Is this wardrobe big enough for a couple?

Princesspeaches99 · 16/06/2026 09:23

Do you think this is sufficient space for a couple's clothes? So half each. Dh thinks it is and I should cut down ony clothes. I put winter clothes away in summer and vice versa. But it's still not enough space for me (or him as his clothes always end up on top of the shoe box)
We have a small chest of drawers each also. Any solutions? We have a fairly spacious room.https://www.argos.co.uk/product/7683389?&utm_custom6=PLA&deeplink=true&gclsrc=aw.ds&&cmpid=GS001&_$ja=tsid:59157|acid:844-913-7556|cid:20358693262|agid:|tid:|crid:|nw:x|rnd:17034927016028735996|dvc:m|adp:|mt:|loc:1007286&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=20358693262&utm_term=7683389&utm_content=shopping&utm_custom1=&utm_custom2=844-913-7556&GPDP=true&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=19672037693&gclid=CjwKCAjw6MPRBhBTEiwAd-7Mr_ZM9lrTLIX_gYVRSFQXtNHX70dcfJ84l1xTOnPf5B7ty3jMIvZOoxoCjCYQAvD_BwE

Maybe. We went for the Holsted large from Argos and that definitely is big enough for two of us- a smaller one we would struggle and we both declutter and rotate regularly. Mind you it was a trial to put together and its a good job we are in our forever home as its never moving 🙈 the Holsted has good top storage as well, and big enough for my husband to put one of his 3 drawer small units in base of his side as he doesn't have as many long items as me, eg dresses. Its proved to be a good long term investment.

backformoreofthesame · 16/06/2026 09:28

So you are taking more than half the space ?

many couples could manage if they had to

However we now have almost twice that space and life is easier/ don’t put things away seasonally and can easily find things. If the room is big enough get another when you can afford it

Loulou4022 · 16/06/2026 09:28

I always think “it'll work as long as you cut down on clothes” is the route to unhappiness! Even if you cut down on clothes now there will be other clothes you’ll want in the future!
If you have a spacious room could you have one of those wardrobes each?

coulditbeme2323 · 16/06/2026 09:30

I would say you need one each as a minimum, maybe more if you haven't got a chest of drawers etc.

Got around this by rotating- currently all my heavy winter items have been vacuum packed and are in my under bed drawer. Depends if you have additional storage- we are in a new build that has no real storage ie built in cupboards etc so this was the best solution for us, even with large wardrobe we have, stops me cramming winter, summer etc all in together and I can see whats what.

Bjorkdidit · 16/06/2026 09:31

You'd have to have a fairly streamlined wardrobe and lifestyle (even if I didn't have many of each type of clothes, I need a wide range for work because my job takes me everywhere from industrial sites to presenting at conferences, also need hiking clothes, general day to day clothes for shopping, errands, meals out etc and 'house' clothes because having velcro cats mean that their claws ruin everything they come into contact with) for that to be enough space.

What about Ikea Pax? You could get 2-3 metres and incorporate shelves, drawers and have a bit more space each. If you have the room, I would go with a larger wardrobe because you can always store out of season clothing, bedding, towels etc in there, rather than having to find space for it elsewhere.

5128gap · 16/06/2026 09:34

I have one 25% bigger just for myself. I haven't got many clothes, but I love being able to store assessories and personal belongings in there too. I struggled on for years compromising on space and it just meant that mess spread and things got spoiled crammed in. The washing basket became a second wardrobe as if everything was clean at once it didn't fit.
If space dictates, then there's nothing you can do, but if you have the choice, go big on storage as it's a game changer.

millymollymoomoo · 16/06/2026 09:36

No

BoarBrush · 16/06/2026 09:38

There's a lot of wasted space in it, that would be the issue for me.

Settlersa · 16/06/2026 09:38

I couldn’t share a wardrobe with DH. It would be a step too far

Pootles34 · 16/06/2026 09:43

We have similar, I hate it - clothes get bunched up so it feels pointless ironing them, I hate putting them away or looking for anything as they're all wedged in.

Why does he want that one if you've got a spacious room?

coulditbeme2323 · 16/06/2026 09:46

To be honest I would always get them made to fit.

When you buy off the shelf, so much space is wasted.

Tink3rbell30 · 16/06/2026 10:28

No I have 2 of those to myself.

likelysuspect · 16/06/2026 10:33

We've always had separate wardrobes and are replacing them now with much bigger ones. Each will be 2m wide and additional storage in chests

I dont put summer or winter clothes away, I wear the same clothes all year round with extra jumpers or jackets or whatever. I want things that I want and I wouldnt want to restrict myself

However in our case, his wardrobe has always been in the spare room, so you might not have that option. If you are limited to space you'll need to make some changes, but its not ideal

Bolloxtoitall · 16/06/2026 10:35

Nope! Bollox to that. I have an entire dressing room and I just about manage.

SO real!

Bolloxtoitall · 16/06/2026 10:37

I believe a shared wardrobe is a recipe for disaster. No. Just no.

Ineffable23 · 16/06/2026 10:47

I have one that size just for me and I would ideally like more space. If I had no other choice I could manage with a lot less space but I wouldn't be actively choosing to.

MidnightMeltdown · 16/06/2026 10:53

No. I would need one that size to myself.

LoserWinner · 16/06/2026 10:56

It depends what you want to do in it. You’d probably have room if you stayed still and had a chat, but if things get physical, it’s probably not big enough for an act of passion.

Kitchenbattle · 16/06/2026 10:58

Nope 👎

YourShyLion · 16/06/2026 10:58

It depends how many clothes you have. I have 9 items of clothing in total including my winter coat so it would be more than enough.

I have to ask, and I know I am going to wish I didn't.

But how is that possible?

CoCoJones26 · 16/06/2026 11:04

No!! You need a wardrobe each...easy solution if the room is large enough.

This is so true and I wish I had put my foot down. My dh is frustratingly annoying when it comes to buying things. He overthinks. Fitted wardrobes are definitely the way to go. You don't get dust all along the top either.
