Is this wardrobe big enough for a couple?

Princesspeaches99 · 16/06/2026 09:23

Do you think this is sufficient space for a couple's clothes? So half each. Dh thinks it is and I should cut down ony clothes. I put winter clothes away in summer and vice versa. But it's still not enough space for me (or him as his clothes always end up on top of the shoe box)
We have a small chest of drawers each also. Any solutions? We have a fairly spacious room.https://www.argos.co.uk/product/7683389?&utm_custom6=PLA&deeplink=true&gclsrc=aw.ds&&cmpid=GS001&_$ja=tsid:59157|acid:844-913-7556|cid:20358693262|agid:|tid:|crid:|nw:x|rnd:17034927016028735996|dvc:m|adp:|mt:|loc:1007286&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=20358693262&utm_term=7683389&utm_content=shopping&utm_custom1=&utm_custom2=844-913-7556&GPDP=true&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=19672037693&gclid=CjwKCAjw6MPRBhBTEiwAd-7Mr_ZM9lrTLIX_gYVRSFQXtNHX70dcfJ84l1xTOnPf5B7ty3jMIvZOoxoCjCYQAvD_BwE

The space maybe but the sharing aspect absolutely not.

We have a double wardrobe each that we had made to fit but they are not fitted wardrobes and we share a huge chest of drawers, 2 drawers each. I’m waiting for DS to move out as I’m having the fitted wardrobe in his room when he leaves. I’m having the whole room as a dressing/ hobby room.

nam3c4ang3 · 17/06/2026 09:27

OP - YABU re that wardrobe - too small, i have at least two of those and still need more.

BUT - i really want the 9 clothing person to come back as i need to know HOW?!

Plantlady10 · 17/06/2026 09:34

Clearly in the minority, but i think that would be fine if you both also have seperate drawers each too! We share a standard 2 door wardrobe, and have a 4 drawer chest each too. Coats get hung by the front door, accessories (hats/scarfs ect) are in a cuboard downstairs

Purplecatshopaholic · 17/06/2026 09:40

Blimey, no way. I have a wardrobe that size just for me. And an entire separate dressing room with another one too. But I accept I have a lot of clothes.. Kallax units in my dressing room really helped me get organised.

DeltaVariant · 17/06/2026 09:41

Ikea pax me and DH have 1 metre floor to ceiling each, with drawers at the bottom customised to our actual clothing. We’re pretty minimalist and it still doesn’t feel generous with bags, shoes, etc in it.

That's fair. OP did say they have an extra chest of drawers too each, and I missed that. I guess it depends how small the small chests of drawers are.

I still think OP's DH is being unreasonable to only give her half though. Fair is not always the same as equal, and all that.

sammylady37 · 17/06/2026 09:57

That wouldn’t be enough for me at all. I have a large dressing room with 11 rails, some deep drawers, shallow drawers and shelving. My coats and bags are in a separate cloakroom. Some may consider it excessive, but a) I can afford it, b) I enjoy it c) I work hard for my money and d) I don’t owe anyone a penny.

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 17/06/2026 10:12

We each have 2 wardrobes, 1m each, so 4 m ; some of them are 2 rails, some have drawers. Coats & jackets are mostly kept separately in hall cupboards.

I'd be wary of fitted wardrobes, they are very expensive.

We had them installed, then recently moved to a home with none !
We bought Ikea, which are very much cheaper, & paid someone to assemble them.
Dust on the top ?!?! Neither of us are tall enough to see it.

DreamingOfSleepingPlease · 17/06/2026 12:53

Have a go at the IKEA Pax wardrobes - look online and try the build your own tool. DH and I have a 2.5 meter one. Each of us have our own 1m one, with half hanging space, half drawers underneath, and then a 0.5m column full of just shelves for sheets, towels, bulky things etc. 2.5m in total. It works really well!

When I read the thread title my initial thought was ' what, to hide in? '

I have no idea why.

youngwhippersnapper · 17/06/2026 21:09

I’ve got two triple wardrobes and a double for just myself, and even that takes some organising to make best use of space.

lazyarse123 · 17/06/2026 21:10

When we lived in a house we had a triple wardrobe each and dh had a chest of drawers. He has a thing for jackets and jumpers.
We now live in a park home and space is at a premium, we have a fitted wardrobe with 5 big plastic boxes for said jumpers and a set of drawers which is ok but we have a tiny 2nd bedroom aka the big cupboard which has plastic drawers for my nightwear, gloves and scarves, handbags and shoes. So tgat wardrobe is nowhere near big enough.

TheChosenTwo · 17/06/2026 21:15

I daresay dh and I could manage but if we had zero other storage space it would mean a massive downsizing of our current wardrobes.
He built us some proper built in ones - they’re 3 metres wide, the width of the room, half each. We also have a 1m wide chest of 5 drawers each and 2 large under the bed drawers. Any obvious ‘summer holiday only’ clothes live in a small case in the loft cupboards.
im very good at keeping on top of my clothes despite admittedly owning a lot but I wear everything and get rid of anything if i change my mind or know I’m not likely to get anymore wear out of it so it’s not like I’m sitting on years worth of clothes that don’t fit etc.

Also in the minority as it would do us fine too! We currently share one half the size of that and a large chest of drawers. Coats in a separate cupboard. Personally I think I’ve got way too many clothes as I don’t wear half of it but it sounds like I’ve got a fraction of most people here!

ReadingTime · 17/06/2026 22:44

I would rather have two smaller ones so you each get your own space. With yours slightly bigger if there’s space. It would be really annoying to share a wardrobe.

Well done

I have a triple wardrobe for my stuff and my OH has a double one and a set of drawers and it seems a good amount of space.
Both wardrobes are full but not bursting. That one is not big enough for 2 people unless you're a capsule wardrobe kind of couple.

Blankscreen · Yesterday 07:33

We have built in floor to ceiling wardrobes of about 1.5 times that width some with double hanging and it it definitely not enough.

You will never regret having 'too much' wardrobe space.

NagathaCrispy · Yesterday 11:50

No. We have a slightly larger one each and just about manage, although we don't rotate seasonally. They are in different rooms as well, which definitely helps!

IcedPurple · Yesterday 11:59

No way.

I have two wardrobes and two chests of drawers just to myself, and I don't think I have that many clothes. Also, I pack away out of season clothes so that needs additional storage. Granted, I do keep things other than clothes in my wardrobe and drawers, but unless you are 'capsule wardrobe' types, then that looks way too small for a couple.
