Who here would honestly happily contribute to George’s education costs?

Reported to be £68000 a year at Eton.

Educating the royals is a waste of money. When was the last time any of them graduated with a proper degree and went on to have a professional career? For all their education they're remarkably dim and underachieving. I know William can fly a helicopter and went to university, but I'm talking about a long term career and a decent degree. They all just seem to piss about. How about putting some decent tax back into the system and doing a proper job that contributes something to society?

BlueLegume · 16/06/2026 20:30

I will be honest, I usually read the whole thread prior to commenting. Not in this case.

You are aware the parents chose the school most likely having visited several along with their son. It might also be worth considering that Carole and Michael Middleton can quite easily cover these school fees.

Prince George is a future King. He did not choose that destiny. He and his family seem to be decent people.

AverageWhiteShark · 16/06/2026 20:25

Exactly. most of them seem to go to Atlantic College, in Wales. It's more expensive than Eton. There was a point when there were 3 crown princesses there, if not more. And their younger siblings.

Yeah, while some European royals attend 'public' schools, that doesn't mean they're the 'local comp'. As someone said above, fee paying schools are rare in some European countries. But certain schools are still far more exclusive than others, and guess which ones royals will choose for their children?

LBFseBrom · 16/06/2026 20:33

His parents don't need our support.

Dorothyperky · 16/06/2026 20:33

@EnterQueene so would you be happy for your children to go in a carriage with the potential for people to shoot them in the name of tradition? Yes they don't pay bills like we do but find me a member of the Royal family who would! They get death threats daily including the kids. Grow up. This is family that didn't ask to be born into this shit world. It's called 'politics of Envy '.

TheYorkshirePudding · 16/06/2026 20:33

Where’s he meant to go? The local comp? Engage your brain

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/06/2026 20:35

I’m quite happy paying my own child’s school fees. So I won’t be chipping in.

My friend went to Eton and didn’t pass his A levels, but I’m sure the teaching is better now.

Winchester is about the same price, as is Marborough and most of the others.

I think that poster was talking about the quality of education, not the cost

Have you got a source with unbiased data please - something like a neutral news organisation?

Ok for me to post our gofundme link for DD’s St Paul’s girls place? If everyone on MN kicks in a tenner, we can probably afford the difference.

Does your family pull in a few million pounds via tourism? I suspect not, so it’s a no from me…

If we’re having a royal family - and I don’t massively care one way or the other - they need to be “royal”. On that basis, the future King of England is unlikely to go to the local comp.

George going to Eton has precisely zero impact on my life.

AmazingGreatAunt · 16/06/2026 20:41

My parents, my aunts and uncles, my siblings and I as well as our cousins were all educated at fee-paying schools. I do not see the issue. It is a choice, which many parents make over conspicuous consumption.
Surely, you send your children to the school you choose, which, hopefully, suits their personalities and talents?
At my school, and I left 50 years ago, it was very academic and parents were asked to withdraw their children, if they were not up to the academic rigour.
I must admit, and I will be flamed for this, but I always thought that state education was for children whose parents could not afford or were not interested in their children's education.
As my grandfather said, I cannot leave you 10k a year (this was a long time ago), but I can educate you, so that you can earn it.

@smallglassbottle what a contemptuous comment. If you are part of any ‘be kind’ group now is the time to address that mantra.

The royals do not choose to be born into the family. For the most part I would say in the current climate they do the job they have no option to do pretty respectfully. Especially Catherine the POW and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh who tolerated some awful media coverage. Can we just not accept they can never win in the eyes of some people.

HBLpsy · 16/06/2026 20:42

Sure, I’d be happy to contribute to the education of the future King, while also helping to keep 1,200 people employed.

All reports say it is coming from private funds, not tax payers, anyway. The children of diplomats, on the other hand, can have their school fees subsidised by tax payers.

HumberSquid · 16/06/2026 20:42

Im all for the Royal Famy being funded through voluntary public subscription but, whilst they're not, I have to admit I mind this less than most of the stuff they spend money on.

countrylife00 · 16/06/2026 20:43

I think William can afford that, so you need not worry.
Are you aware that children of serving armed forces personnel get boarding school paid for?
When I saw this on the news I wondered how long it would take for someone to complain on MN.

by that logic, you could ask would the taxpayers contribute to the general population's education ?

Not the OP but here you go: YouGov popularity poll April 2026 - a company not affiliated with the royal family.

I made a point of stating ‘not a bought and paid for poll’

Yougov is a private for profit company . Nothing to do with the government ( in case you thought it was official) .

These polls are influenced heavily by the wording of the question

I repeat - we have never been asked.

There is no proof whatsoever that the Windsors are ‘popular’
Quite the opposite. What decent person would profess support for that mob of Andrew protectors and Epstein cover ups ?

Yep. I’d agree if there wasn’t only about 50% of the UK population paying in more tax than the benefits they take. At least the Royal Family bring in a few million pounds in tourism.

HeyThereDelila · 16/06/2026 20:46

The royals have a lot of private wealth; it won’t be the tax payer directly footing the bill.

what do you mean ‘data’? There’s footage going back several years. You can see their website. You can google. This isn’t some sort of conspiracy. It’s a pressure group exercising their right to freedom of expression (when the police allow). The slogan is ‘not my King’. The existence of this group, their protests at royal events, the shouting of slogans and booing is not a matter of dispute.
