with them and mopping up spills on the floor. There is no way I could use tea towels to dry up everything after that - even though it was more than 25 years ago.

My late husband used to lay the recliner flat then get up without putting it back upright. Plus all the other things others have mentioned.

Mine does this, there’s no way I am matching them all up again afterwards!

Urgh no! They've been proved to be extremely unhygienic, never ever dry dishes with a dish towel 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢

So how come you’re not the only person left alive after everyone else died of dishtowel-related disease?

That’s an easy fix. You stop washing his socks until he shows you some respect and stops making unnecessary work for you.

Quite!

Besides the human body is incredibly well equipped to deal with a plate that's been dried by a clean tea towel.

You have more germs in your mouth than in the plate 😁😁

Change ours regularly so I think that's maybe sufficient.

So do you dry yourself with paper towels after a shower or drip dry?

What does it matter if they've been used to mop up spills in floor of you're putting them through a hot wash anyway?

Doesn't your washing clean clean properly even on a hot wash? If not, why bother with the hot wash in the first place?

Eats over the sink - get a friggin plate. Leaves crumbs in aforementioned sink.
Asks me when we are leaving if I have got x y and z despite not lifting a finger to get any before departure.
Eats /drinks food brews too hot then makes a too hot noise.
Starts a big job - ie cleaning the garage if we have people over..
Sweeping always sweeping but sweeps in a pile so I quote 'can see all he has swept'
Leaves golf clubs drying in a line in the hall like soldiers.. I am clumsy. It's like Domino Rally.
Time for a patch 🤣

Be grateful he is sweeping!....Is also like the fact it's in a pile so I can see how much :) :)

He left the dirty water in the bowl after washing the big pans that don't go in the dishwasher...

...and hours later ceremoniously plopped a knife into the soup he'd left behind...

...even though the dishwasher is right there next to the sink.

Three crimes. One man.

Just put them in still balled up.

I had a bf once who asked me why his shirts came out of the wash (which I did) with the sleeves rolled up. I said "because you put them in the wash with the sleeves rolled up and I'm not your mother".

If we’ve planned to leave at say 3 pm for a journey that is often fraught with M25 hold ups, I can almost guarantee that it’ll actually be more like 3.15 before I can actually get him out of the house. Whether I’ve already done it or not, he has to do a lot of checking of doors, windows, gas etc. which for some unfathomable reason he can’t possibly start at ten to 3.

MIne used to stand there when we were already running late as usual (me with shoes on, keys in hand, opening the door) and go: so, do we have the passports? Have we taken .... What about...

He stopped now as I said any jury would consider the homicide totally justified.

But why bother with all that expensive laundry when they could just dry naturally anyway?

You leave them to air dry ? Flies and god only knows what other bacteria could land on them. So unhygenic

Offers to “do” the kitchen after dinner… when I’ve already done it all while cooking, like all in the dishwasher apart from what’s on the table, normally wiped the sides down too. Never offers when I’ve not done all the pre work. I just say no thanks I’ll finish it, making a point of the fact it’s almost nearly done! He’s a chancer!

Oooh that annoys the shit out of me! How he offers to 'help' me with something when I'm 95% of the way through it/when it's 95% done. Do these men do this so he can kid himself that he has 'helped?'

I got all the washing off the line yesterday (took 3 trips in and out of the house, and there was about 40 different items, including 5 small hand towels,) and I got them all in and was folding everything up and putting it away (while he was pissing about on his computer.) And just as I was down to about 7 items including the 5 hand towels, he stood up and said 'want a hand?' and went to grab one of the hand towels. I said 'NO, you carry on with what you're doing, I've virtually done it now!' with a Hmm look!

He sat back down and said 'oooh, I was only offering to help.' I said 'that would have been appreciated more 10 minutes ago when I was coming in and out and in and out with almost 40 items that were hanging on the line, not when I'm down to folding the last 6 or 7 and have nearly put it all away! He's like Confused

I mean FFS! Hmm

You need to wash them as they are and present them to him as they come out. And he can obviously pair his own socks so you don't need to match them for him, afterwards, even if they're still soggy and grubby in the middle of the ball. Natural consequences.

Yes, true but I like the washing done properly and it's me who does it (he does his fair share of other things, don't worry) and I simply can't bring myself to do it that way. Sometimes I pair them up again for him, sometimes he does it. But he has those socks which are all black but with different coloured toes and heels. Sometimes, when I am un-balling them I realise he's not paired them accurately and he's worn two different shades of green on the toe/heel paired erroneously together. Which means there is another oddly matched pair still lurking in his drawer. I KNOW logically that this doesn't matter. No-one sees that when his sock is in his boot. But the obsessive-compulsive perfectionist streak in me cannot stand it.😂

I'm the same. I get around this by just leaving balled up socks in the dirty washing basket. When he's down to his last clean pair, he's forced to go and unball them and wash them himself.

ImWearingPantaloons · Yesterday 12:10

oh god…. Loud sneezing (with at least 6 sneezes per ‘set’).

Leaving plastic tubs on the side to ‘air dry properly’ and never putting them back in the cupboard.

Always washing the food recycling bin / kitchen bin but never putting in a clean bag…

He does have many redeeming qualities however, just not those….

Mine has an unfailing ability to not only misunderstood what I said, but also reach the most bizarre take on it. I'm struggling to think of any example, now. I might say I spoke to our neighbour recently and instead of assuming I'd spoken to a one of our direct neighbours, he'd decide I meant someone who lived the other end of the town we lived in ten years ago. It's very, very annoying.

😂yes, I have similar issues. I sometimes stop mid conversation and shake my head in bewilderment and say 'just why on earth would you think I meant that? Why nwould your brain not go to the most obvious thing, the context of which we were discussing only half an hour ago? On what planet would you now think I mean X when we were just discussing Y?'

I have to replay in my head exactly what I said, to make sure it's not me being really poor at communicating something, rather than him being really poor at understanding it.
