Is this wardrobe big enough for a couple?

Princesspeaches99 · 16/06/2026 09:23

Do you think this is sufficient space for a couple's clothes? So half each. Dh thinks it is and I should cut down ony clothes. I put winter clothes away in summer and vice versa. But it's still not enough space for me (or him as his clothes always end up on top of the shoe box)
We have a small chest of drawers each also. Any solutions? We have a fairly spacious room.https://www.argos.co.uk/product/7683389?&utm_custom6=PLA&deeplink=true&gclsrc=aw.ds&&cmpid=GS001&_$ja=tsid:59157|acid:844-913-7556|cid:20358693262|agid:|tid:|crid:|nw:x|rnd:17034927016028735996|dvc:m|adp:|mt:|loc:1007286&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=20358693262&utm_term=7683389&utm_content=shopping&utm_custom1=&utm_custom2=844-913-7556&GPDP=true&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=19672037693&gclid=CjwKCAjw6MPRBhBTEiwAd-7Mr_ZM9lrTLIX_gYVRSFQXtNHX70dcfJ84l1xTOnPf5B7ty3jMIvZOoxoCjCYQAvD_BwE

We'd need one of them each but even then it's not a good use of space.

bellsbuss · 16/06/2026 13:59

@Tink3rbell30 me too plus 2 lots of drawers

I've got drawers too and I've done a full declutter but I genuinely wear it all 😂

InterestedDad37 · 16/06/2026 14:45

That would fit half my clothes in. I have a lot of clothes.

JHound · 16/06/2026 14:46

Definitely not

50NotFat · 16/06/2026 14:51

I have a wardrobe about that size to myself. That’s just the one in the bedroom. I have another double wardrobe in the spare room. 😬

renovationqueen · 16/06/2026 15:02

Second vote for IKEA Pax - my husband built ours in and they look amazing, loads of tutorials online. A fraction of the cost of professional built-ins! We have a similar size to the one you linked each.

Also dying to know more about someone only owning 9 items of clothes, surely impossible.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 16/06/2026 15:07

dont for Argos it’s not good quality it’ll annoy you so much sliding that door especially if it’s full

Derecho · 16/06/2026 15:08

No, it's too small, but you could do an IKEA Pax a little bit wider that would work. I like the 75cm wide units, the drawers are a good size and pretty solid.

People vary massively in the amount of clothes they own though. We have 3x75cm pax which holds all our clothes plus space for towels, sleeping bags, spare pillows etc. But more than 50% of it is mine.

HeartySloth · 16/06/2026 15:31

We share a wardrobe a bit bigger than that, the same hanging space but we have a section of the drawers each too. It just about fits all our clothes with putting summer clothes away in winter and we have a few drawers each in a seperate chest. I wouldn't consider myself to have a lot of clothes.

We are moving house soon and we have more space so a bigger wardrobe is definitely on my list. Probably two separate ones as I am not a fan of huge wardrobes

Giantmarshmallowbum · 16/06/2026 15:46

My DH and I share a wardrobe and he just lets me use most of it. Simple

Thanks for all the ideas. I think I will get a few storage boxes for now until we can get fitted wardrobes.

Hear hear. You won't regret it.

DuchessofKent · 16/06/2026 17:09

It's not enough. You are better off having his and hers. If you are anything like me, you will also take half of his wadrobe and then some 🤣🤣🤣

We would probs need one of them each. IKEA have some good wardrobe solutions but are a faff to put together. I would get rails for now and see how you get on

Bluedenimdoglover · 16/06/2026 17:17

If you have room, get a bigger wardrobe. I have a 7', and 3 sets of drawers. Can't stand jamming clothes in.

DandelionClockSeeds · 16/06/2026 17:50

I dont gave nearly as many clothes as most (although significantly more than 9!).
Id need 2/3 of thst wardrobe. So if DH could fit in the remaining 1/3 it could work.

But if you can possibly go larger, I would.

Errolwasahero · 16/06/2026 17:51

Came here for the bants; but not too
many of you apparently! I was thinking, well me and dp would be ok, as long as we didn’t jump around too much; but a friend and her dh absolutely not…

dizzydizzydizzy · 16/06/2026 17:54

You can work it out. Calculate how many items you can put in the wardrobe and compare that with what you own.

Elsvieta · 16/06/2026 18:40

Maybe it's time to think outside the box a bit with clothes storage? Think about how you could keep things in spare room / hall / landing / office / utility room / whatever? (I have lots of clothes in a big chest of drawers in the living room). Arrange things so undergarments and other layers that are "underneath" go on in your bedroom and then it's not a hassle to go and put on your jumper in the hall or whatever.

likelysuspect · 16/06/2026 21:15

YourShyLion · 16/06/2026 10:58

It depends how many clothes you have. I have 9 items of clothing in total including my winter coat so it would be more than enough.

Oh come on!!

AppleKatie · 17/06/2026 07:51

9 items of clothing the mind boggles-

  1. coat
  2. jeans
  3. t shirt
  4. jumper
  5. dress for fancy occasion
  6. dress for work
  7. interview jacket
  8. jogging bottoms
  9. bra

I mean if you don’t want pajamas or pants it could work?

CheddarBiscuit · 17/06/2026 07:58

It's all about whether you want it to be big enough.

We've been decluttering and have two built in wardrobes this size but we're planning on sharing one and using the other for storage or making bigger for a dressing/desk area.

I've become super into minimalist owning and vinted and have finally accepted that I wear the same things for about a decade before changing style so I lost all my heels, dresses, leggings etc so I'd advise a clothing cull so you can see what you have and make space for things you like instead of keeping things out of guilt or "one day"

Sharptonguedwoman · 17/06/2026 08:04

Tink3rbell30 · 16/06/2026 10:28

No I have 2 of those to myself.

Agreed. If you add in winter coats, I think it's two of those per person. My Ex had 5 large leather jackets, for example (yes, barking). Those people who seasonally rotate, where do you seasonally rotate to? The stored clothes have to go somewhere and not everyone has under bed storage.

CloudyWithAChanceOfCustard · 17/06/2026 08:55

It wouldn’t work for me and I would be miserable!! I have a HUGE quadruple wardrobe, just for me…plus a smallish double (one of those that is only tall enough for shirts/blouses/jackets…not for dresses).

I like clothes, what can I say? 😂

(And yes, of course I could ‘cut down’…but why should I?) 🤷‍♀️

OP…your husband is deluded…tell him to fuck off with his demands and his ridiculously small wardrobe!

EgregiouslyOverdressed · 17/06/2026 09:01

No, and that wardrobe won't be especially good quality. Get IKEA PAX, the tallest you can fit in your room. They are the only flat-pack option worth considering if fitted / made-to-measure is not an option.

WarthogWoman · 17/06/2026 09:02

Neither of us have a huge amount of clothes and we have a wardrobe a little bigger than that and a big chest of drawers and it’s ok but we could do with a little more. I think you will struggle
