Is this wardrobe big enough for a couple?

Princesspeaches99 · 16/06/2026 09:23

Do you think this is sufficient space for a couple's clothes? So half each. Dh thinks it is and I should cut down ony clothes. I put winter clothes away in summer and vice versa. But it's still not enough space for me (or him as his clothes always end up on top of the shoe box)
We have a small chest of drawers each also. Any solutions? We have a fairly spacious room.https://www.argos.co.uk/product/7683389?&utm_custom6=PLA&deeplink=true&gclsrc=aw.ds&&cmpid=GS001&_$ja=tsid:59157|acid:844-913-7556|cid:20358693262|agid:|tid:|crid:|nw:x|rnd:17034927016028735996|dvc:m|adp:|mt:|loc:1007286&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=20358693262&utm_term=7683389&utm_content=shopping&utm_custom1=&utm_custom2=844-913-7556&GPDP=true&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=19672037693&gclid=CjwKCAjw6MPRBhBTEiwAd-7Mr_ZM9lrTLIX_gYVRSFQXtNHX70dcfJ84l1xTOnPf5B7ty3jMIvZOoxoCjCYQAvD_BwE

It depends how many clothes you have. I have 9 items of clothing in total including my winter coat so it would be more than enough.

Gosh that's amazing. I would say I have at least 9 coats alone 🙈

I always think “it'll work as long as you cut down on clothes” is the route to unhappiness! Even if you cut down on clothes now there will be other clothes you’ll want in the future!
If you have a spacious room could you have one of those wardrobes each?

I completely agree, some of us have a passion for clothes! (shopaholics😅)

Thanks for all the ideas. I think I will get a few storage boxes for now until we can get fitted wardrobes.

Not for us.
Obviously enormous cost difference but we got a carpenter to build bespoke wardrobes as you can fit them to the space you have, build them right up to the celing, shoe racks in the bottom etc.

5foot5 · 16/06/2026 11:16

I think it's too small. Our shared wardrobe is too small really but it is unlikely it will be replaced. However, we have another wardrobe in a spare room which I use for putting away out of season clothes and things I wear less often. I really don't think I have too many clothes. DH probably thinks so but if you look in our shared wardrobe his clothes take more than half the space, easily.

Blueberries0761 · 16/06/2026 11:56

I think that's much too small for 2 people. I have more space than that for all my clothes, bags, scarves, etc. My home has a more spacious and relaxed feel now that my clothes and accessories have a proper place to be stored. Go bigger, if you can!

Exactly! DH suggested I cull some of my clothes and accessories! I gave him the look and we ‘discussed it’ and now we’re having new double wardrobes in the spare room as well! 😬

BrieAndChilli · 16/06/2026 12:34

I dont swop my summer/winter clothes over.

We have PAX wardrobes and I have a double railed one which has 2 rails - top rail has tops/shirts and the bottom has trousers on hangers and short skirts. There is also a shelf above for hoodies and scout uniform. Then I have a single width which has shelves for Tshirts, jumpers and jeans and then drawers for pants, socks, bras, tights and misc like belts etc. Then another single which has long dresses and skirts with 2 drawers for gym kit and pjs.
DH has the same space too. I am eyeing up some of his space!!!

I have to ask, and I know I am going to wish I didn't.

But how is that possible?

She needs to do an AMA.

1 Winter coat
1 Summer coat
1 Dress
1 Jeans/trousers/leggings
2 tops
1 Jumper/cardigan
1 bra
2 pairs pants

That's 9 alone with no socks, gym gear, swim/beach wear, nightwear, gardening/DIY clothes or sufficient underwear to not have to be washing things out nearly every day.

How? Why?

Although you'd be popular on the other thread where people insist you can travel for weeks on end with the smallest free bag airlines allow.

Alittlefrustrated · 16/06/2026 12:52

Not a chance - most women would need more space than that, for just their clothes.
Also seperate storage required for coats and jackets.

Good grief no. DH has two wardrobes, one about that size and another a bit smaller. I’ve got one that size plus a small one and about half of my Dads (young adult no longer living at home but without room for all her stuff).

And we’ve got drawers etc etc.
tbf we’re 65 so have accumulated a lot - things like dresses that I’ll wear once in a decade or two but which would be a real pain and expense if I had to buy one for a special occasion.

DH and I have a lot of clothes because we don’t like shopping! Grin

HortiGal · 16/06/2026 13:01

9 items of clothing? if that’s not due to finances is this the MN under owning clothes stealth boast.

It can't be true, it just can't!

HalzTangz · 16/06/2026 13:13

Myself and my partner have a triple wardrobe each, he also has a chest of draws, he has way more clothes than me

Neveranynamesleft · 16/06/2026 13:19

Definitely too small for 2 people. If you have the room you need 1 each at least ! I hate it when clothes that have been ironed get all squished up and creased in the wardrobe. Nobody should be telling anyone to get rid of clothes that they like and wear either.

Thebigonesgetaway · 16/06/2026 13:22

Fine if you don’t have many clothes. There is a huge space between that wardrobe and fitted, which cost several thousand pounds in average,

we would struggle with jist that between us.

Happyjoe · 16/06/2026 13:45

Nowhere near it in our house. Be at least one of those each! We don't have excessive clothes but we don't have anywhere to put away winter or summer clothes when not being worn. I'd rather have too much space and use if for linen than not enough.

dannyufcfan · 16/06/2026 13:46

Don't worry.

You'll both easily fit in that.

LettuceAndCarrots · 16/06/2026 13:50

Both can be true.

It would be too small for us. We effectively have a triple wardrobe each.

But I could definitely also cull my clothes. Probably by half if I tried. But I don't really want to.

PinkPonyAnonymous · 16/06/2026 13:54

Have you looked at IKEA Pax? Customisable to suit what you actually need without the price tag of fitted/bespoke. We got one as this is not our forever home and I am so happy with the fittings and storage options.

WheretheFishesareFrightening · 16/06/2026 13:55

Not in our house. We share:
1 double wardrobes
3 single wardrobe
2 three quarter wardrobe
2 chests of 3 drawers

Dontbeatwat · 16/06/2026 13:56

Not a chance.
Fitted wardrobes are the way to go but ikea pax are also very good, it's so much better to be able to customise it for you and what you have.

bellsbuss · 16/06/2026 13:59

@Tink3rbell30 me too plus 2 lots of drawers
